    2019 Basketball Offers

One of many transfers we’re apparently looking at. 6’3 guard. Would be a sit one/play 2. Shot 50% from 2 last year; 35% from 3. Averaged 10.6 ppg last season. Terrible foul shooter (57%. Not much better as a freshman either). Did average about 1.5 steals per game though. He’s from Missouri, so if staying close to home is an issue, SIU would have the upper hand. Or, he may just stay at UMKC. The interest from Nevada was from Eric Mussel man's staff. Musselman is no longer the Nevada coach, having taken the Arkansas job. Btw, UMKC has ELEVEN players in the transfer portal!!!

    2019 Basketball Offers

Saw something online, team factory twitter page, that says Turner is in the 2020, not 2019, class. He is intriguing, but if he’s 2020, he might blow up & be too rich for our blood. With so many transfers out there, it’ll be interesting to see if PS goes in that direction with 1 or both of the 2 remaining scholarships for this fall.

Conversation with RA about spring practice

Thanks Mat. Always appreciate these updates. Sounds like RA is going to be brining some FBS transfers after spring semester.

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

6’8 Nate Sestina of Bucknell, has transferred to Kentucky. Averaged 16 points & 8 boards a game. From the Patriot League to UK. Probably doesn’t bode well for us getting the American U transfer, Sam Iorio. Iorio’s numbers aren’t quite the same as Sestina’s, but still....

Wow. Big loss for Drexel. Will the last player leaving the CAA please turn out the lights

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Here’s an interesting name who just announced he’s transferring: Sam Iorio from American U. Would be a sit 1/play 2. 6’’6. Has shot over 50% on 2’s both as a freshman & sophomore. Shot 43% on 3’s as a freshman, but dipped to 35% this past season. Averaged 6.5 boards per game in both freshman & sophomore seasons. Also averaged 2apg, along with 1 steal & 1 blocked shot a game this past season. Competition could be stiff & not sure if he wants to go to a school comparable to AU, in terms of academics, but he is following one of our coaches on twitter

How much time does a coaching staff have to evaluate all these guys? In other words, is there a deadline by which players have to declare they’re in the transfer portal and when is the deadline for signing players? Obviously, they have to be in class in late August, when fall semester begins, but what is the cutoff date for signing?

The moral to the story, as it relates to us, is that if/when you fire a coach, you better get an upgrade with the new hire. This guy Fischer may be the next Coach K for all I know, but on paper it’s debatable whether he’s an upgrade over Shaver, even though he’s younger.

Except she may not have gotten “her guy” (Williford for example) but may have gotten “Mr. Right Now” instead of “Mr. Right.”

Williford would have been a good hire. Frankly, if I were a W&M fan, I’d be asking myself how is this new guy an upgrade over Shaver, other than he’s younger.

New W&M coach is an assistant from George Mason named Dane Fischer. Some unhappy folks on their board, who wanted John Thompson III, Nathan Davis from Bucknell, or Jason Williford, UVA Assistant Coach. It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep any of the players who’ve entered the transfer portal

Personally, I hope he moves on. While he may not be super athletic, he can shoot from the outside & is a good passer. Maybe some NBA team will see him as a project & stash him on the bench or in the G-League for a year.

You’re probably right about Knight...unless he goes to the combine and blows the scouts away. While they are 2 entirely different players, I will simply point out that the collective response last year when Kevin Huerter declared was a snicker. Then he went & blew up at the combine and the rest is history. My point is, you never know.

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

I’m not necessarily advocating for Nolan, like my views matter to PS in any event😆 However, his local ties & the fact we apparently recruited him before makes me wonder if he’s on our radar

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Silverio is the kid transferring to Hofstra. He averaged 8ppg as a freshman at URI. Given Hofstra’s success with guards, I suspect he’ll be very good. Rumor on W&M board is the reason no new coach announced yet is because they’re going to hire UVA asst Jason Willford, & can’t announce until UVA’s season is over. I wouldn’t be surprised if 1 or more of the W&M players who’ve entered the portal stay, once they meet with the new coach. If I had to guess, I don’t see Pierce coming back, & Knight won’t either, assuming the feedback he gets from the NBA is good. The other guys, who knows?

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Here’s an interesting transfer to keep an eye on...Terry Nolan, Jr is transferring out of George Washington after 2 seasons. He’s a 6’2 guard; averaged 10.6ppg last season, though he only shot 36% from the field (he did shoot 40% as a freshman). Several points to note: he’s a Baltimore kid; we recruited him out of HS (as did Delaware, Hofstra & NE, amongst others); & he’s following one of our coaches on Twitter. 🤔

Cameron Brown, W&M’s prize recruit out of Roosevelt High in PG County, has reopened his recruitment, though he’s left the door open to staying with W&M once a new coach is hired

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

👻!!! If all these guys on other teams really do bolt, we could be in the mix next season, depending on how our new guys do (and depending on if the freshman from last season make significant strides).

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Declaring for the draft doesn’t matter in terms of whether or not he’s graduated. So, to pat myself on the back, I predicted during last regular season that he would declare for the draft. Actually, it’s a no-brainer from his perspective; if he gets a good evaluation, he’s gone; if he doesn’t, he can go back to school. It makes even more sense, considering many of his W&M teammates might not be back next season. Why risk tearing your knee up against some D3 team, especially if your own team might not be that good?

Oh, I just read the fine print. Riller hasn’t put his name in. It was an early April Fools I guess

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

I agree with TUTigers2012; the grad transfer rule has made the CAA’s of the world farm teams for high-majors & P5’s. I’d love to see numbers on how many of these grad transfers actually get a masters degree. Why cant the mid-majors band together & try to stop this? As for Riller, I’ll actually be glad if he leaves. Let’s be honest-shouldn’t our conference opponents being weakened work potentially to our benefit?

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Mat, I’m not sure what the link is between guys transferring & the commissioner not having us a TV 📺 deal. I mean, Damian Lee, Canyon Barry (& others I’m probably forgetting) transferred out before this commish, I think

    D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Not even close. I googled an found an article posted on ncaa website from 12/6/18, which reads that in 2017-18, 689 men’s D1 players transferred. There will probably be lots more transfers announced in the near future. Seems like for some of these kids, if they’re faced with a little bit of adversity & don’t get 30 minutes per game, the 1st thing they look to do is fold up their tent and transfer.

He averaged 10ppg. Not an insignificant loss for NE
