Cam Holden scored 18 points and grabbed 10 boards to lead Towson (1-1 CAA) to their first conference win of the season over a depleted Northeastern team on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies were playing without head coach Bill Coen and most of his staff along with Shaquille Walters (12.9ppg, 5.1 rpg) and Tyreek Scott-Grayson (12.3ppg, 5.3rpg). Towson lost starting point guard Terry Nolan early in the game (he played five minutes) for an undisclosed injury.

Holden, Juwan Gray (12pts, 7rebs) and Charles Thompson (13pts, 7 rebs) stepped up as the guard play was erratic with Nolan out. The Tigers had just nine assists and 13 turnovers with Nolan getting two of the assists. Senior guard Antonio Rizzuto, who missed the Drexel game, had seven points in 25 minutes, but went just 1-of-8 from three-point range. Towson had another poor three-point shooting night (6-of-20). Defensively, they held the Huskies to 40% shooting and outrebounded them by five.

Here are some quotes from head coach Pat Skerry after the game on FloSports:

"No easy nights in this league. They are missing guys. We lost guys. Crazy times. Billy Coen, not sure if he's sick. Hope he's ok. Guys hung in there. Charles and Cam were terrific around the rim. They are big. We did do a good job on rebounding."

"We have to play better for longer stretches. Play when we're tired. We have to better job trailing screens. Esp when we lose bodies. No easy ones. We didn't kill it from 3 and had a lot of good looks. Holden gave us a great spurt in the second half. We can't lose him, tell you that. (Holden). Good win. Going to be a quick turnaround. Hofstra is small, fast. We have to lean on our guys that have been here. Juwan was good. We have lean on older guys."

On veterans
"Nick has to be locked on in both ends of the floor. That has been subpar the last couple of games. He's capable of doing it and did in the first group of games (non-conference)."

Other team sans their top two players, head coaches and other assistants and we squeak out a win. Nolan missing hurt but this isn’t a confidence instiller game for sure.  Our guards sucked, Thats me being nice.  Gray Holden and Thompson carried us today.

BTW. Thoroughly enjoyed the women's broadcast today in their dominance of W&M. The guard duo of Aleah Nelson and Kylie Kornegay-Lucas is going to be great in the CAA. They've lost just once this year and that was to NC State.

Women’s team might be dancing in March! Men’s team got the W but it wasn’t pretty towards the end. We have to learn how to close the door on teams. Can’t falter while playing stall ball. I thought pat looked pretty disgruntled with the performance. Gotta get better as the season goes on. Hope terry is ok

A W is a W; not our fault NE was depleted. But If Nolan is out, we’re in deep doo. Timberlake is in a funk in conference play so far, Rizzuto, imho has been a disappointment so far. The 2 of them shot 6-19 today. Hicks & Paar are good for about 0 ppg. Holden can’t do it all by himself.

We always seem to let the gas off the pedal in conference games. Like all the hard work they do in non conf is meaningless.

Wonder whats up with Nick? Is it mental? He has the killer instinct but surprised to see him not following thru in conference play.

Hicks is not there for his scoring. I thought he was terrific on D. Paar has to stop turning the ball over. Had three in the first half when he put the ball on the floor and none in the second, but he is certainly capable of 5pts and 5rebs. If not, go with Biekeu. I don't know what the issue was with Nolan. We certainly need his playmaking ability. He has been incredible with his assist-to-turnover ratio. You just don't get that from Gibson or Hicks. He's 18th

Just had two bad games. Not sure if he's pressing. Played very well in non-conference play. Rizzuto is certainly capable and I'll give him some of the benefit of the doubt considering he missed the Drexel game.
