2023-24 Transfer Thread

Still some good players out there, but feels like the top names on our initial wish list are starting to dwindle. Are Watson and Blakney the primary targets at this point, or are their others out there we are refocusing on as we move forward? We know we are probably getting two more players, and it remains the case that I am interested to see who sits on our chair after the transfer portal music stops.

I don’t know if Blackney and Watson are the top two targets, but I assume they are still in the mix. I know there are quality players left and if I’m PS, I’m focusing on players who are not looking for immediate help in terms of NIL. That would likely leave out any P5/6 guys like Martinez or big mid major scorers like Dingle from Penn.

Yeah, I figured a guy like Martinez is out of our league in terms of what he is looking for. I saw today that Dingle is going to St. John's. The list you posted earlier is great and I have been tracking on my own (I keep waiting for Jeff Goodman to update his list as well because it is good database for what our league looks like with who is in and out). I know the list we have been posting on here is not really accurate any more as guys come and go, but it is helpful for me to track who is in even left even if we are not going after them. I am going to post later today or tomorrow just as a reset from my standpoint.

I was looking at our news releases from last year and we announced Nygal a year ago today and Conway the week before. I know the official announcements are usually a week or so after it actually happens. I am sure we are all (as is the coaching staff) getting impatient. I do think the later the process goes the more likely it is that we are getting role guys who can contribute in small ways. I really thought Riley could have been a difference makes, as it seems like Settle could have been as well.

I wonder if now that the deadline for declaring and not having to get a waiver is over if some of the players who have been sitting out there for months will start to make their moves.

I was intrigued with Settle’s length, but he’s a piece of the puzzle. Watson could give you nearly what Timberlake gave offensively.  RJ is more a long defender, but one that is needed.

I know I have beaten a dead horse, but I was really excited to see what Riley's athleticism could do in this conference. Plus, I think when I look at these guys (especially the high major players) I look to see what situation they have come from at their previous school.

I liked that Settle was part of a Howard team that made history and got the the program back to the tournament. I liked Riley, because I saw flashes of what he could do and he was so poorly used by Ewing I thought he could do big things in a system where a coach let him be a featured player. I still feel like someone like Riley can benefit by showcasing his abilities a lot more here at this level than being another player at a little higher of a level, but Temple seems to be a doing a good job in the portal and I am sure he will get a good shot with them.

Austin Williams, 6-4, 200. Just transferred. Should be a grad transfer since he spent four seasons at Hartford. Never played last season at FIU. Not sure why. Can score and dish the ball.

All quiet on the western front…?

They are keeping it quiet. Still plenty of options out there, but not sure who we're after aside from Blackney and Watson.

I remember him from previous season at Hartford.   Had like 16 a game.  Shared the ball.  Not bad at all
