    No Spring Football

Looks like a 3-3 season for UNH. Should be enough to get them a high seed and a home playoff game.

Recapping the Louisville win 25 years ago

That was really well done. One of the best college basketball games I've ever attended. Of course, the standing is helped by the fact I rushed the floor at the buzzer. It would be great if there was a way that the athletic department could get a hold of the full game broadcast and do a Zoom thing with guys from that team watching the game and sharing their recollections of it. I'd certainly watch that.

    A non-conference game?

I wonder if that will be like the Ivy League where they play Friday-Saturday and you could do a JMU at Towson, Elon at W&M on Friday and then JMU-W&M, Elon-Towson on Saturday. I can't imagine how that's going to work with game times because the ideal situation would be afternoon game on the first day and then night game on the second but they wouldn't play on a Friday afternoon or a Sunday night (though TV would love that idea!!).

    Zane coming back to TU?

Like I said in my post, I want to be wrong. I’d love to watch him put up 15-20 a game and be the vocal leader that we have been missing since Benimon and Davis left.

    Zane coming back to TU?

I’m gonna take the unpopular contrarian stance here. I don’t like it. He left us because he thought he was gonna find greener pastures and when that didn’t work, he tucked tail and wanted to come back to his first love. That smacks of selfishness in my mind and someone who will show that selfishness on the floor. One thing that may go in his favor is that the majority of the roster wasn’t here when he was here so they won’t have experience with his personality. I hope he proves me wrong and I’ll root for him like anyone else who wears our logo on the floor. But I have a lot of reservations about this.
  6. Four's team makes the championship game with an upset over the 2-seeded Overseas Elite team and that game went about how you'd expect an upset like that would occur. I only watched the 2nd half and Four didn't play. Not sure if he was in during the first half. Championship and $1 million on the line Tuesday night against the Marquette alumni team.

I guess Dartmouth Game is now Postponed

Also makes sense from a travel perspective that a conference has a situation where Penn State will play at Nebraska and Nebraska will play at Rutgers yet Nebraska won't get to play South Dakota State at home. I agree with the tweeter that says we should get back on Maryland's schedule. It's tough to say you're going to kill games because of travel and then go 1500 miles for a conference game when there's a non-con game available 30 miles up the road.

    2020-21 Schedule

With the Ivy League making their decision about sports in the fall semester yesterday, I'd guess that Penn game on November 24 is off the board.
  9. I watched the nightcap between CP3's team and whoever their opponent was with NC's Christian Keeling going off. I admit that the idea of the Elam Ending is gimmicky but it made for a real exciting ending of that game and I can see why they'd want a game to end on a made basket rather than have a parade of free throws.

    2020-21 Schedule

After the schedule synopsis just above me, I was like, where's the Emerald Coast Classic that was posted last month? I went to their website and I see Florida, Illinois, Oregon on there. Then I click on this Heat Check CAA twitter page and he's doing a SIMULATION of a season and he had us scheduled in that tournament as a part of the SIMULATION. Spoiler, we went 7-22 in the simulation and got walloped by UNCW in the 1-8 game.

    2020-21 Schedule

That's a good grab especially since it'll be on CBSSN. So I wonder who that will put Navy against. That 2-game series had been an attractive one having gotten Carolina, Florida, and Auburn among others to show up. I saw NC-Temple and Florida-Navy a few years ago. So if we're playing St. Joe's in one game, I wonder if Navy attracted a big name to come in.

    Shame

"An amazing situation at Delaware". Yeah, and that amazing situation, if you're a part of it and lead your team to the Tournament, will get you noticed by PLENTY of scouts. But if you go to a bigger school and you don't see the star minutes there that you would have at UD, you won't get as noticed. The grass isn't always greener, kids. But hey, Delaware's loss is the CAA's gain.

    2020-21 Schedule

I think he said Wright State and not Kent State as part of that tourney in Nashville (Wright State + Valpo + one other). St. Pete will have Liberty and us and 2 others.

    Transfer Portal thread

Son of Terry Porter, the former Blazer great AND coach of your Portland Pilots. That’s right, son is skipping out on pops and apparently, it’s not the first time this has happened as older brother Franklin did it last year by taking the grad transfer route. As of this writing, Terry is still the coach at Portland.

And there you have it...a spot has opened up

And it'll be interesting to see just how damaging those other circumstances will be once those other schools learn them.

