  1. I get it. Just trying to post a deserting view 😎 Foe the record ive been there up close nearly evey home game and many road and tournament gsmes since Skerry’s first year. i understand many like Matt have been following tbe team for nearly 25 to 30 years. i Am just never amazed at how rhe negative posts following a loss will outnumber the positive after any win easily 2 to 1. Matt has asked me why i dont post on here more often. And Frankly not that it will matter to anyone. But its the rampant negative tone on here And before anyone says, “Welcome to the internet” I’m an active member on several forums and even the Director of one of the largest ones in its sport.
  2. Yep. Par for the course for this group. You get 5 pages of rants and calling for everyones heads after a loss. Yet after a solid win over an A-10 team all be it a bit very good one. Barely 1.5 pages and most of it isn't about the win. Well. For those who think this is such a horrible team. Take a look at Basketball Rankings---an unbiased source---current ranking and prediction of finish.
  3. They showed a lot of resilience in having the 18 point lead cut to 2, then stopping the bleeding and building it back up. No doubt they have to work on handling the press. Gibson needs to learn situational awareness, a couple “freshman like mistakes” down the stretch. Trust me, by February he’ll look like a much more complete player. Love the potential future of him and Timberlake out there together.

For the record I didn't it wasn't a horrible loss, it is. You can't deny thst, a 7 point lead with 1:26 or whatever it was, shouldnt happen. Especially in that manner. I just usually choose to focus on the positives, it's my nature. These have been 4 tough teams they have played. All four could end up in the tournament again. It's not the end of the world.

If you don't think Sanders and Thompson showed huge improvement then I don't know what you were watching. Yes TO's killed them and that has always been an issue, I agree. But theu have so many new faces getting substantial playing time. I think it's something that will decrease in time.

Ask any Redskiks fan. We'll be happy to tell you. Id like to copy some of these comments and paste them back later this season

Wow. Negative much. Sure it's a game they should have won and mistakes killed them But I saw so much improvement in the overall play --minus the turnovers--from so many players. Thompson took huge steps against a quality team. Sanders--if he continues to play at anywhere near that intensity, it will be a huge asset. Fobns appears to come out of his shooting funk and Gibson will only get better
  10. Thanks. I had thought possibly Morsel but then I looked it up and his first game was against Alabama and had 2 points.

    Flo Sports announces broadcast team

Yes, John Feinstein is obligated to ESPN3 for UMBC home games. When they aren't playing at home at the same time as Towson, he'll be calling the games with Brent Harris.
  12. I think they looked very good tonight. Good ball movement. Solid shot selection. Good defensive positioning for the most part Loved what I saw out of Gray and Gibson. Question for you long timers with good recall. Who was the last Freshman to score in double figures in the season opener. I have no clue but a shot in the dark...Jerome Hairston?

Talked to JD before the game. He was nervous about it but looking forward to it. He's doing great, living and working In DC had his son with him and doing well. Looking forward to doing the TV thing for a few games.

    CAA Basketball preview

I was there today and spoke to both Pat and Brian--among others. They both feel this team is going to be very deep in scoring. Fobbs said the transfers and freshman are soooo good and are pushing him and everyone else in practice. Par said playing time will be earned regardless if you are a senior or freshman. He said this team will be 10 players deep if everyone stays healthy. In that regard he said they remind him a lot of John Davis's senior year team. Non Con schedule is tough. But he purposely scheduled it that way. Feels this team will be up for the challenge.
  15. I think it's been a while since Towson has had one of these. But nice recognition for a heck of a game. CAA Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week: Brian Fobbs, Towson, Jr., G, 6-4, 215, New York, N.Y./Genesee CC Fobbs poured in a career-high 32 points, including a game-winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in double overtime, in Towson’s 80-76 road victory at rival UMBC last Tuesday. The junior guard was 6-of-12 from 3-point range and 10-of-10 at the free throw line while also contributing seven rebounds. The scoring effort was tied for 13th-best in Tigers’ history. Fobbs ranks 8th in the CAA with 16.4 ppg.

MBB, Fobbs stun UMBC in double OT, 80-76

Good win for Towson. As I told Mat, imediately afterward, they needed this win badly. It Was enjoyable game to watch. Especially the Later stages of the 2nd half and the OT's. The very first coach I covered Ralph Undethill at Wright State always said. "Free Throw shooting doesn't win every game, just all the close ones" That has held true for over 30 years. On the arena. The open end is meant for concert staging and has the loading dock right behind those curtains for easy access for trucks and trailers. It has been discussed putting temporary seating there for the band should they start filling the student section fully and regularly.

MBB downs Loyola, 85-69 (story up)

My first look at this year's team. Overall was more impressed than I expected to be. Sure it's a PL team. But a decent one at that. Looking at the season stats before the game, with no one averaging in double figures I was wondering where the points will come from. As the second half showed, both Fobbs and Howard are capable of scoring. Mat has mentioned several times in the preseason that Fobbs is good at getting to the rim. I'll definitley echo that sentiment. And most importantly finishing there. Also nice to see Howard make the FT's down the stretch and 81% for the team in the 2nd half is a nice change. Was very impressed with Sanders performance 14 and 9 and only 1 TO. Which pleased Skerry. He said afterward that Sanders had the ratio of assists to turnover backwards. Ha But he is strong inside and again I know it was a smaller opponent then he will face in league play. So we shall see. But good signs. Timberlake was very good with the ball in transition. One particular fast break in the first half. He could rightly have been credited with two assists on one play. They were they good of passes. Obviously he struggled on defense, continually getting beat 1-1 and backdoor. That will probably limit his minutes until he improves. I hope he does because I can see him as a solid contributor with the ball. Alex looked very good even on a couple power moves to the basket early on. One of them I commented was probably the most athletic move I've seen him make in four years. Vermont will be a huge test. Anthony Lamb is on the watch list for Mid-Major POY. Hope for a good turnout for what should be a very good game.

Today’s ugly loss to NDSU (story)

i remember reading on this board during Zane's freshman year, that he was "over recruited" and couldn't play at the D1 level and was a DII player at best, then he played at an all conference level during the second half of his sophomore year. So this is said, to say, give the freshman a chance. Due to my schedule and other games to cover, I've yet to see Towson in person, but should be out there this weekend, and will anxious and curios to get some thoughts of them live. As to the Skerry thought, I guess he's become a victim of his success. As Mat mentioned the program was a national joke when he got here. He had some immediate success after the 1-31 season, and expectations have been high ever since. But I'd say it's nice that people can have expectations to look toward, versus knowing going in that there is no chance to even be competitive.

    Video from Baltimore Media Day

Well, I appeared in quite a few of those shots. it was a great day yesterday, not only to get to speak to Pat, Jordan, Diane and Nukiya but all the other area coaches and players. I asked Jordan if he has really been here 5 years, in a way it seems like he's been here forever, but it also seems to have gone so fast. FWIW, he seemed a bit bigger to me, maybe even 1/2 taller and definitely a few pounds bigger..in a good way. Definitely should be able to hold his own size wise at the 2 or 3. There so much unknown with this team, with nine new players, everyone wants to know where the scoring is going to come from, and Pat said that may be something that just evolves during the course of the season, but he's confident they will score in transition and is confident it will be a good shooting team, even if not immediately. He's pretty excited about the potential of Sanders and Fobbs, and thinks Dennis could take a big step this year not playing in the shadow of others, but most importantly has the attitude and commitment to play hard.
