Football comes back to beat Stony Brook on the road 21-17

Recommended Posts

Was truly an ugly win, but Tyrell Pigrome was brilliant in the last drive for Towson, taking them from 87 yards in 11 plays in 1:36 capped off by a Devin Matthews four-yard run for a TD. For some reason. Stony Brook settle for a short field goal to take a 17-14 lead and Pigrome got the job done. The big play on the drive occurred when Towson had a 4th-and-6th (after a key drop) and Pigrome ran it himself for 27 yards. Instead of settling for a game-tying FG, Pigrome hit DK James at the one-yard line to set up the game-winner without a minute left.

For some reason, Towson's defense decided to play prevent all the way downfield (even in the red zone), rushing three and the Seawolves had a chance to win the game with no timeouts. However, an Oly Okombi sack at the Towson 13 and a Robert Javier pass breakup in the end zone saved the day.

It was a sloppily-played game by both teams. Towson had 7 penalties for 65 yards including one with too many men in the huddle and a penalty on head coach Rob Ambrose (his second of the season).

Pigrome threw for 255 yards and totaled over 300 yards of total offense with two TD passes and no turnovers. The offense ran for just 122 yards on 32 attempts. The defense gave up two big plays for TDs (due to a missed tackle and a slip in coverage). However, Xavier Terry had a key interception in the red zone and the Tigers had three sacks.

Give credit where credit’s due-3rd straight W, with a chance to finish the season with a winning record. W’s still count against bad teams.

Pigrome did a great job on the last drive. He almost turned that 4th & 6 scramble into a long TD run, then made several nice passes on the drive. There’s a reason Stony Brook is now 2-8. Their

QB threw a terrible INT deep in our territory at the end of the 1st half, then they played super conservatively, settling for a FG which put them up 17-14. Even with that, they drove over 60 yards in less than a minute, with no timeouts, to nearly pull off the win, but for a broken up pass by our DB on the last play of the game.

You have to give the team and Rob credit over the last few weeks.  The Tigers have looked a ton better and been competitive and /or dominant (Villanova).  Where was this all season though?  We looked miserable the first 5 games of the year and not sure why it took until a month ago to turn the ship around.

It helps to play bad teams. Villanova is not ver good right now. Stony Brook is terrible. Monmouth is terrible on D and great on O. Delaware, Elon, UNH and W&M are all pretty good. Nobody is great but it takes so long because a brand new offensive line and too many new players

Nova got crushed by W&M today, 45-12. The combined record of the 5 teams we’ve beaten is 16-33

The combined record of the 5 teams we’ve lost to is 35-16
