Coach Metil has done a remarkable job. The Volleyball program was great under Chris Riley (got the job at Va. Tech) and now they are as strong as ever. Congrats to Coach Metil and the entire squad.

You could be correct in your "across the board" statement. The fact, though, does remain that the only sports folks care about are Basketball and Football. How many people really care about the success of track or tennis or volleyball or softball etc. So while the olympic sports might be doing well, very few care. This department is measured by football and basketball. I am not sure "across the board" really matters to anyone other than those participating in those sports.

Coach Skerry has proven that you don't have to do your job to get a bonus

The problem is that AD's and Assistant AD's are brought in to make changes. They are paid significant monies to do so. Our AD has had no problem spending monies on new fields, facilities, etc. Those expenditures were and remain necessary. However, anyone can spend money. We needed and still need someone to bring in significant monies. Our AD was a "fundraising hero" at his previous schools. To say fundraising is at a new high, may or may not be true, but it was so low that anyone could have improved on previous numbers and still leaves us well behind the 8 ball. His assistant AD's, we were told, were great at their jobs. But there has been no increase in attendance at either sport. Therefore, the AD and fundraisers and those assigned to be "fan development" folks have not done their job and we are counting on them to hire and fire coaches, who others see have not done their job. This is not a stab at anyone or any level of administration, but rather what I perceive as a statement of where the athletic department stands. But, we do lead the nation in community service. Who gets a raise and extension for that.

If the kicker makes the field goal instead of missing it, does that make RA a better coach? Everyone would be jumping for joy about making the playoffs again

The standards are higher when you pay a coach 450,000. We can not make the dance with someone making 35,000

There was a Maurice Howard...one of the top three high school guards. Came to Maryland....played along with Lucas and Brad Davis, but was hit by a car on campus and he was solid but never as good as he was in High School. Lucas did not play on the same high school team as Len Elmore.

Believe it or not there was a Mo Howard who was a great basketball player for Maryland. Played on the same High School team as Len Elmore (Power Memorial). We are clearly talking about different Mo Howards.

Maybe Tobias Howard would have helped???????????????

This is not a question as to whether or not we thought we would beat Xavier or Florida or Buffalo. The point is this team made mistakes that a high school JV team should not. They should be prepared to break a full court press, which they were not. They should be able to get the ball across half court. If not for the silly Buffalo foul that Fobbs made two free throws on and the stupid Buffalo foul at .3 seconds, the loss would have been significantly worse. Skerry might have gotten the team in a position to win, but you will never see a good coach's team make the basic basketball mistakes that this team makes, especially coming out of time outs. Teams that win are the teams that are fundamentally sound. Hopefully this team eventually will reach that status, but certainly not there yet.

For the record, it was a horrible loss. 7 point lead, less than 2 minutes, seniors on the floor throwing it away, a screen play where two players run into each other.....TERRIBLE LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The good news is we get a day off and don't have to be tortured again until Sunday

The coaching sucks.......they cant win a close game. They cant run a basic screen play in the last minute. Gonna be good is getting old. Have heard that crap for 9 years!

These players are too good to have such a horrible coach. No sets, no plays just run around and hope something good happens. DISGRACEFUL!

You are correct that I was not in the huddle. History is my teacher. In nine years there has not been one moment that Towson has won a significant close game. The only one that even comes close is the W & M game that Mike Morsell made a shot late. You would hope for more than that in nine years. Giving the devil his due, Skerry has brought a tough style of basketball to Towson. He has raised the program from the rankings in the 330's, but good coaches......coaches that get extensions....win the close games through their coaching. He just in nine years has not won a significant game. You are right about being all over the coah. It is because in nine years, with extensions for many more, he in reality, has won nothing! Nice guy, but being a nice guy should not get you extensions, any more than beating Rio Grande should.

The players did a great job...playing hard and playing well. The reason we lost is the same reason we have not won a close game of note in nine years. When you are tied or down a couple with a minute to go and you are coming out of a timeout any coach worth his salt can come up with something better than Brian Fobbs (or any player) dribbling around for 7-8 seconds and then heaving a 30 footer in a one on one move. And since that worked so poorly the first time we did it again. Those hours spent in practice seemingly can be put to better use. How can a coach, with a bench full of suited assistant coaches, not have a play in their back pocket to pull out when needed. The players did what they were told. They did their job. Why do you not, when down 4 with less than a minute to go try and get it in the lane to get a basket, forcing the other tam to make a play or free throws. The players are good. The coaching is atrocious. Let see if we can lobby to get him an extension so we can watch the same horrific coaching for an even dozen years.

I could not agree with you more...those were all necessary, but my point is that we have to be financially responsible if we ever have any hope to being competitive on a regular basis. That needs to be the first step...don't spend more than we have. We may have to live being who we are for a few years, but long term, the key is to be financially stable....thats what happened at JMU and now they are just printing money.

I understand the idea of, as Caret said, NC State to North Carolina or Michigan State to Michigan. He brought in Waddell, flashy and full of ideas, but they were all costly and he went well over budget. SO, what was the net result...Baseball and Soccer were sacrificed to try and make up for the deficit Waddell incurred. Ultimately baseball was saved, but a successful soccer program was the sacrificial lamb. WE JUST DONT HAVE THE MONEY. Fundraising is not nearly what is required and we are still making up for Waddell overspending...and it is done through the hefty student fees that each student , including the ones who dont give a damn about athletics, at Towson is paying. WE NEED A SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER. Even if we get one, it will take several years until we see the benefits of that money. Paying 445,000 to a basketball coach who has won nothing and not getting donations is a very bad combination. The vision should be to take a first step to financial common sense. I know we live in a world of immediate gratification....as does Mike Waddell...and we can clearly see the result of that mentality...NOT GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine what Skerry would get paid if he actually won something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did Skerry address the Howard issue at the press conference....was he even asked about it?
