Hall of Fame Snubs or Futures Inductees

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about this the other day. While I have no real clue about other sports other than football, men's basketball and men's lacrosse, I do have an opinion about other sports including baseball, gymnastics, volleyball and women's lacrosse. Let's face it, the reason Kacy Catanzaro is going into the TUHOF this fall because she was an outstanding gymnast. It also doesn't hurt that she currently wrestles for the WWE ($).

These are the rules below and remember that graduation is no longer a requirement. Thought about that when Richie Palacios hit a home run for Tampa Bay today against the Yankees and that he should be a no-brainer when he's eligible in 2028. Same with Casper Wells (2005), but for some reason, the pitcher/OF, who spent four seasons in the big leagues is not in the HOF.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
A selection committee consisting of the Athletics Director or at least one designee, the committee chair (HOF president), a communications historian, a former coach or administrator of significant tenure and at least six current Hall of Fame members of diverse affiliation shall meet annually during the month of February to elect a maximum of four (4) inductees. Exceptions to the rule of four (4) inductees may be approved by the committee’s majority vote (50 per cent constitutes a majority). At the meeting, in rank-order voting, each committee member shall develop a list of 10 maximum nominees, ranking highest to lowest numerically, with the top aggregate point totals constituting that year’s induction class. Additionally, a past team whose performance resulted in a championship title, earned it post-season playoff opportunities or brought national attention to its program, may be considered for induction as a Team of Distinction.

Football: No-brainers

Should be in: RB Darius Victor (41 TDs, 2nd to T-West, 3,309 yds, 3rd-all time). Grad 2016. Should be eligible in 2026

RB Jason Corle (2nd all-time rusher 3,601 yds, 1996-99, 33 TDs 3rd all-time, 188 catches, 3rd all-time). Why is Corle not in? He played partially in the non-scholarship period for football, but also played in the Patriot League.

DE Frank Beltre (2009-12) Third-team AA in 2012. First-team All-Conference in 2012, 2011, third team in 2010.

Men's Basketball

With Jerrelle Benimon going in this year, the only snubs in my lifetime would be guards Ralph Blalock and Terrance Jacobs. The locks who are not eligible yet are obvious: Nick Timberlake, Charles Thompson and Cam Holden. We know their accolades and that led to wins on the floor.

Blalock (1992-96). Was 6-2, 205. Rarely played as a freshman, he has 1,498 points, just 29 points ahead of Bill Leonard (HOFer). Top five all-time three-point percentage (40%), 8th all-time in field goal percentage (50.2%). Led team team in scoring with 17.1 points in 1995-96 and 17.3 points in 1994-95. First-team all conference in the Big South as a junior and second team Big-South as a sophomore. First-team All-NAC (North Atlantic Conference as senior).

Terrance Jacobs (1990-92). Allegany CC transfer. ranked 10th-all time with 122 steals in two years. "TJ" was ECC Player of the Year as a senior and led the CAA with 7.9 rebounds as a 6-3 guard. Helped Towson to win two straight ECC titles. Averaged 15.9ppg as a junior. Shot 48.5% from the field. One of the toughest defenders of all time. Played one season at ODU.

Terrance “Scooter” Alexander 1991-96 I’ll have stats later but numbers and defensive ability should be in.

Bubble

Guard Brian Fobbs scored 1,083 points in two seasons (2018-20). Earned all-CAA second team in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
