New Gymnastics Coach

Recommended Posts

I gotta believe that it's also been hard on her personally because her and the cross country coach got married and then he was let go.  A shame that the team can't fight for a top spot in the EAGL.  Wonder how their funding compares Pitt, NC State, GW etc.  Good luck to her.

Not sure about the personal stuff. I just know she couldn’t really fill the shoes of Dick Filbert, one of the greatest coaches at the school for any sport.

I assume they are underfunded compared to the P5 programs and you can’t compare our atmosphere in other sports compared to a Maryland or North Carolina. That’s why Filbert used to recruit overseas to get elite gymnasts.

Once the funding was cut by Wayne Edwards,no one could match Filberts programs, since there were significantly smaller resources.

Just an observation, JMU women sports consistently dominate the CAA.  They have a high female student population like we do, but Volleyball, Lacrosse, Softball, Soccer, Hoops, they are almost always in the top 2-3 in the conference.  Would be nice if we could improve that area as well.

No I don't.  Really just hoops and football, some lax too. But I do follow the teams/athletics on social media and can look at the standings.  JMU won national championship in lacrosse last year and have been ranked in top 25 for softball parts of the last few years.  I know most on here don't care about womens sports much (me included), but it would be nice to see an improved womens program, especially with our high female enrollments
