2022-23 Transfer Portal

If a player doesn’t enter the portal by the May 1 deadline, they won’t be eligible for the 2022-23 season.  The deadline only relates to entering the portal, so a player doesn’t have to find a new home by May 1.

Was mistaken. So is there an official deadline to “commit” to a new school or just throughout the spring they can?

Fascinating to me that guys are still trickling into the portal, notwithstanding that the season has been over for more than 3 weeks, in terms of the National Championship game. In point of fact, for some teams, the season has been over for close to 2 months, counting from when many teams had their season end in conference tournaments which took place in early March.

I think a bunch of that has to do with coaching changes and timing of them. Example: FDU just parted ways with their HC. Tough look for those kids to make a decision in a couple days..

Oh, no doubt that there are extenuating circumstances, in some cases, as to why guys enter the portal at the 11th hour. Other cases, not so much. It almost becomes a game of chicken to some extent, in terms of how long schools can hold spots open, in the hopes of supersizing their meal, so to speak, versus signing a guy who is already in the portal, even though maybe a more talented player will enter later

Hard not to be excited about the prospects for next season. All key 🔑 players (Timberlake, CT and Cam back) + addition of a potentially legit PG & this recent addition. Now Skerry can be patient in terms of filling the 3rd open ship-either a big to backup CT (Paar just isn’t that guy, barring substantial improvement in the off-season) or a guy who can knock down outside shots and/or create off the dribble (of course, who wouldn’t want that type of player 😆)

Kudos to Skerry. Things looking good on paper

The last ship should be a young transfer and hopefully a wing. The good news is that Cam and Sekou are versatile. You can play both at the three and Cam can play the point or two. Sylla is 6-5 220 with a 6-11 wingspan so he can play the post. Even some center in a small lineup

I like what I’m seeing so far. Lots of interesting pieces with the transfers and incoming freshmen. Could be another deep team who can score! Gotta love how much fun they were to watch this past season. Hopefully even more fun to be had with the squad that’s returning. We could be Maryland’s best basketball school, why not us!?
