Cincinnati Football Thread

Recommended Posts

It's Cincy week. Like us, they are starting (presumably) a new starting quarterback. Brendan Sorsby, an Indiana transfer, started seven games in two seasons. He threw for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2023.

I started following UC’s football program on Instagram about a month ago to get a feel for how their summer camp was going. They definitely have some beasts. Granted, 20 second instagram stories can be made to look impressive but in all reality this team has some stud athletes as you would expect from a Big 12 program.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I’m most concerned about our smaller/shorter d-line against their experienced and huge OL.  Would not be surprised if they rush for 250+ on us.

However, I also wouldn’t be surprised if they sleep on us early and we break off a few big chunk plays and maybe make it interesting in the first half.

Regardless of what happens, I can’t wait for the season to begin.  Got myself some new Towson swag to wear….I’m making the trip and will be in attendance this Saturday at Nippert. Go Tigers!!

Looking just at heights and weights we got some 300+ pounders just like they do! Speed may be the difference maker in this one. Hopefully we can hang around and prevent penalties. We have some athletes, good kicker, qb, running back, wr’s. Just need the defense to be able to come up with some stops. Dion crews Harris, Daniel Raymond, and Evan rutkowski are gonna need to play like all Americans

I’d like to think we know more than DraftKings when it comes to towson

can we cover 30.5 points week one?

i think so!

Their last 5 games against an FCS team had an average margin of victory of 46.5. Enjoy some Skyline and get out of the "Other" Queen City alive and not show any of our playbook on film. We will need that for the big week two matchup for Greater Baltimore County Battle!

This has little to with Cincinnati, but in 16 games against FBS competition (since 2008) we have lost by an average of 29.5 ppg with a 1-15 record. West Virginia jacked that way up by beating us by 58 and 54 points in our two meetings with them. There have been seven games where we would have covered as -30.5 point underdogs against Navy (lost by 28 in 2008), Maryland (lost by 25 in 2011), Kent State (lost by 20 in 2012), LSU (lost by 16 in 2012), UConn (won by 15 in 2013), East Carolina (lost by eight in 2015), and San Diego State (lost by 27 in 2021). The opponent would have covered -30.5 in six of our last seven matchups against FBS schools, and seven of the last nine.

Cincinnati has played 16 games against the FCS in that timeframe and has won them by an averaged of 40.5 ppg. They have won by 35+ the last five times, including three by 50 points or more. None of that means anything, but I figured it was somewhat relevant.

I thought we played Maryland decently tough foremost of the game last year. I feel like we have been smoked a lot recently, although I do have recollections of our defense playing Florida fairly tough for a good part of the 2015 game.
