Football runs all over Stony Brook, 31-14

Recommended Posts

One of the best played games all year. You have to hand it to the defense. Even though they allowed 144 yards rushing, some of that came late in the game when it was over and SB was still running for some reason. QB Tyquell Fields had 77 of their 144 yards rushing mainly on trying to escape pressure. He was never sacked and Tom Flacco was sacked five times. Was he still a little banged up? Maybe, since he's not running as much though he had 13 carries and -2 yards rushing due to the sacks. But he looked a little more explosive.

Flacco also threw for 289 yards with two TDs and more importantly no picks.

2 straight wins in elimination games. D may be a sieve sometimes, but 1 constant this season is they’ve come up with a lot of INT’s. Nice to get production on the ground from our RB’s.

If we win out, we’re in the playoffs. On to Williamsburg

This team is being held together by gum or glue. Especially on offense. I think Platt may have been the only healthy running back. Flacco is still not 100% yet. He ran better today but you could tell that during the five sacks. He's usually able to get out of most of those or escape somehow. Defensively, Gibbs didn't make the trip. The D-line isn't the greatest but they did a very good job against the run. I no it's sacrilege by some on this board to say this, but Rob severely outcoached Fiore today. They were incredibly undisciplined and by going uptempo on third and short very smart. Didn't like using Platt on third and one late in the game though I guess Yeedee was limited.

The play from Flacco to Street put the game away and was one of the highlights of the year. On to Williamsburg.

JMU crushed UNH today, 54-16, giving UNH 4 L’s. UNH plays 4 loss Albany next week, so the loser is coming out of that game with 5 L’s. Meanwhile, hopefully JMU will beat Richmond next week, which would give Richmond 6 L’s. If we win in Williamsburg (which is not a given) only Nova, JMU & possibly UNH would have fewer losses than us.

Have to go 5-3 in the league. That's all that matters. This is the craziest this league has ever been since I can remember. Every team aside from JMU can be beaten or lose on any given day. I think we can still play better than we did today, but nobody can touch JMU.

5-3 in conference gets us to 8-4 overall, which = playoffs

It would be great to have the regular season finale, at home vs Elon, be a de facto play-in game. But 1st, got to handle our business vs W&M on the road

W&M will come in with a head of steam. They rolled over URI, which will never be confused with JMU but they had played just about everyone on their schedule tough. So it's an impressive win for the Tribe. They'll be psyched up and eager to knock us out of the playoffs. As for today, we had the ball nearly 40 minutes to SB's 20, so the score should have been more lopsided. Amazingly, if not for two interceptions in the end zone, the game could have been very close. We still can't sack the opponent's QB very often -- though we get close again and again. I guess that's not going to change.

We just beat a team by 17 on the road, who had taken JMU to overtime, beat Villanova on the road, and we are nitpicking because we didn't win by more?? Really?? Half our starting secondary is injured, our best linebacker has been out since the first game, and our stud transfer D-lineman played like half a game before getting hurt.

Oh, and our 1st team all-American running back/kick returner hasn't played since the first conference game of the year.

There are two games left and this team is poised to make the playoffs.  For once can the players get some credit for winning??  Who cares how many you win by. Especially on the road.
