He’s had some solid recruits recently and we get Watson healthy for the 2024-2025 season.  I just think with his overall deficiency in development of players and X’s/O’s we need to add an assistant coach of some sorts and land a big time front court transfer or we may dip into the bottom of the CAA next season as the rest of bunch will be better.

They could be 4 and 5 stars and he would still f it up. 58 points ain’t winning you games in march.
Idk Hofstra is gonna lose a lot, ne may have new coach and have been bad for a few years. Wm and Hampton new coaches.  Drexel losing a lot.  Stony Brook had a ton, like 6 of their top 7 as grad students. Elon will be better. Uncw will be uncw.  And Charleston well, they lose next to nothing. That core is full of juniors.
Obviously with portal is yet to be seen. But if I can bet 50k on us not making to the finals, we can get closer to getting this coach packing!

so who was the moment too big for?

If you watched, looked to be everyone. Deer in a headlight look for everyone on Towson's side. It almost seemed as a "Shit we shouldn't be in this position and we didn't plan for it! What now?!"   Stall ball, not attacking or even getting shots off, airballing a shot, Charles picking up the 5th foul, all proved detrimental.  To be fair, Charleston made some winning plays at the end. It wasn't just us throwing up all over ourselves, but a large portion of it was.

that 2016 Maryland game just kills me - up 13 in the second half. talk about what could have been a program changing win.  I was at the game and I remember Maryland had to call a timeout in the first half and all the Towson fans spread out in Comcast stood up and got loud. It was awesome, we had so many fans there and to see all the twerp fans losing their minds 😁.... then we proceed to blow it.

the color guy during the CofC game still it super well - playing not to lose vs playing to win. we play not to lose and thus do most of the time.

bay area said it in the other thread: we have alums that want to believe and turn on, go to, the big games. You see it when we play power 5 schools in MBB and FB; when we made the FB championship game, the CAA tournament. People post pictures of their TVs along the lines of 'here we go' and what Towson goes full Towson and chokes. At some point give the alumni base something to cheer about, something to remember, something to talk about new since 1991.

Same. camelo thimble went to the line like 27 times the second half. Stripes weren’t letting us leave with a win

Lady selling beer at the cart said “you’ll need a lot of these today” and chuckled looking at my hoodie and hat. Went back right before half and she looked like she saw a ghost

I can only hope that whoever runs our collective is given a list of prospective donors to reach out to. Maybe there are some donors who voluntarily give, but we should aggressively pursue alums, particularly those who are well heeled

Looks like Pure Raw Juice, is now sponsoring some of the men's and women's players.

  5. Avert your eyes Tigers Fans (at least to the ones that don't already have their heads in the sand about this program). Had some extra time in the office today and did some stat digging.  Some of these are depressing and mind numbing.

There have been some nice comeback wins along the way, and I am sure the Pat supporters will post them (Hope you do!), but this is about the blown leads, close losses, almost had it, and what should have been.

From the last few regular seasons.  ^^ (because we can't do asterisks on here!)  is the highest % in the second half, not always at time of biggest lead.

    image.png.619da8915a6e8edd0da4702ec1b5e1e1.png

CAA Tournament Losses (All 11)  ^^ (Again no asterisks here!) Does Not Include 2020/2021 COVID Game. That was a blow out the entire game.

    image.png.f6fdc774358f23ee6a457d93734a9651.png

In our CAAT Games since Benimon we have scored:

    56, 66, 67, 86, 72, 68, 56, 48, 62, 73, 66, 59, 82, 60, 69^    ^OT game, 62 in Regulation.  More games under 57 then over 81... We can have the best defense around, but with scoring numbers like those, you aren't going to win multiple games many times.

Little did I know that I had so many alums who don’t follow the team as close as all of us but they told me with 4 minutes left they were all making plans to take off yesterday and driving down to DC to be part of history.
Oh I see UMass Lowell is playing Saturday for the America East bid.
This loss of ours is gonna stick around all off season and I’m gonna take my anger out on our coaches not the players.
He praised his assistants week in and week out for good scouts and then the idea of going with 4 guards late against UNCW.
He obviously relies on them a great deal so who takes the fall for the 13-1 run blunder?
When Nick Siriani kept his job he fired assistants.  Can’t come back with same coaching staff for 2024-25.  If no money then let an assistant go and replace him with a graduate assistant.  These coaching staffs today run 7-8 deep.

Yeah, If we ever get to a final it’ll probably 5+ hours away and not allow for anyone to show.  Shame we have laid egg over egg in these tournaments close to home

I’m not sure he’s going to make any changes, unless mandated to do so by the AD. Having said that, maybe he does it on his own, understanding that it might be in his own best interests, in terms of his desire for a lifetime contract

He won’t. Why would he? Zero motivation

Someone please explain to me how on earth Towson baseball has been this bad for so long. I’m assuming it starts with the head coach?

Is there any hope of getting this program to respectability anytime in the foreseeable future??

