MBB falls to Drexel 65-61

Charles Thompson scored 18 points, but that was not enough to beat Drexel, who came back to beat the Tigers in the final seconds 65-61. With about eight seconds left in the game with Towson up one, Tre Brown was fouled by Terry Nolan Jr. and sunk both free throws. Nolan attempted a driving reverse layup with a second left but could not convert.

It was an incredibly frustrating game for the Tigers, who had three technical fouls (Juwan Gray, Cam Holden, bench) and shot just 3-of-20 from beyond the arc. Jason Gibson got the start for Antonio Rizzuto (personal) and went 1-for-9 from the field and 0-4 from beyond the arc. The Tigers also went 8-of-17 from the line as Nicolas Timberlake went 3-for-5, but missed a crucial 1-and-1 late in the game.

Towson travels to Delaware for a game on Wednesday night at 7pm.

Missing the best big all second half, 19 days off in between games, tough to win… wait what?? Awful game all around. Likely the easiest game to start caa play and played like shit. when 0, 11, 25 are consistent and actually play we are very good. When they don’t we are a bottom tier caa team.
There is no one to blame though it is what it is!

Proud of this group for representing Towson and many wins are gonna come this season.   Keep grinding guys.  Gibson and Timberlake won’t go 3-17 again and we will hopefully have Rizzuto back for Delaware.

I appreciate you desperately wanting to win and wanting accountability but this was only the first game of Conference play.  Credit to Drexel for protecting their home court.   We almost stole this one.
These guys are not Pros..  College guys.   Ease up some.   We can easily bounce back and beat Delaware.
This is a solid group with a chance to win 20 games this season.   Let’s get behind them instead of tearing them up right now. On to Delaware.

PS- None of us expected Cam to play and he gave us 14 points with a mask on.  Nolan came back for the second half and despite not getting it done he had zero turnovers and 3 steals.
CT is becoming a legit big man!

We got a good group this season.   Let it play out.

Appreciate your optimism but it’s short sighted. We have all seen this before. Different year same story. We have some nice players but dont have a go to guy.  Need good guard play and ours are inconsistent at best.

dredel without their big and off a long break.. we couldn’t take advantage of.
and yes, good for cam playing with a mask and broken jaw. That’s effort. Unfortunately we don’t have as much skill as other teams so need to rely on effort like we have for 11+ years

We still have 17 more games to play though.  A go to guy will emerge from this group.

Believe it when I see it. There isn’t a guard on this team who anyone want to have the ball In Their hands with game on the line.

We are in the “suck to start conference play” part of the skerry cycle. Welcome back everyone!!!

Gambling Twitter was really disgusted with towson tonight or maybe it was bots tutiger2012 created! Terry Nolan jr kept shooting even if he kept missing. Some are off balanced bad shots but he chucks it up with confidence. Jason Gibson could not seem to buy a bucket tonight either. Need somebody to be the alpha and pick the team up when it’s a bad shooting night. Also didn’t understand the four foul shots to end the game? Why even bother with all that? We couldn’t make a free throw tonight and were so frustrated we almost fought the other team. I’ve said it before this team has balls but lacks brains at times!

No excuses. They hadn't played since Dec. 14. We both were missing key players. Yes, Cam Holden gutted it out with a mask and did about as well as you could expect with 14 and 5 with a fractured jaw. You could see had some trouble dribble at times and he couldn't shoot free throws (0-2). But still has the old school back to the basket game.

Speaking of back-to-the-basket. When you are shooting 3-of-20 from three, maybe it's time to go to Thompson and Holden more towards the end of the game. Not go Terry Nolan launching 3-pointers with 2 seconds on the shot clock. You're up 1 or 3, not 15. You need to feed the bigs especially with Butler out and their 6-10 guy out.

Really not thrilled with anybody aside from CT. Nolan took some terrible shots early and played hero ball late. However, his defense (3 steals) was missed when he missed the first six of seven minutes of the second half due to some minor injury issue. It just wasn't Gibby's night and not sure what the issue is with his mid-range shots. They were giving him those shots early, not three-pointers. Not going to go through each player. Obviously missed Rizzuto and hope to have him Wed.
