Towson jumped out to a 10-5 lead early against Fairfield, who responded very well and led through most of the game. The Tigers tied it several times, but couldn't make the big shot when needed. They fall to 5-1, while the Stags improve to 1-4.

This was a game where Towson just seemed flat to open up and Nicolas Timberlake continued his struggles from long range, making just 1 of 6. He did finish with 15 points and Cam Holden led with 18 points with five boards. But Towson's poor three-point defense as they allowed Fairfield to shoot 12 of 26 from beyond the arc and 50% overall. Towson shot 44.4% from the field and just 3 of 13 from beyond the arc. Jason Gibson (back) missed his third straight game.

Towson will play South Alabama on Saturday at 2:30pm, followed by a game against Mercer on Sunday at 5pm from Savannah.

Here are some quotes from Pat Skerry after the game on TSN:

"Credit to Fairfield. They were sharper than us early on. We were running in mud. Like that our guys hung in there. We didn't finish well at the rim. We didn't take a lot of 3s. Our defense has been bad as it's been all year. Learn some things about ourselves."

"Have to play more guys tomorrow. Hicks' ankle is bothering him. Cam got poked in the eye. Effort was goo. Execution from some of our older guys was not where it needs to be. Contesting shots. Post feeds. We were a tick off mentally. We have to get that rectified."

"Sloppy (20 sec-violation at the end). You make your own breaks. Our guys will bounce back. Playing a talented South Alabama team tomorrow. We'll be a bit banged up. A challenge for our performance staff."

No alpha and no point guard year 8?
Lots of nice role players but no go to guy hurts again. 5 guys who combined for 15 a game drop 47 on us.  Embarrassing effort today.

Thank god Fairfield kept us in this one. They had open shot after open shot pretty much all game. Also shot poorly from the line in the first. That along with some late turnovers, this one could have been a 15-20 point beat down.

Very disappointing effort. Didn't expect to go undefeated and assumed we'd have a loss somewhere in this tournament. No Gibson doesn't explain the porous defense in the first half and then the bad 3-point defense (mostly Nic) in the second half. Towson had to go strictly to a full-court zone press, which only really forced a turnover or two, but sped them up some.

Last possession with Nic passing that to Sylla, we only had 20 seconds on the clock despite Timberlake forcing a change (in the frontcourt). So when Sylla missed everything on that drive. it was a shotclock violation. Need to take more than 13 threes. Need CT to make those 5-foot post up jump hooks he was making in CAA play. Also went 1 of 4 from the line in the first half. Didn't see the focus early on and they deserved the loss. Fairfield just got more confidence as the game went on and they deserved their first win. Hicks played just 21 minutes apparently because he's still struggling with that sprained ankle. We went big a lot with Holden and Timberlake in the backcourt, which is not ideal IMO. Would prefer to see more Conway because at some point, he's going to get hot, hit a few 3s in a row and that will get the team going.

Still, you'd like our seniors to be a little more consistent with their production while helping the youngsters out. I think you see it at times where Nic gets the ball in the corner and would normally make that extra pass to Gibson. Well, he's not there and not sure he trusts Conway yet (I think he does, but not Hicks).

One bright note was the play of Chase Paar. He's in better shape this year and maybe he's ready to give us 10-15 minutes per game at the 5. Just needs to be healthy.

Andrew constant…now there’s a name LOL.

But he isn’t wrong.  We don’t have the players to win nor the coaching. Bunch of nice pieces 3-9 guys on depth chart but no game changers
