    General Basketball Thread for 2024-25

I doubt that info is available to the general public. We need some guardian angels with deep pockets in the worst way

    2024-25 Transfer Thread

I’m ok with going the D2, JUCO, NAIA route, provided we’re not talking Sylaa and/or Suliaman 2.0. Hasn’t C of C had great results going this route?

    2024-25 Transfer Thread

Makes no sense. It’s not that he’s a bad 3-point shooter, he’s never even taken a 3. I’ll assume not our plan A; hopefully not even plan Z. If we bring this guy in, it tells you we have no NIL to speak of

    Evaluation of the postseason

Ain’t nothing washing away the pain of last night. A whole jug of Tide detergent wouldn’t be enough
  5. 1 coach is a proven winner. The other wilts in big moments like a flower in a drought. Care to figure out which is which?🤔
  6. If this is the case, just give him a lifetime contract and be done with it. Last night’s debacle had nothing to do with NIL, and a great deal to do with dubious coaching decisions. Change always brings concerns of the unknown, but change sometimes is necessary, even if it’s just for the sake of change itself. I’d rather take a risk than continue on the path we’ve been on. The bottom line is getting to the NCAA tournament. Anything short of that is just window dressing. Stony Brook, which I doubt is dripping with NIL money (maybe I’m wrong) is in the championship game in only its second year in the conference. Our coach has failed to make it this far in 13 years.

    Evaluation of the postseason

I wasn’t worried about Williamson possibly bolting, that is until he avg’d 15 or so ppg in the tournament. Hopefully, people don’t start whispering in his ear that he’s too good to stay here. Same concern with Tejada; not so much as to Lowery. The concerning part, aside from our “coach for life,” is that that our limited NIL has to be split two ways: (1) to buy portal players; and (2) to retain existing players.

    Evaluation of the postseason

Good analysis. I might catch some flak for this, but what the hell…yes, we won 20 games, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that 3 of those wins were over Concordia (no, maybe it was Arcadia. Concordia is my dental insurance); UMBC & Coppin. Let’s also keep in mind that our record vs the top 4 teams in the CAA (C of C, Hofstra, Drexel and UNCW) was a pedestrian 4-4. Other than DWill, the offensive stats in the tournament for the players who might be back next season are sobering. While I don’t know this for a fact, my assumption is we may not have enough assets to bring in an impact player via the portal. If we’re going to bring in more Sylla’s, Sulaiman’s, Rizzuto’s, Russell’s, then there’s not much hope. 2 questions as I see it: (1) can Skerry bring in any impact transfers; (2) can this coaching staff develop the players who are going to return? My opinion on these questions, based on the last 13 years, is probably obvious

    Stony Brook in the finals

You hit the nail on the head. We would have avoided Hofstra
  10. He’s the captain for the foreseeable future
  11. I don’t see Tarke as a PG. You may have a point about his season being sort of doomed from the beginning. If he comes back, I hope he’s coming off the bench. I’m a hard no on May coming back, and it goes beyond the airball. I think he scored 12 points in the tournament. Not 12 per game, but 12 total. Bottom line is they’ll probably both be back. Heaven help us if so, because it’ll take divine intervention for us to win with these 2 bricklayers
  12. Look, I’ve posed this question before, and I’ll do so again now…who would we want back next year from this team? The list is dwindling. IMHO, it’s down to Lowery, Tejada and Williamson. Can anyone truly say they enthusiastically want May back? Jones? Tarke? Suliaman? Coleman? Cole? (This one pains me, because I held out great hope for him, but no longer, at least not here).
  13. Agreed. He’s a kid and at the end of the day it’s just a basketball game. Having said that, I hope he has a good junior and senior season, and gets his degree…at another school. Skerry might want to bring him back, so he can work through any stigma associated with his air ball (I still can’t believe it), but I’m not sure how he does that by coming back. I guess you could say he shouldn’t run away from this & should face any demons he might have head on. I say a change of scenery and fresh start elsewhere would be best for all involved
  14. Do you mean the year 2525 (Zager and Evans)?
  15. I think it would be best for May if he had a change of scenery starting next season. It’s too simplistic to blame the loss on him, but his air ball epitomizes the futility of the Skerry era. What did he score in these 3 games, 10 points? And he was our leading scorer in the regular season. Look, it is what it is. We will NEVER beat C of C in the conference tournament. They have a million dollar NIL war chest; we maybe have 1/10th of that. Even if Kelsey leaves for greener pastures, we are saddled with Skerry in perpetuity. I’m reconciled to the fact we will not make the NCAA Tournament again in my lifetime
  16. In fairness, this “us against the world” mantra has worked so far. I’d love for him to successfully go back to the well tonight
  17. A grim vision of a dystopian future 😆. I for one am hoping for an alternate ending. Like a director’s cut, and I’m the director
  18. Hopefully not the twilight zone
  19. I agree, but I don’t think we need to have this conversation tonight. There will be plenty or time for recriminations, depending on what happens tomorrow night, but for now, let’s invoke the 24 hour rule
  20. So, what if I told you we’d have 10+ turnovers in the first half; CT would pick up two early fouls and their best player would have 18 points in the first half. Go figure. That Tejada 3 quarter length shot at the first half buzzer was just the tonic we needed. Major props to the law firm of Tejada, Williamson and Lowery. The future is now with our diaper dandies. Williamson has that skill we’ve sorely lacked for a long time, the ability to create his own shot. And if Lowery develops a serviceable jump shot in the offseason, look out. I know many, including myself, have excoriated Tarke, but if we get the last 2 games Tarke next season, we’ve got something (Skerry just needs to somehow limit his 3-point shots). Well, I didn’t think we’d get this far, hopefully we can boldly go where no other Skerry team has gone before. We’re kind of playing with house money at this point. Do I think we’ll beat C of C? Well, I wouldn’t bet my mortgage, but I guess at this point ya gotta believe. Personally, I wish we would have gotten a dunk at the end of the game. You know what they say about karma. To quote that famous philosopher, Kool Mo Dee, UNCW, how ya like us now? Survive and advance just called and said see you tomorrow night.
  21. They’ve deactivated their Twitter; and have blocked the ability to leave messages on their IG account. Also, their message board is missing in action
  22. There’s only 2 possibilities: (1) the CAA imposed the suspension; or (2) it was self imposed by Skerry. The latter seems highly unlikely. If it was mandated by the CAA, why not just say it, instead of trying to spin that it was self imposed, and was designed to put W&M in a trick bag?
  23. I don’t think it had anything to do with Flo. I think it was a subtle jab at the AD
  24. Will CT be suspended tomorrow for head butting the basket stanchion? Heckuva game (except 0-4 from 3) for Tarke. When he takes it to the tin, good things can happen. Also DWill was our microwave off the bench. No coincidence that CT’s arrival in the second half coincided with the game trending towards a L, to a double digit W. Suliaman also had a nice game. Now, OTOH, May’s shooting was woeful, again. And Jones was equally futile; his consistent misses on what are basically layups is incomprehensible. I expect us to get jacked tomorrow, but I’ll hope against hope that we can ugly it up to the extent that it’s close at the end, though close at the end usually isnt a recipe for victory for us

    CAA Tournament Preview

It’s idiotic to hold this at a neutral sight, with teams from Boston to Charleston. I guess they’re afraid to be thought of as small time if they hold it at campus sites, but they’d get much better crowds that way.
