    As mentioned in this interview above, Towson is adding 10 more scholarships to programs that are not fully funded

    Good to hear. Would be nice to have a semi competitive baseball program.
    I do find it interesting to that we are “so far behind” our league peers. And would like to know if that’s because they are most private schools? Or that’s they don’t play football?

    Marcus, we hardly knew ya, but we’ll always have Montreal. Vaya con dios

    Don’t you mean, allez avec Dieu?

    😂

    But in all seriousness, him and Charles are subbed out for the incoming two freshmen so scholarships are all used. There are 2-3 non d1 players on this team and another total question mark. Not great.

    On the bright side maybe the staff, instead of worrying about finding replacement players in the portal, is working non stop on developing an offensive game plan. Who am I kidding… they aren’t.

    PS- Nolan Richardson today in an interview said coaches should not be around more than 5 seasons if they haven’t won anything and furthermore said today’s basketball fans expect results right away given the portal.  😉

    Well Nolan hasn’t met our gleeful mediocre accepting fanbase and AD!

    I’m working on a pipeline to Manila 🇵🇭 via my barber 💈 shop..   are we still planning to play small ball next 3-4 seasons?

    Small ball or stall ball?!  As long as they can hedge, rebound and not run any offense in close games, they have a spot! Well not actually, since everyone is returning…

    Easy and predictable win today 25-2 over Hampton. It's like playing a D2 team in hoops or football, but you don't have a choice because this is a conference opponent.

    That D2 team beat us in hoops…. Not sure why they are in the league, look at their records in football basketball lacrosse women’s hoops volleyball and women’s soccer the first two seasons. Rough is an understatement.

    So interestingly enough, I read that the ban on NIL for foreign players isn’t actually an NCAA thing, but rather such payments are banned under U.S. law

    Yeah because they are on a student visa they aren’t eligible or something.  Speaking of Mack just landed a big foreign kid from Xavier.

    Again, if we have no NIL money, go to overseas players.

    Agree with you. Hate the new ncaa and rules. But did anyone think that this wouldn’t happen 5 years ago or so when it was put on the table. Removing of the one time free transfer rule (minus coach leaving) and making NIL income not available during the sit out year (because hey they aren’t playing) would curb some of this

    We're never going to get solid D1 transfers who score 12+ points per game until we start raising more money for NIL and giving some out of our pocket. It's still incumbent on the athletic department to continue to push the difference between giving to the TAF and GOH Collective. Most people still don't know what they are giving to. Another zoom meeting with Richard Kent or somebody in the know is needed. That's not a Skerry thing. It's not a system or pace factor. It's an NIL factor and until we can have Hofstra, Stony Brook and UNCW money (we're never going to catch CofC), then we're going to have to do it the old-fashioned way and methodical way and that's recruit freshmen.

    Those other schools aren’t rolling in it either. So that’s moot.  Besides the tier one university listed, what do the others have in Common?

    Better mid major towns on the East Coast makes us sound like we’ve had 60 consecutive sellouts at the Towson Arena and we’ve won the CAA 9 out of the last 10 seasons.  Complete bullshit!

    Cranky on the left coast haha.

    I know

    Don’t hate it. Don’t love it. But “it’s fluid”. Announcing this and then not following through would look bad.  Just strange.  Everyone better make HUGE jumps in the off-season. This was the season where it was wide open

    Doesn’t make a great deal of sense that Watson would leave of his own volition. Seems to me he needs to prove he can still play in order to get a Euro contract. And I can’t imagine he would get any substantial NIL at another school, coming off this injury

    Don’t disagree just stating some facts

    If true, this is a complete fail. Sorry, loyalty is a wonderful quality in a dog, but this is a business. Let’s look at some of the guys he’s bringing back:

    Jones. Unathletic. Averaged what, 6ppg. May already have his degree, so moving him on down the line wouldn’t have hurt the young man in that regard;

    Hicks. He’s one strong breeze from missing all of next season, like he missed all this season. Even when healthy, he’s a “meh,” on the court;

    Cole. Despite my high hopes for him, he showed very little in his limited playing time last season;

    Coleman. D2…maybe;

    Paar. The best, or worst, for last. Well, he’s big, but that’s about it. He can’t shoot, you can’t throw him a pass, for fear it’ll clank off his hands, he can’t hedge on defense. Frankly, I’m not sure what he’s good at. Plus, he’s very likely has graduated, so why, why, why bring him back????? You mean to tell me there’s no one better than him in the portal? C’mon.

    There’s a real problem here. Is the coach just going through the motions? Why is he seemingly paralyzed in terms of making roster changes? And, if he’s really going to run Watson off…WTF???? The one guy who’s got athleticism and has proven he can score. The university pays for his room, board, classes, surgery and rehab, only to kick him to the curb, while keeping the players listed above?

    These incoming freshmen better be damn good, or next year could be a real fiasco

    Thanks for taking my place.🤣  You're going to get crushed here, lol.  I can see it now, that one guy 2024 "Diz da Probz with U fake bluffin fanz!  Entire cRew Returns for 1 last RiDe (or Die) and U guyz are upset! Wat do you want?? To win more den 18 games!?"

    Since we are using names, yes, Coleman, Paar and Hicks are questionable returnees.  Watson thing is concerning, though coming off ACL surgery, the athleticism won't be the same, but still likely better than anything we have.  Obviously with the bigger names not even entering portal (with potential to come back), is something.  Glass half full for some, Glass half empty for others. Me?  It's just more of the same, enjoy the 18-13 record and epic choke in the CAAT.

