Towson beat UNCW 67-60 on the road on Saturday night to win their first conference game (1-3) and to break an eight-game conference losing streak. As usual, the Tigers made things more difficult on themselves with 17 turnovers. They also struggled from the line, going 14-of-22. Fortunately, Allen Betrand converted all four of his free throw attempts in the final seconds and wound up with 16 points. Brian Fobbs added 16, but was 1-for-5 from the three-point line and turned the ball over three times.

The Tigers won this game on the boards, outrebounding the Seahawks 44-31. Nakye Sanders led the Tigers with nine rebounds, while Dennis Tunstall added six boards, six points and a block. Towson shot 43% from the field and held UNCW to 38%.

"We needed it obviously," said Pat Skerry on the TSN postgame interview. "Stretches where we were really careless with the ball in the second half. We responded. Allen (Betrand) made foul shots late. Numbers were great defensively and on the glass. (They were) Towson kind of numbers. Ball security. Foul shooting. Still have guys capable of shooting better. Great crowd in here. Four games in eight days. Lost some tight ones. Proud of our guys fighting and hanging in there.

"Sanders and Charles (Thompson) did a good job on Linssen. (He) Was shooting 71% from the field. Had just four points. They got Gasden back from injury. That will give them a big boost."

Beat a 2-11 team that had players quit mid year and who can’t do much well. A wins a win. Nothing today makes me think we will be out of the basement.

Happy for a win though

Yes they are bad, but Ty Gadsen returned tonight for them. He played in just his second game all year due to injuries and averaged 11.5 points per game last season. Takes some pressure off the freshman guard Phillips, who we recruited. Not saying Gadsen will make them a contender. Just a slightly better team.

Yep, you pretty much summed it up. When you shoot 43% overall, 35% from 3, 63% from the line, commit 17 TO’s & win, well, you take it & move on.

Couple thoughts-you’re correct, we won the game on the boards, with 6 players with 4 or more rebounds. Betrand was clutch at the end on the line. Fobbs is now 20-80 on the season from 3, which is 20%.  When he shoots from inside the 3-point line, he’s a 50% shooter. Our PG’s combined for 1 assist. There PG, Phillips, who we offered, scored 10 points in the 2nd half.

Overall, UNCW is pretty lousy, but at this point, a W is a W is a W. We’ve got Drexel, Delaware, JMU (all at home) & Elon (on the road) as our next 4 games. Will be interested to see our record after those 4 games

Ok, let me be a provocateur and stir the pot a bit. By any objective measure, we didn’t play well tonight, even though we came out with the W. I’m not sure tonight’s effort beats any other team in the conference, except maybe Elon.

There are 14 conference games remaining. How many conference W’s do we wind up with? I’ll set the line at 6 1/2. Who’s taking the over? The under?

Under. Caa is bad. But so are we. Close games aren’t our forte. We are entering the upswing of the skerry cycle.

Did this game look like the box score? Typical ugly slobberkock?

Well, let’s put it this way, somewhere James Naismith is turning over in his grave. From an aesthetic perspective, tonight’s game set the game of basketball back to the time when peach baskets served as the hoops.

Good to see that even a win keeps the tide of negativity flowing.  Would you have rather they lost tonite?
