MLax Wins in OT on Milani goal,, But Lose 13 of 18 Face-offs

Recommended Posts

It's going to be another tough year if we can't improve on that stat. What is it with Nads that, Woodall aside, he can't solve the X?

Finally get to see the stats. The weather was brutal. The feed didn't come in until late in the first half. Live Stats wasn't working. No feed. No audio.

So, this is the first time I'm seeing the stats, even though I watched about a half of the game. 15 shots in the first quarter? Wow. We had 42 shots despite winning just five face-offs. But only 20 shots on goal. Hopefully, that's mostly the weather. Tough game for Avanzato with five shots and no points. Greg Ey had a goal but it took him 9 shots.

The Hawks had 28 turnovers including one huge one in overtime and we had 21. Tough to play in the freezing rain and on a new turf. We were 13 of 16 on clears, they were a rough 6 of 15. Killed them on ground balls 40-33. That's great considering they won 15 face-offs.

Brody McLean with 3g, 1a. He's the best finisher. Have to ride him.

Thought defense was better. Now St. Joe's is not Virginia, but they won so many damn face-offs. It could have been uglier. Was good to see Mo Sillah back out there on LSM. John Finfrock played better a SSM. They moved Colby Barsz to close defense replacing Reagan McNemar.

We have a lot of work to do on offense. I'd like to see more of the young midfielders get some time. But that Hawks team was not bad. Not like the walkover they used to be. They beat Delaware and Drexel last season. Still should have won that game by 4-5 in regulation had we shot better and well, face-offs.

Seeing the final quarter and a half plus OT, it felt like we had a ton of chances but just couldn't finish.  Whether it was losing the ball out of the stick or shooting wide or a couple of nice saves, they couldn't quite cash in.  But the aggressiveness seemed to be there and the opportunities were there.  Just gotta finish.  The weather was rough on ballhandling and passing for both teams.  49 combined turnovers certainly indicate that.  I thought our defense played pretty solid and generated enough pressure in those rough conditions to cause turnovers.  Certainly a very tall task next week as we step up in class to take on the Dukies.
