They don’t pay. Neither do we. Scheduling is also done 5-8 years in advance

It’s to bad we couldn’t reschedule the Maryland game for the fall would be nice to have two FBS games.

Considering making the playoffs isn’t likely and a good portion of our pay day to California will go to travel. Sure let’s pimp ourselves out for more money

Are your comments based on facts? Why are playoffs not likely?  How much are we getting to play SDSU? How much are the travel costs?  You must be “in the know”. Or are you speculating to create the worn out narrative that you’ve been pushing?  I know that you’re wrong on all accounts.

7-4 makes the playoffs. FBS, NDSU, @jmu is 0-3 so we need to go 7-1 against the remaining teams. That’s difficult. Sure it can be done but extremely though for an average program and some players who haven’t played a game in 500+ Days.

$450,000 for the game. 2 nights for a hotel (bookend if a night game or possibly two before if an earlier game due to time change) for ~50 rooms at 125 a pop (conservative) 12k. Another 20-30k for flights and add food and buses not to mention getting equipment, you are looking at a pricey venture.
this isn’t driving to uconn wvu ecu Maryland navy or wake. Nor are we getting paid like lsu and Florida did.

$60k for the trip.  $390k net = pretty good haul for an FCS team.

Sure assuming that there are no other expenses. Just doesn’t seem like the best idea to play this team all the way across the country for that pay.
could easily play an acc/aac team more local for the same money

You are assuming those local teams are willing to play +pay us. There are plenty of other FCS teams in the area looking to do the same and unfortunately, the two FBS teams in the state are not going out of their way to help us out. (Navy - sure based in MD but really a national university; UMD 💩....has never done anything for the betterment of other state schools). We don't have the sweet hook-up like the VA and NC schools.

While I agree it's no LSU or Florida game it's nice to give the team an interesting trip once a year and the entire goal is to not get half the team injured. Looking at FBS games in years past:

LSU/FL/WVU = Hi, happy to be here!
SDSU = Wake/UMD/USF/IU (could maybe win with the perfect game; likely lose but not get overly embarrassed)
UCON/Kent St/ECU = winnable...will still likely lose

I don't want to become one of those MEAC schools that travels all over the country to be a preseason SEC game just to fund their athletic department. We missed out on the playoff the LSU year because we played two FBS games.

We missed out on the playoffs thanks to that crooked AD from UNH that kept putting his team in the playoffs (for like 15 years), when they had no business being there because he had a seat on the selection committee (Marty Scarano).  We pasted UNH like 66-35 on the final game of the season to end up with the same record as them, yet they got the bid.

That LSU game was fantastic.  I wouldn't trade it for the playoffs.  We had the lead for a chunk of the game.  We rushed for more yards than ANYONE did on LSU that entire season.  We had 4 sacks vs. 0 for LSU.  We played outstanding.  Too bad we didn't get in the playoffs though, to your point, as that might have been our best team ever.  If we had Enders the next season, I think we would have won it all.  We were featured on 60 Minutes b/c of that game, we made some show like hard knocks for LSU, etc.  That was so memorable.
