2020 CAA season

Outside of the families of the players, coaches and former players, plus 600 fans, no one really cares if Towson plays football or not.  Students could care less, and that's backed up by their non attendance despite being given free admission for their hefty student fee paid to athletics.

The CAA is a hoops league, and since VCU and Mason left, it's been a bad hoops league.  One bid hell.  Given that 7 of the 12 CAA Football schools are not in the league for other sports, you could well see the CAA dropping football altogether and letting a new entity pick up the torch.  America East Football?

This is great post. Elon and wm traveling to Maine and new hampshire and vice versa is unsustainable, especially now. Caa football as we know it is on life support

The JMU boards think they should be playing in the ACC!  They are spending upwards of $43MM for a one bid/FCS conference.  That’s about to end.......

Yeah because they will leave. They have invested highly into football (see coaching salaries and stadium). Not acc but could join a new conference with Delaware, Marshall, odu, liberty, Charlotte, ecu, app state, coastal Carolina etc

Of course they wouldn't be considered for a Power 5 conference.....I don't think they have that expectation at all.  Conference USA could be a very reasonable destination for a program like JMU.  I doubt Middle Tenn or ODU are outdrawing JMU's crowds by very much.

They aren’t

With 12 schools there could be a North and South division with only 1 or 2 crossover games a year to limit travel expenses.  JMU may want to be FBS but be careful what you hope for.  Other than power 5 they could go from losing a lot of money to losing a whole lot of money.

Uh, of course.  However,  conference USA etc are going to implode.  When ODU sends it’s women’s Tennis team to North Texas.... it doesn’t work.  ODU athletics is in huge financial trouble.  JMU brings nothing to the G5 world.  Those schools don’t want to have to split more of what’s left of their TV deals with a backwater VA school.  JMU brings no media market to help boost any future TV deal. NOBODY IN THOSE CONFERENCES CARES THAT JMU CAN FILL THEIR STADIUM!  Attendance is not enough to change the dynamic for the G5’s.  It’s all about cost containment (in an arms race) with must have-P5 paydays- and the best TV deal they can get.

I would argue that JMU brings value despite its very limited media worth.  The future of college athletics will be as much of a "land grab" as it will be an "arms race".  As there will almost be a seismic shift in conference alignments and memberships, commissioners and ADs will want to add the best/most competitive schools that they possibly can.  Does JMU bring a ton of eyeballs?  No.  Does JMU field high-caliber football on a fairly regular basis? Yes.  North Dakota State could more than hold its own in FBS.  I would wager they'll be making the FBS jump in the not too distant future as well.  Is Fargo a top media market?  Not at all.  Would conferences love to have NDST's pedigree in among their schools? Absolutely.

JMU has one major problem.  They are in Harrisonburg, VA.  No TV market, which means they bring nothing to the table.  They ain't going anywhere.

That hasn't seemed to be an issue for programs like Marshall, Western Kentucky and Southern Miss that play in similarly sized, rural, markets as JMU.  Conference USA could very well be a landing spot.

So you think Towson is more marketable because we're in a big tv market?  It's doesn't really matter where you are located if no one cares about the program.Towson's season just got cancelled and there are not 15 unique responses on the topic on the only message board.

The big outrage on Twitter is the $500 athletics fee that the students would LOVE to have refunded but unfortunately nope they get access to the rock wall at Burdick so Towson gets to keep their athletic fee money.

Who pissed in your Wheaties this morning? All you talk about is how unimportant Towson football is. Bitter?

...and those schools have no interest in sharing what little tv money is out there, with another rising school. JMU won’t be able to move until there is a new conference formed.
