  1. https://towsontigers.com/news/2022/11/5/towson-football-upsets-villanova-27-3.aspx Best defensive performance in years. Held a very good offense to under 200 yards. Now, they were missing their top WR, but we stopped the run. Bangda was great, rushing for over 100 yards and Hunter had another kick return for a TD. He's the best return man in the nation. Defense got pressure on the QB and stuck with the WRs. Other than the first Villanova drive, the Wildcats basically did nothing. Offensively, they got the RPO and ground game going for 267 yards rushing. Piggy was a bit erratic, but threw two perfect passes to Perkins in the end zone. Nice to see.

I do think Rob was a good leader. He did the right things when it came to making guys go to class and doing the right things off the field. On the field, I didn't agree with everything that was done, but what ultimately did him in was recruiting. Not getting enough talent at the important spots and maybe not picking the right DC though I'm sure $$$ had something to do with it. I'm sure he'll do fine as an OC/QB coach somewhere, but I could also see him as a HC at another FCS school if he chooses to take less $$$.

I’m sure they have to form a committee for the search and hire a firm. With recruiting, it would be great if it took 2-3 weeks but I assume not.

Ok, so Mason Woods is on the Jerry Rice Award Finalist for best freshman. https://towsontigers.com/news/2022/11/21/football-woods-honored-as-2022-jerry-rice-award-finalist.aspx He's one of a handful that the new coach will need to keep. Also, WR Isaiah Perkins and LT Dan Volpe. All three are freshmen. Same with G/C Jorden Nelson, who hasn't played yet, but will likely start at center for Cheripko next season. Was an original commit to UConn. But in all reality, especially with NIL, it will be tough to keep everyone. When you talk about resources, the budget is important but we really need, aside from some NIL money, is Cost of Attendance or Alston case so players can get some stipends.

    New Coach Thread

Yeah, I would assume he'd look at an SEC position coach or FCS coach from the South who has a very good record. He's from PA originally and went to the University of Maryland so his roots are all over the East Coast.

    Coppin State Preview

How many students will still be around Tuesday night? The giveaway is a bit disappointing but maybe they felt most would not care and would be on their way home.

    Coppin State Preview

Funny. That would pale in comparison to what's going on at Coppin State. Just Google Coppin State and Juan Dixon, sexual assault case.

That was early on in his tenure and I'm sure most coaches had to change their ways about 10 years ago.

Guys, I don't want the Kobe Young stuff on here. His brother has been going off on Twitter for months. He's changed Twitter names several times. You can check it out if you want, but please leave that stuff off of here.

We'll discuss that in the upcoming weeks and months. There are only a few players I'd think would have the chance of jumping possible to a Group of Five school or some with NIL money. The rest I feel are FCS and CAA players. I'll probably discuss more in a different thread.

I think most of us that are here love this program. Some don't and that's fine. FCS football is not for everyone. Tailgating is not for everyone. Steve Eigenbrot wasn't brought in just to replace Tim Leonard. He was going to come in and change things that needed changing or at least attempt. He also wasn't brought in just to hire a women's basketball and field hockey coach. Personally, I had a hard time watching this team over the years, on both sides of the ball. In the last four games, the defense played well, but the offense was like watching paint dry and I love football (FCS or FBS). If I had thought it was dull to cover and I can only imagine what the casual fans thought. They want to be entertained, not just win football games against bad-to-mediocre opponents. We were really good in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2018. That's four seasons in 13+ years. We were mediocre-to-bad the rest of the way. Mediocrity is 76-76. In years past, that was good enough. If you want to get to the next level, whatever that may be, whether it's top of the FCS or moving on to Gof5, then the move had to be made. Now, that hire will be the most important one since Rob was brought in. Even more than the Skerry hire because our program was dormant when he took over.

Tough call by Steve and kudos to Rob for a job well done in 13 years (I know the record was .500). Taking us to a place I'd never thought we get and that was Frisco. Unfortunately, the standards were set and we couldn't get close to reaching them after the 2013-14 season. Sure, there were a lot obstacles like Covid, some budgetary issues and a pretty weak donor base. But ultimately, the QB position wins or loses games. Other than Tom Flacco, since 2014 we started or played (off the top of my head), Tyrrell Pigrome, Scott Smith, Chris Ferguson, Nathan Kent, Morgan Mahalak, Connor Frazier, Ryan Stover, Ellis Knudson, Jeff Miller, Heath Dalgren and Vincent Amendola. I'm not going to take shots other than to say I wish him and his family good luck. The decision had to be made quickly either way and it was.

