What do you mean AGAIN?

Not sure we can call it "college "sports anymore. With the changes that have been made, with no guardrails, let us call it what it is........The Power Five are AAA basketball. The next five are AA basketball and the CAA along with many others are Rookie League. These kids have almost zero to do with the university. Just another shirt they wear and who signs the check. College sports has lost the true meaning of what it should be. I know I sound like the guy that says get the kids off my lawn, but what I am actually is wishing these kids got more out of their college days than some donor writing them a check and not worrying about the future of the VAST MAJORITY who will never play pro ball.

Matt, I just read an article that proves you are 100% correct. Mike Locksley said, in effect, his new 147 million dollar facility is irrelevant. To quote him " A kid will get dressed in a trash can for $25,000." He also said "relationships are almost irrelevant" Very sad thoughts....or actually, they are facts.

My friend, That is why I said it was an opinion with no scientific data behind it. I can only go by the student athletes I have met and talk to personally which covers practically all sports. I understand you think it is judgmental. I respect your point. However, I can only go by the eye test and the ear test.

Not at all........Give a new coach a shot with some additional funds. We have done that with Skerry and he has failed. We should not keep throwing good money after bad with a coach that has won nothing. If Steve, and his judgement looks outstanding, believes in a new coach, give him your support and funds with the chance to prove himself. If he fails, the spigot is turned off.

If you had won something, then perhaps you could ask for more.....but continually asking for more and coming up short of expectations and blaming it on not getting enough has gotten old. I know that we cant do anything about it with this absurd contract, which by the way, I don't blame Skerry for taking.....but if Towson cant afford to buy out a contract....that should tell everyone where we are financially and likely where we will continually be. We seem to be just another mid major with lots of hope and no money to back it up.

I agree with much of your post. I would, however, still like to make the case for money going to Olympic sports. The department, as is tru e of most D1 schools, is happy to include their GPAs in noting the high GPA of the athletic department. They hare happy to post thier championships, but they are incredibly short on funds. When these S/As graduate, they are grateful for their college athletic days. While this is an opinion, with no scientific data to back it up, I would say they are more appreciative of what they do receive, minimal as it might be, then the revenue sports whose athetes frequently expect rather than appreciate.

noted....sorry If I gave misinformation. However, when Skerry says he needs more.....he had enough to win a regular season 1st place finish. He is a perfect example of having enough, but when the team does not even get to a championship game in march, blame it on not having enough. Perhaps I am overly negative regarding the basketball program, but I think I am just being truthful as to what the team has failed to accomplish.

Each person makes their own decision as to where they want their donation to go. If it goes to NIL or event the Tiger Athletic Fund, the money goes to "whoever needs it most". Your donation is put in someone else's hands. You may be okay with that. I think that the donations should go to a specific sport. With full knowledge that the Olympic sports have very little relevance in regard to the finances of the department, as well as the folks that follow the Towson program on this site......those student athletes work just as hard, spends just as much time and are as deserving as the revenue sports. The only way they will get above and beyond their minimal budgets is for folks to donate specifically to the program. Instead, we keep on talking and raising money for a basketball program who has failed us year after year for a dozen years under a coach whose extensions to his contract are absurd. The "non-revenue" sports have brought championships, pride and honor the Towson Athletics. Perhaps they should get some of the money as well. Think about where you really want your money to go.

I think you also need to remember that when Pete Carrill started his offense, there was no three point line and actually there was no shot clock. It has evolved to take advantage of his principles and yet adapt to today's rules. I agree with a previous poster....Layups and Free Throws win basketball games....more often than not.

You have seen many more games than I have this year, so your opinion is likely more valid than mine. What I do know is in the games I have seen, the offense was try and find Timberlake for a 3. Anything else was incidental. No real schemes.

Most people realize that while Princeton has some fundamentally sound and "solid" basketball players....these kids go to Princeton for reasons other than basketball. The Ivies have their academic standards and make no exceptions for athletics. It is all about coaching and fundamentals. That is why Towson is at a disadvantage. No solid coaching or fundamentals.

Anyone who watched the Princeton-Arizona game yesterday should have no question as to the value of coaching. Solid offensive sets, great screens, back door cuts for layups come from discipline and hard work at practices. Practice is the work, games are the fun. Princeton has run the same offense for 30 years and they still win games against superior athletes. It is all in the coaching. Take it for what it is worth, but fundamentals are always critical....ALWAYS!

College sports is a two sided coin. When you with a conference championship....even if you suck during the year, you wind up getting a nice extension. BUT if you don't there are a thousand reasons why and next year will be better. If you get the extension for winning, you need to pay the price for losing. This is so similar to a previous discussion where we were not supposed to get on the players (since they are just kids doing their best). If you stick out your chest and expect a lot of bravos when you win, you need to pay the price when you don't. Realistically, we don't have the money so this is a moot point, but the point must be made. That is true beauty of sport. There is a scoreboard. Either you win or you lose when it matters. Those that don't win when it matters should not be around very long. Hope all the Skerry lovers are still proud of the banner that says we are not 1-31.

softball, gymnastics, Tennis? Golf M and/or w, Men's Soccer....they wound up playing Wake Forest...a great game.

It might be interesting to see how many Towson sports have been to NCAA post season competition since the last time MBB has done that.

I heard that Skerry is going to analyze the NCAA tournament for 105.7. Probably the closest he will come to the event.