    I'm not stopping this thread, but apparently, we won't be bringing in a transfer at this time. I get bringing Jaiden Cole back, because there is upside there in terms of length and athletic ability. Hicks has had several concussions but hasn't graduated yet. It's tough to just nudge him off the team and reportedly, he's been cleared. But the Paar thing I don't get. Clumsy big with bad knees who graduated. I assume Watson is the odd man out because somebody has to go to clear the way for both freshmen to come in.

    This also puts a ton of pressure on 6-9 Caleb Embeya. I think offensively, he has a chance to be better than Charles right away, but defense and staying away from fouling too much is almost always an issue for young big men. The good thing is that he's athletic enough to switch and smaller players and not hurt you.

    I get it, but I also don't get it. My feelings on Pat as a coach put aside, it is nice to see the loyalty these student athletes have to him and the university. Refreshing in this day and age, and maybe we can stop hearing some folks on here bitch and complain about NIL. But there were at least 3 players who are marginal (being nice) contributors, that have been here for 3 years... Whether it be ability, or availability, they are what they are, and that's 9-12 on the bench... With or without Watson, and assuming you are correct, and he leaves, this team is still missing pieces. If this team was very good last year and lost on a fluke, running it back is great. This is questionable at best, while they did win like 19 games, there were some major holes that could have been filled in the portal.

  13. Just think, Cam Spencer was UCONN's second choice, after being spurned by Timberlake (HAHA).  Things have a way of working out (or you get lucky). Spencer was an X factor all season and was a big piece in this title run. Nick would not have been able to replicate anything similar what Spencer did at UCONN.

  14. As many bad results come from the team, gotta give them props when they win.  Took 2 out of 3 against Hofstra last weekend and then won one against preseason favorite NE this weekend.

    "OK, we won a game yesterday. If we win today, it's called "two in a row". And if we win again tomorrow, it's called a "winning streak"... It has happened before!"

    I guess the disconnect is that I don't think we are alright with 1 of 3. I think we are just saying that being 38-16 in conference play in three years is a good thing and it is more fun to watch than 29-29 or worse. It is not good enough, but I also don't think it should be dismissed.

    I also think as a whole there is a lot that needs to be better, and we should all expect more if we want to get there. I don't see why both things can't be true. However, we have this conversation every offseason and I doubt we will ever agree. Ultimately, we all want the same things for this program. However, we will have all of these "agree to disagree" semantics until the job gets done. I look forward to what the topic can be the day after that happens. I guess that is part of what keeps us coming back here. That, and I am guessing a passion for wanting this program to break through its 33-year (soon to be 34) old ceiling.

    Not a personal attack. You are more towards the middle, but saying people aren’t happy with a winning season or 20 wins, is just false. Not saying it was you.  I’m not digging that far back but two years ago there were a few posters that would rather 27-5 and a first round exit than 15-19, a CAAT championship and a trip to the tournament

    I too hope that we get to the point where we talk about dancing rather than 18 and 19^ (no asterisks here only carrots!) wins

    I have two points where I would challenge your post.

    From 1996-97 through 2011-12 we finished higher than 7th in the conference twice, went to one conference tournament semifinal and were ever were above .500. Since 2012-13, we have finished over .500 10 times, have been fifth or better 10 times, and advanced to five semifinals. I completely agree with you all that none of it is acceptable without an NCAA Tournament berth. However, at least I have optimism that we can be a good team and try to avoid choking as opposed to knowing we would be one of the worst teams in the conference and would have not shot to be in the mix come conference tournament time. This is not meant to be sticking up Skerry, because I would agree while I appreciate what he has done we overdue for a tournament appearance (heck, I think he would admit it too). However, I am just saying from a fan's standpoint it has been much easier to root for and travel to see games know we at least have a decent to good squad most years.

    This last point would have more ground to stand on if our conference could ever win a conference tournament game, but admittedly at this point it is hypothetical exercise because how pathetic it has been. Based on your points of winning it all being the only result that matters, I would say conference play and non-conference play matter even more. If the goal is to get to an NCAA Tournament, then it should also be to be seeded as good as possible to have the best possible chance to win and accomplish as much as possible. The year Drexel and Delaware made it they had flimsy resumes and got 16 and 15 seeds where they got crushed. Charleston has managed to get 13 and 14, and even a 12 seed. This theoretically gives them a better chance to do well and if our conference wasn't such a joke in NCAA Tournament play this would make a difference. To get a better seed, you have to play well in the regular-season (especially in a one-bid-league).

    Again, I don't say this to stick up for any particular coach or administrator, or to "accept mediocrity". To me, it is just common sense that to get to where we want to be as fans, this program needs to play well in non-conference play, be good in CAA play, and win in the conference tournament. We are 1 for 3 for the most part  recently. Not acceptable, but better than 0-3. Whether it is with or without this coach, we need to figure out the other two elements. How we all perceive the journey to get there is merely a matter of opinion.

    Completely understand what you’re saying.  But being ok with 1 for 3 and not making that next “jump”, is the problem.  “Hey it could be worse”. Yes it could. But sure as hell could be better, ask every team in our league whose played for a chance to go to the tournament in the past 10 years

    This does not exist. You merely make this up that there are those (on this board at least) who celebrate this.