  15. https://towsontigers.com/news/2022/11/19/towson-football-tops-hampton-for-fourth-straight-victory.aspx Four straight wins to end the season. The defense held their last three opponents to 27 points combined. Sure, the opponents helped though the win over Villanova was arguably the best win since Flacco was at QB. Robert Javier was sensational for the second straight week with four deflections and the pick-six. I didn't see this happening from him. I was hoping he'd be this good about four years ago so I guess he's a late bloomer. The offense was good at using the clock, but they didn't finish drives. More later in the comments section about the penalties and how they were eliminated in the second half. Also, Isaiah Perkins is going to be a star. It would help if he played with a more accurate QB, but Piggy did get the job done with his arm and feet to get the team to 6-5. A win against an overrated Delaware team or they showed up against Elon or UNH, it would have been nice. W&M is just really good. Was that enough or not enough? That is the question and I attempted to ask it at the press conference with Steve Eigenbrot and Rob's wife in attendance, so it was awkward and there really wasn't an answer. Kind of tough to answer that in a press conference where your boss is in attendance other than to say, "our staff deserves to be here in 2023 and beyond, but I don't make those decisions." That's what I was hoping for but there wasn't an answer. More comments later.

Boy, I thought Hofstra could keep up. Lost 76-48. Probably too small against that huge team.

  18. Yes. Make a decision and announcement by Monday either with an extension or the official we’re not renewing his contract.
  19. I've only heard from a few football alums but it's really not their choice. The one making the decision, and maybe he'll have some help, is a Maryland alum.

  21. Comments after the game RA "I'm very proud, in a way that most people won't understand. I don't really care. These are football players and grown up young men. Really proud of how they played, how they carried themslves. Represented the football program and my diploma. Just happy that I got to spend time with them." Javier "Against Stony Brook, I kind of set up. Steeds was to my side, he was supposed to be my safety help. I know #11 personally, so I was just like, alright I was going to give him the inside and I wanted to win." Last 3 games, allowing 27 points Vinnie Schaffer "Coming together and playing as a team. Go out there and we want to win. We started, 2-0 and then 0-5 and to come out with a winning record, it's amazing. It shows you how much we gelled together. If we had five more weeks, we would have won five more games." On playing with new guys "Having all the new guys in, you have to fill that chemistry. When you go on that losing streak, guys aren't locked in as well. It speaks character to what these guys do." On overcoming adversity (sickness and 5-game losing streak) "I feel a lot of it was self-inflicted, We shot ourselves in the foot. We should have won a lot of those guys and we beat ourselves." RA on penalties in first half "I told them that if anybody retaliated again, that they would have to take off their uniform and they were done for the day. I have a lot of commentaries internal that I'm not going to say. They handled their business in the second half." On offense "This was a team win. Part of what we've done offensively, it a little bit what we did back in the day. When you face super-dynamic offenses, you better be able to control the ball. You better be able to keep the ball out of their hands. We ran the ball as well as anybody in the league in the second half of the season. That was out of necessity because we played some impressive offense. YOu can't score when you don't have the ball. We could have done some more stuff in the second half. But the longer we kept the ball, the longer they were on the sidelines, the colder they got and the less talented they became." On next year (will there be one) with the momentum of winning four straight? "Are you dropping football? (You ask him, pointed towards Steve E.) Unless the program is dead? A bunch of guys in the locker room that are tighter than before. They grow up. When they do, they tend to have a tremendous amount of success. There are a lot of guys that see what can be done and are excited about the future." Steed on two picks "I saw seeing basic routes. Verticals. Hash, hash, numbers. Easy reads. I just needed to stay poised in big moments. When I stay poised I make big plays." Vinnie on senior year "It feels surreal, coming from another school, walking on here. Grateful for all of it. The fact that we were able to come back and go 6-5. All of the momentum going into next year. I will will be here cheering on my guys. I love this team and all the people in it." On time of possession for defensive guys Vinnie "It gives everyone confidence. Football is a game of swag and momentum. I want to match that. We went out and played with our hearts." Rob on what the seniors what they went through "The guys that are in that locker room right now have gone through a college experience unlike any other in my lifetime. There's no playbook for any of us who have done us. To go through college and had the experience we had re-defined the word "challenge". I think everyone learned a bit about themselves and the game. The world throws you Covid and life is a lot different. As an alum, the experience here in the classroom and off can prepare you to be successful. I have complete confidence in all these kids that they will all be successful."