And there you have it...a spot has opened up

Because this is night #45 of no games on TV, I decided to do a little research into Skerry's transfers and how they performed at D-1 schools after they left Towson. 2011-12 Transfers -- Deon Jones (left after freshman year to Monmouth), Jervon Pressley (left after freshman year to Hampton) Jones -- at Towson -- 7.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1-31 record. at Monmouth -- 12.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 57-45 record with an NIT appearance Pressley -- at Towson -- 3.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1-31 record. at Hampton -- 6.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 56-42 record with 2 NCAA appearances (win in the First Four) and a CBI appearance 2013-14 transfer -- Four McGlynn (left after junior year to Rhode Island) McGlynn -- at Towson -- 10.5 ppg, 39.3% from 3, 37-31 record with 1 CIT appearance. at URI -- 11.6 ppg, 34.7% from 3, 17-15 record 2014-15 transfers -- Byron Hawkins (left after sophomore year to Murray State and then Bryant), AJ Astroth (left after sophomore year to Hampton) Hawkins -- at Towson -- 10.2 ppg, 37.1% FG, 32-33 record with 1 V16 (really V8) appearance. at Murray -- 7.2 ppg, 44.3% FG, 26-6 record, scored 8 points vs WVU in NCAA. at Bryant -- 11.7 ppg, 38.1% FG, 10-20 record Astroth -- at Towson -- 3.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 12-20 record. at Hampton -- 5.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 32-33 record with 1 appearance in NIT & CBI though he only played 6 games in his final year 2016-17 transfers -- Zane Martin (left after sophomore year to New Mexico), Justin Gorham (left after sophomore year to Houston) Martin -- at Towson -- 12.5 ppg, 44% FG, 38-27 record. at New Mexico -- 10.1 ppg, 41.5% FG, 19-14 record Gorham -- at Towson -- 6.3 ppg, 53.4% FG, 38-27 record. at Houston -- 3.0 ppg, 34.1% FG, 23-8 record 2018-19 transfers -- Yagizhan Selcuk (!) (left after freshman year to Montana), Allen Betrand (left after sophomore year to TBA) Selcuk -- at Towson -- 1.8 ppg, played in 5 games at Montana -- 2.5 ppg, played in 11 games Betrand -- at Towson -- 9.1 ppg, 41.5% FG, 29-35 record Yes, there were other transfers out of the program -- the Ingrams, Flashes, Hairstons, and Prophetes of the world -- but those didn't register on the sports-reference database as going to another 4-year D1 school. Of those who left, I'd say that only Jones, Pressley, and Hawkins for one year made somewhat of an upward move. At least those 3 contributed in a major postseason tournament. But did the others better their basketball situation by leaving Towson? It doesn't appear so and we certainly could have used just about all of these guys in the seasons after they left (except for that Selcuk character). You can make whatever inference you want but mine would be that the personalities just don't gel with either the team or the coach or both.

And there you have it...a spot has opened up

Big games against Delaware and Drexel and he was paving the way to be a star and then he just flames out at the end of the season and now he's gone. I remember he had a crap game against Regent and it seemed like there was something weird in that he got disinterested after that? I just don't get it. Guy can be the alpha and basically run his own team and now he's going to go thru the process again to try to find another team. I get it that nowadays, the environment across the country lends itself to kids looking to better their situation and they should but in a number of instances, I just wonder if the grass is really greener.

    20 Game Conference Schedule

UMBC -- Natural rivals and we'd play them twice a season which would inevitably tick you off. 🤣 I think it would depend on what city the conference would want to get into. They're already on Long Island with Hofstra so Stony Brook makes about as much sense as my UMBC proposal would and Elon/UNCG are pretty close to each other as well. Guessing that if they invited one for basketball, it would be someone who is already involved with football so SB and Albany seem most logical and it doesn't really add any extra miles to the travel budget. The power conferences are starting to take their cues from the Big Ten and ACC who went to 20 games after seeing how successful they were. It kinda sucks for us if we wanted to try to schedule a bigger name but from a basketball fan standpoint, I'd much rather see a Virginia-Carolina game or a Michigan State-Illinois game in late November/early December than these bought games against the likes of Radford, Longwood, Oakland, and Western Illinois. Plus, given what could happen in the fall with football season and the economy, AD's aren't going to be shelling out the cash for bought games.

    Transfer Portal thread

That's the first name on this whole thread that I'd genuinely want to see in black and gold. With the signing/commitment of Allen, that probably takes anybody else out of the running. Minlend's dad was a hell of a player at St. John's and son is pretty damn good in his own respect. I would expect a P5 team will snap him up as soon as they can.

    Transfer Portal thread

The Wiggity Wiggity WAC (way too much Kris Kross in rotation in my college days) was New Mexico State and that was it. The Aggies cruised to an undefeated record in conference and for the most part, they weren't really challenged. This is a conference that had a 4-25 Chicago State team (perennially a doormat) and all but 2 other teams below .500 for the season and one of those was 16-14. So there wasn't going to be much of a threat for any of them to pull of a non-conference upset.

    2020-21 Schedule

I've been lucky enough to attend games at all 4 locations. History oozes from the floorboards of all 4 places. Cameron and Palestra are very similar in the way the 'concourse' (more like 1960's school hallways) are constructed. It was a vast difference going to Cameron one day and then going to the Dean Dome the next. As far as crowd atmospheres, the game I saw at Cameron was a December non-con blowout and the games I've seen at the Palestra haven't been all that exciting so I haven't gotten the true feel for either place from a crowd standpoint. The one game I went to at the Phog was the last Kansas-Missouri game in the rivalry and that was off-the-charts good. It was the #1 game I'd attended up until a couple of years ago. As for Hinkle, I made sure to take a picture of the basket from floor level, just to show that they're 10 feet just like the ones back at our home gym. The game I saw at Hinkle also was a tight, loud affair and if I lived anywhere in the Indianapolis area, I'd be in that place as much as I could.

Justyn Hamilton needs A LOT of work. If you think Alex Thomas was rough to watch on offense, you should see Hamilton play. He was actually starting for Temple at the end of last year and then the beginning of this season but regressed so badly that he was hardly seeing any time by the end of the season.
  25. One of my friends has a daughter who is a senior at a D2 school and was captain of her softball team. Last night was her final game. Fortunately, the tournament they were playing in was very close to her hometown so her family could attend it. Had it been a home game, they likely wouldn't have been able to make the trip to see her. I hope that the NCAA will be able to find a way to extend the eligibility of those in the spring sports who had their seasons ended before a quarter of it could even be played. The sports landscape across the country is going to be incredibly odd over the next 30 days and who knows how much longer if things can't be contained.
