Horrible shooting today across the board. I was especially disappointed by the squandered fast-break opportunities. We kept making one pass too many. Defense played well, though.
-
Best thing that happened to us was Downs taking a ball off the shin. He had been bad and Nolan made the most of his chance. I especially like his quick release on clears.
-
It might be more apt to say “Pat vs. Everyone.” Like him or not, I think we have to resign ourselves to him having, essentially, a lifetime contract. Win or lose tonight, he’ll continue to do enough year in and year out to keep getting extensions. When he decides to retire, we’ll get a new coach.

Complete collapse in that quarter.
-
Chop Gallagher with another TO. Just no awareness
-
We just don’t react well to the defensive pressure. Turnover after turnover.
-
I'm surprised we've kept it close. We look a step slower than UVa, especially in this half
-
That missed opportunity on the fast break with 2 minutes to play stings. We had numbers.

UNCW’s loss means we get a top 4 seed if we go 2-0 this weekend, regardless of what Hofstra and Drexel do. A tall order, I know, but within the realm of possibility.

I really hope Tarke doesn't come back next year. As has been noted in other threads, he's slow-footed and seems to get his shot blocked more often than not when going to the basket. As for those long-range bricks he throws up ... he even managed an airball on one attempt today. To my mind, he adds next to nothing to our lineup. At least Williamson has some moves when driving and also mixes in a fairly accurate step-back shot.
And, at the risk of sounding too dreary, I have NO HOPE of us reaching the NCAAs this decade. Nothing has changed with this coach, and nothing will. The AD is happy that we got 4,300 people into the arena today -- even if a third of them were kids showing their autism solidarity. I doubt there were 100 students in the "student section." The fact that we'll finish with a (barely) winning record will qualify this year as a success.

10-3 with 4 to play in the 2nd. We're shooting well and defending, but have been shaky on clears.
-
7-1 at the start of the second quarter. We came out like gangbusters, then lost some momentum, played a lot on the defensive end of the field.
-
Goal off the faceoff by Meidling. 7-1.
-
Up 6-1 with 4 minutes to play in the first. Impressive start.

In such a case, if a coach wants to establish roots, it’s a nice feel good story. In our case, after 13 years of postseason futility, the expiration date on the milk carton has expired. Unfortunately, I fear it’ll eventually be 16 years of such futility. I assume Skerry will soon be lobbying for yet another extension, claiming his ability to recruit will be hamstrung if he’s a short timer. (A somewhat dubious claim, given that the advent of the portal has resulted in a pool of short term rentals). And of course, citing to the fact he graduates kids & they do community service. I can only hope our AD & new President don’t fall for this. If they do, they might as well just give him a lifetime contract and be done with it
I met the new prez at the UNCW game. He seemed to think the world of PS. I told him I wasn't a fan, but he didn't ask me to elaborate.

Unless I missed it, there was no mention of Chris Watkins, who scored the winning TD against URI. Did he enter the portal?
Oops -- never mind. I see him now.

What about Villagomez? He had a promising freshman year.

I think that's unlikely, and not just because Charles has been struggling. Glancing at the Monmouth roster (it lists 19 players!), seven are 6-8 or taller. I suspect most of those guys don't play much, but that many tall men suggests there will be one of two of them in the paint throughout the night. It's just a tough matchup for CT.

His stats indicate he's not a threat to run the ball. At FCS level, that's almost a requirement.

No replies to this preview post ... pretty clear indicator of how little interest (let alone excitement) there is in the program right now. Sad to say, but the stadium will be all but empty this afternoon.

I watched the final 30 minutes. UNC dominated -- putting constant pressure on our defense and always being a step faster when we had the ball, intercepting passes and disrupting any attempt to score. Apparently, we came out strong early, which the stats make clear. Our nine shots all occurred in the first half; zilch in the second. Too bad we faced such a strong and accomplished opponent in the first round, but it was still a great season.

He shot 4 of 5 from the field (3-4 from three) in 20 minutes. Looks like he'll be significant part of the rotation. I hope he does well.
-
I'll say this: The Hens' QB was dynamic. We may have allowed his receivers to get open, but he didn't miss them. And as Mat says, he's very quick. He eluded pressure and found the open guy. But here's the thing: He played last year at Iowa Central Community College. There had to be other guys out there like him, but somehow our coaching staff couldn't find anybody to come in and challenge last year's 4th stringer for the starting job. How does that happen??

Glad to get the win, but face off remains an unsolved weakness. What is wrong with our coaches that we haven’t had a stud since Woodall seven years ago?