It’s sad. As a baseball fan, wish we had a decent team. Would be more fun and give better notoriety than other spring sports

I have some plain bagels in my fridge, that I’m willing to toss into the NIL pot. If the player is good enough, I’d even be willing to up the ante to chocolate chip bagels (my personal favorite) and cream cheese

Need those businesses.  Hunt valley bagels (much better than the things Thb calls bagels) is an alum. The Bricks are   Can we get some money there?  How about our friend Fran?

  9. Jerry deng out of Hampton is in the portal. I’d offer. We can poach all the HBCUS! first Watson than tarke (ugh).
or Jacob crews out of UT Martin. Maybe Holden can help us?  Definitely their best player since cam.  (More or not we would have not shot)

Pat is the head coach.  I don’t see us ever getting over the hump so next thought is buying a player or two who possibly can.  If we know who the top contributors are then we ask (beg) for NIL money.
I know at least “4” of the top contributors to USF basketball and they went out and bought Jonathan Mogbo (success) and Mike Sharajamts (bust)

2012 made a great point recently..  3 years left with this coach.   Then either sandbag and go with Juco/D2 players or go after a name of some sorts.  Let our fanbase and more importantly our top contributors know what the plan is.   P & L report etc.  Town Hall meeting.

Or we can try and go route of ole miss football and go all in one year and use all the money there. Obviously we would save up until pat “no big wins” skerry is gone.  That would entice a coach too.

We could be 31-2 with all 5 starters on first team all conference and we still would not win the league with that little man roaming the sidelines.

I’m ok with going the D2, JUCO, NAIA route, provided we’re not talking Sylaa and/or Suliaman 2.0.  Hasn’t C of C had great results going this route?

If Kelsey comes with one or more of those types of players than yes I’ll take some at tigers arena 😂

    Makes no sense. It’s not that he’s a bad 3-point shooter, he’s never even taken a 3.

I’ll assume not our plan A; hopefully not even plan Z. If we bring this guy in, it tells you we have no NIL to speak of

Lol. Come on a gully who averages 3 offensive rebounds per 40 minutes and shoots 55% from the line?! That’s right up our alley!

In all seriousness, he really is our type of player!  Suliman Sylla and  jones 2.0. We know his shooting % will only go down in the black and gold.

again this NIL crap,  every school out there isn’t offering up thousands of dollars.  If we can’t “afford” a player now, they likely weren’t coming to Towson anyway.

let’s just fill the roster with jucos and d2 players and throw in the towel until 2027 comes.   Any money donors are giving should be towards a buy out not new players that this staff can screw up

  13. 12 hours ago, Bay Area Tiger said:

We need NIL money to land any significant transfers going forward.  They aren’t coming to play for Pat knowing their stats will shrink playing in this offense.
I pray our trio stays but I’m gonna assume we lose at least of one of them as they want to move up the ranks.  We had that game tonight and we let them off the ropes.

You can play and win a style where individual stats aren’t great, especially at the mid major level (see our opponent last night) but when you either hold the ball and not get a shot or have a selfish guard go 1 on 3 and air ball numerous layups and brick 27 footers it’s tough

Look, I’ve posed this question before, and I’ll do so again now…who would we want back next year from this team? The list is dwindling. IMHO, it’s down to Lowery, Tejada and Williamson. Can anyone truly say they enthusiastically want May back? Jones? Tarke? Suliaman? Coleman? Cole? (This one pains me, because I held out great hope for him, but no longer, at least not here).

The three you mentioned and I’d take Suliman. But of those 4, two are starters, the rest are role Players

13 hours ago, Bay Area Tiger said:

Gotta want Tarke back.  Considering how his season started by the NCAA I thought he had a solid season for us.  He’s a glue guy and we can’t come back with no PG’s.
May led us in scoring this season and at times was really good defensively. Gotta bring him back.

    Hard no!

There are approximately 362 division 1 basketball programs.  You need very few players on a basketball team, unlike in football, to make a splash in a particular year (a splash is not a championship).  Who knows how NIL  will shake out but I can’t see how a program like Towson will benefit.  The resources just are not there.  Be careful what you wish for in dismissing Skerry and the players you guys are mentioning.  Every coach for those 362 programs wants to keep their job and fights like hell to pick off players and scrambles up whatever resources they can to pull this player from here and this player from there. Is there any doubt that the corruption of the last 40 years with essentially the same division FBS football teams dominating each and every year was not a coincidence?  The same teams don’t win for that long because they just have a great coach.  They buy mother’s a new home and they buy family new vehicles and many other ways.  Now NIL is expanding the corruption and schools like Alabama know that the gravy train is over and Alabama will lose players they never would have lost in the past for the foreseeable future.

My point is, is that no one knows how this will shake out because we are in the wild wild west stage.  Money is being thrown all over the place and I don’t know who you are going to bring in here that is going to be able to satisfy you guys in this type of environment for any extended period of time, because I think it can easily get substantially worse for a program like Towson.  The days of complaining that we need this type of player or a coach that understands this or that, I think may be over because it just may not matter more than who can pay off the most players.  I don’t believe you can get a Gary Neal, Jerrelle Benimon and Terrance West to come to Towson or certainly stay.   Those days seem to be over.  You may get lucky and get this kid to come here and the team then has a decent year but Towson dominating in the CAA seems highly unlikely and not because of Skerry.  I’m not sure Skerry hasn’t done a heck of a job so far.  I look at that Delaware performance against Hofstra.  Just a terrible display of basketball from a school that has a lot more resources than us and I wonder what you guys would say about the Delaware coach if you were fans?  They got smoked by an average Hofstra team when it mattered.  That game was not competitive.

