2023-24 Transfer Thread

I think I’ve cracked the code. “Received interest from” = being followed on twitter, as 1 of our assistant coaches follows this guy. Without more (and I don’t know if there’s more in this guy’s case or not) I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say a school is “interested” in you, at least in any meaningful sense. But I get it. We all want to feel wanted (except if it’s “wanted by the law” 😆). This young man seems to be another in a seemingly endless line of guys whose addition to our team would make little, if any, sense. Btw, I didn’t know Southern New Hampshire U actually has sports teams. I thought they were just an online diploma mill. Go figure.

Let's update this with those wing targets who are available that we might be interested in (following on Twitter, or are listed in Transfer Portal sites). Blakney was supposed to commit soon.  Not including point guards or post players or D2/Juco:

Nendah Tarke (Coppin State) 6-4, 205

Austin Williams (FIU/Hartford), 6-4, 200

Kam Woods (NC A&T), 6-2, 185 (point guard who shoots a lot, not likely interested)

Jovan Stulic (Arkansas Little Rock) – 6-6, 215 – played four games in 2022-23. 7.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 51.4% (76-148) FG, 43.8% (42-96) 3pt FG in 2021-22

Stephon Payne III (Incarnate Word) – 6-9, 210 – 6.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.3 blpg, 1.0 spg, 49.3% (68-138) FG (Jacksonville commit)

Dee Barnes (Southern Utah) – 6-4, 193 – 6.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 50% (82-164) FG, 43.8% (39-89) 3pt FG

Marko Maletic (Long Island) – 6-6, 208 – 15.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 43.2% (136-315) FG, 38.8% (69-138) 3pt FG 23-48 (Asst-TO)

Marcus Watson (NC A&T) – 6-6, 235 – 14.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 41.5% (165-398), 28.4% (44-155) 3pt FG, 60-100 (Asst-TO)

R.J. Blakney (Dayton) 6-6, 195 – 6.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 44.0% (62-141), 24.2% (16-66) 3pt FG, 36-35 (Asst-TO)

De'Sean Allen-Eikens (CSNU) 6-6, 215 – 11.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 40-55 Asst-TO, 45.4% FG, 31.5% (23-73) 3pt FG (committed to Cal State Northridge)

Pavo Pavlidis (Hartford) 6-8, 220 – 8.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 56.9% (95-167), 8-33 3pt FG, 1.3 blpg (committed to Stonehill)

Had him this season. Kid can play.

Good size, but not a great athlete though. Not sure he's quick enough for a D1 wing. Looks like he needed a year in the weight room and then could play both forward spots. Not a great three-point shooter (31%). Not sure how he gets his shot off at the next level. Now the Guillory kid is a ridiculous athlete, but irrelevant as a 3-point shooter (5 of 35). The better options are dwindling.

I know watching 2-3 minute highlight packages don't show everything, but you get a glimpse of what type of player we may be looking at.

Let’s see a show of hands of everybody who thinks we’re beating out Seton Hall, if it comes down to NIL.

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. My guess is that this is why Blakney hasn’t committed yet. He’s waiting for this guy to leave us at the altar, then he’ll sign with us, bringing his scintillating 6ppg avg with him.

Shaping up like a very underwhelming off-season. Unless/until we get some NIL sugar daddies, this is the new normal; scrapping for D2/JUCO or D1 transfers who avg’d 6ppg at their last stop. Yippee 🥹
