I agree it is disappointing. The Morgan State and Nicholls State games almost felt like losses with the way we played. So far the only solid performances really have been James Madison and UC Irvine. The only thing I will say is other than Kennesaw State, we have won the games we are supposed to win and lost the ones we are supposed to lose. Although, to be a better program we really need to win 1-2 we shouldn't win. Also, having Tejada out for the last six games and May in and out of the lineup has made it difficult to establish consistency. Especially since May (who I still think can be good) has not really played well when he has been available. It is good to see Lowery shooting at a decent clip at 46% (although, he could be above 50% with some better finishing) with all of the ballhandling he is doing, and Embeya shooting 53% from the field (obviously he mostly shoots close in and hopefully can get that up around 60% as he matures). Both could be a lot better, but I see growth from both players, despite some of the offensive limitations at this point. They are both very athletic players who make their presence felt on both ends when they are on the court. I just wish they could both at least find their way to 60-65% free throw shooting since they are in the mix quite a big. I also think Hicks, despite his offensive limitations, is our best ballhandler and is benefitting from more time on the floor with Tejada and May's absences. Hopefully, some of the extra time that these guys are getting now can help later if Tejada and May get healthy and round back into form. I know Tarke leads the team in steals, assists and is second in rebounds, but the fact that he only has four less FG attempts than Williamson and is shooting 29% is an issue for the offense. I love what he brings from an effort and toughness standpoint, but he is too inefficient to be so heavily relied upon offensively. Obviously, Tejada and May's absence have been a part of that, but he is also a high volume player no matter who is on the floor. It did feel like he reigned it in a little bit against UC Irvine, and it was nice to see five different players attempt 8 or more FG and no one take more than 12 shots in that game. That is probably the way offense should be. Two obvious things that are really making it tough for us offensively is how poor we are shooting from the free-throw line (64.5%) and from three-point land (29.9%). We have shot over 70% only once from the free throw line this year, and if you take away the St. Mary's, South Carolina and PSU-Wilkes Barre games we have only gone to the line two more times than our opponents (108 to 106). From three-point land if you take out the Wilkes-Barre game, we have only shot over 38% twice against JMU and Kent State. The other six games, we have shot 32.3% or worse. If you take out the Wilkes Barre game, we are shooting 43.2% (130-301) on 2-pt FG this season and our opponents are shooting 51.7% (138-267). Also from a tempo standpoint, we were the fifth-lowest possession team in 2023-24 at 62.3 possessions per game. So far this year are the 13th slowest team, but we are averaging 1.5 more possessions than last year at 63.8 per game. One thing in our defense is we have played the 58th toughest schedule this year according to KenPom, and our opponents collectively have been the 23rd-best in terms of defensive efficiency rankings against their opposition. I do think the UC Irvine game is a good one to build on and hopefully that can carry over to the UMBC game. There is a lot of talent and athleticism in this group, but as has been the case quite a bit we just get really bogged down quite a bit on offense. I know I haven't really brought up anything we don't know, but this was the first time I had a chance to look at the overall numbers.

How often does a kid pick TU over UNC, Va Tech, Duke or WVU?? Would love to know how what convinced him to pick Towson. (Love that he did!)

As Kenny Mayne use to say, games are not played on paper they are played inside television sets, that being said on paper this looks like a decent haul. Like you mentioned when you see some of these guys were recruited by I-A schools (I'm old school and always confuse FBS and FCS) it has to be a plus. Better than seeing them being recruited by D-II and D-III. Looking forward to see what the portal spits out.

I haven't seen all the highlights but I think it's a pretty good early class. I think when you're recruited by FBS programs, that's always a plus. We don't get many players from St. Frances Academy, so that's a plus with OL Mekhi Cousar and Calvert Hall is also a strong program so Chase Dorsey was a nice early pickup. Seth Chestnut might be the gem of the class since he committed to FAU. But who knows if any can contribute next season. We had a ton of true freshmen play last season and none were solid starters. Some were rotation guys, but that's asking a lot for anybody to start right away. It's why we desperately need transfers at: RB (2), QB (3), TE (1), ILB (2), OLB/Bandit (3), DL (2), CB (1), S (1), DL (2), K (1)