I certainly wouldn’t want to coach in college sports in this environment and I think a lot of veteran coach's agree with me.  If you are a young coach and doesn't have money you join the corruption because that is the current system.  You keep moving from program to program seeking out a place that has more resources.  Resources are going to convince young coaches to take a job.  Experienced coaches that have made their money are going to retire.

NIL had nothing to do with last night. That’s a fucking excuse that people are going to use, and maybe a few seasons now it will be one but Jesus F Christ. Besides Charleston, no one is rolling in the dough. 750 bucks to go to an and t or 500 to Towson, it’s not like we are competing with duke, unc Kansas. Sheesh.
And Delaware fans want ingelsby gone. And have for a bit.  Huskies fans are begging for coen to be gone. Until 4 weeks ago Drexel fans were questioning spiker. But here at Towson we have an idiotic philosophy to hand out extensions like candy and we are left being passed by schools who hav me rebuilt and passed us again numerous times

    4 hours ago, TSU88 said:

If this is the case, just give him a lifetime contract and be done with it.

Last night’s debacle had nothing to do with NIL, and a great deal to do with dubious coaching decisions.

Change always brings concerns of the unknown, but change sometimes is necessary, even if it’s just for the sake of change itself. I’d rather take a risk than continue on the path we’ve been on. The bottom line is getting to the NCAA tournament. Anything short of that is just window dressing. Stony Brook, which I doubt is dripping with NIL money (maybe I’m wrong) is in the championship game in only its second year in the conference. Our coach has failed to make it this far in 13 years.

Yup. It’s like we are scared to make a change on something that isn’t working or hasn’t worked.

    4 hours ago, Tgr4life said:

You can talk all you want about NIL, Finances, Comparisons in those areas to others. Last nights loss to get to the finals was done with two simple words......BAD COACHING

Yup. But it’s easier to find an excuse for their man skerry.

2 hours ago, Bay Area Tiger said:

Next morning and still stings….  how could we piss that game away?  Thank you Charles Thompson for your 5 seasons.
Pat has gotta shake up his staff and add a coach or two.  He’s not falling but someone has to for that collapse last night.
Got more depressed last night watching all the other conference tournaments and seeing Cinderellas emerge.  Not going to get any easier in 2024-2025 knowing teams like Elon, A & T are gonna get better etc.  Lucy continues to yank that ball from us.  How much more can we take?  I shouldn’t be this angry with the coach cause before this game last night I thought he was on to something mentally with his comments leading up to the game with Charleston but then last night in the postgame he sounds like a guy who never had a plan and was talking tongue and cheek.  13-1 run!!!!

    My profile photo.

    wonder where 24 is?

  15. 10 minutes ago, TSU88 said:

Agreed. He’s a kid and at the end of the day it’s just a basketball game. Having said that, I hope he has a good junior and senior season, and gets his degree…at another school. Skerry might want to bring him back, so he can work through any stigma associated with his air ball (I still can’t believe it), but I’m not sure how he does that by coming back. I guess you could say he shouldn’t run away from this & should face any demons he might have head on. I say a change of scenery and fresh start elsewhere would be best for all involved

Yup. Seems like a nice kid and a decent role player. Just not a guy for the moment, nothing wrong with that.   But it’s not like he’s a 90% shooter from the line and that it was to tie the game. Feel bad for him on that one.

Expectations were for him to be Timberlake 2.0. Which wasn’t realistic nor do fans (atleast the smart ones) would want that

Spiro is great.  He’s a Towson broadcasting legend.  No need to go after him.
2012 you need to leave the state for a year and experience some positivity.  Nothing wrong with being positive about the alma mater we all love.
I don’t think Pat is the right guy going forward but I don’t make those decisions.  He’s gotten us back to respectability but now we need to go farther.

He’s a ridiculous homer and well some other things but I’ll be nice and bite my tongue. Our entire broadcast is well bush league, but I guess that’s what we just accept at Towson !

    10 minutes ago, TSU88 said:

I think it would be best for May if he had a change of scenery starting next season. It’s too simplistic to blame the loss on him, but his air ball epitomizes the futility of the Skerry era. What did he score in these 3 games, 10 points? And he was our leading scorer in the regular season.

Look, it is what it is. We will NEVER beat C of C in the conference tournament. They have a million dollar NIL war chest; we maybe have 1/10th of that. Even if Kelsey leaves for greener pastures, we are saddled with Skerry in perpetuity.

I’m reconciled to the fact we will not make the NCAA Tournament again in my lifetime

Not blaming that on May. If we are pinning blame on a player we all know who it is… tough as usual the blame should go to the staff. Awful late game execution.

Agree on May, maybe he can ask Suliman about IU Pennsylvania? Some schools where the pressure isn’t high. Or a school where he can be the 6th option
