Is JMU leaving the CAA? YES

It’s an expensive endeavor. Didn’t realize the sunbelt doesn’t have a lot of sports. Dukes are gonna have to cut some men’s sports or add women’s for the additional football scholarships. Sunbelt east is a nice conference though

Gotta love and respect what Coastal Carolina has been able to do. Was cool to see APP State beat them on a beautiful Wednesday night in Boone, NC with the fall foliage in the background. Could be a good move for JMU. I think the CAA will be more competitive without them. They ascended to a tier above everyone else. Now everyone in the league is a beatable team

Coastal is a true outlier. They were funded and coached by a millionaire. They came from relatively little fcs success prior. It all depends on coaching and the one they have now is good.
App state should be the poster child for any team moving up.

competitive? Sure I guess. caa football has been competitive for years for spots 2-8. Better? Probably not. Losing the only team with playoff success the last 4-5 years will hurt. Losing the biggest fan base will hurt. Losing their women’s programs (maybe) will hurt. Losing 50% of your attendance for a late season game every other year will hurt.

But on the other side of it… we SHOULD benefit from this and be more successful record wise on the fields and courts. We saw a slight bump when the caa lost the better programs a few years ago but that plateaued

Completely understand why JMU fans have been eager for a move up, but the competition will take a toll -- App State, Coastal, Marshall will be tough outs. Yes, that could ultimately make JMU better, but they could also wind up following ODU's path to mediocrity (at best) at the higher level.
