No excuses for football with JMU gone and Delaware leaving.

What conference would you really want towson to move to?

There isn't one right now. And that's a big problem. After the recent defections, you would think WM and Charleston want out, UNCW possibly too. Those three could find homes much easier than we can, due to; academics, or basketball

we'd need someone to actually take us but these having mostly state schools around 20k in students

FBS:
CUSA - follow our old BFF UD. not the best geo but likely the easiest to get in.
Sun Belt - old CAA friends. JMU, Georgia State, ODU. Coastal we used to play in non conference a decent amount. East division is a good fit
MAC - likely a dream but they are adding UMass - stilling at 13 members so could look east. Likely UD is next, then we maybe just could help round out an eastern division. MAC likely takes someone from the SunBelt or CUSA and our best chance to replace them there until maybe the MAC goes to 16.

FCS:
Need to get more creative but basically need to form a breakaway league that is full membership not a football only things to get away from our terrible league leadership. needs to be some combo of the best schools from the CAA football, the Big South/OVC, and Missouri Valley Football

the Pac 12, Mountain West mess could be good a opportunity for us if we are prepared. sadly I doubt we are.

UD likely goes to the MAC if they lose Toledo or NIU; pairs with Umass.
Sun Belt could also take UD if they lose Texas State. would make the divisions weird but all the old CAA friends are there.
CUSA would be our landing spot but also the worst fit. So would need to see it as a temporary stepping stone IMO and not get caught up on traveling to New Mexico long-term

I would like to see us target an eastern division of the MAC long term. The schools are the most like us, all state schools, mostly R2, which we are trying to become.

Hope that you are talking about moving football only. All these realignments that makes zero geographic sense are ruining all other sports.
Even in this scenario how do we pay the $5 million fee?  How do we pay for additional 22 scholarships?  How do we pay the additional money for travel and planes?  Sure we can get beat twice by big ten teams for around 1 million more than we are getting in the fcs.

not saying any of this conference realignment makes sense but I doubt anyone will take any schools as football only unless something major happens like the SEC and Big 12 leaving the NCAA and sanity returns to college conferences. what I am saying is we shouldn't be caught flat-footed while the CAA and FCS football continue to die a slow death.

the costs are not ideal but other schools have found a way to figure out the costs. likely student fees would be the route - major state funding and a focus on it being important for university prestige would help a lot.

a MAC east division (that included UD and UMass) would be the most ideal fit for us - could be all bus rides. between Charleston in basketball and Maine in football travel is not that close in the CAA already. (both 10 hours from Towson). NIU would be ~12 hour driving from towson as the farthest away MAC school

Towson
Delaware
Umass
Buffalo
Kent
Akron
Ohio
NOVA football only, Youngstown, or some other CAA school smart enough to try what we should try. (W&M, Albany or Stony Brook)

Toledo
Bowling Green
Ball State
Miami
Western
Eastern
Central
NIU (if they don't join the PAC 12 or MW)

none of this is going to happen but I wish it would and we were better prepared for this decade of conference realignment shenanigans

Delaware is going to Conference USA next season. They’re losing UTEP to the MWC and hopefully New Mexico State.

there is some chatter on Twitter around us making a move, but only time will tell! Gotta win the Coastal before it’s gone!

They are just assuming we’ll join CUSA due to their losses. I don’t see it happening now but potentially in the future. We can’t hang around the depleted CAA forever.

right - but for how long is Delaware going to really stay in CUSA? losing UTEP and New Mexico state helps CUSA look better but you know they've got to be thinking of it only as a stepping stone. Still going to be traveling to SHSU and FIU.

Ideally, we would be doing the same.   Yes, you are going to have some random games that makes no sense but it's the price to get out of the cluster f of the CAA with the hopes of a more aligned future.

Exactly! Do I want CUSA, no, not forever, but it's better than what we have now.
