Nice performance from Carlos Davis in his first start, throwing for 231 yards (20-of-36) and the TIgers ran for 194 yards. Defense was another story with three true freshmen starting (LB Alfred Thomas, CB Emiriil Gant,  S Jason Shiggs played a lot). Injuries to DE Nchanbanu Fortaboh and CB Myles Brodie were devastating. Hopefully at least one returns against Morgan State. Back end was bad. Linebackers not great either but I think there's some talent there that needs to matriculate and they also need some injured guys back.

I don't hate it, some hand scratching decisions (like the play calling where the drive stalled at their 2 yard line). But like what I saw from Davis and co. Covered the spread easy, which I can't say I expected.

Kudos to the coaching staff for at least having the team compete through three quarters. At one point, it was 28-20 late in the third quarter, but on the next play, the defense gave up a 64-yard TD run from Evan Pryor.

After that, we just ran the ball, bled the clock and nobody scored in the fourth quarter. I understand (I think) running the football when you're down 18 in the fourth quarter, but if this wasn't an FBS squad, I'd be a little more pissed. We were cramping up on both sides of the ball and appeared fatigue. Earlier in the game, thought the play-calling was bizarre when they went no fullback at the three yard line and went Matthews three straight carries up the middle. If Towson scores there, then it might be a different game. A bootleg? We used Dion Crews-Harris as a FB last season in those situations. Not sure why we didn't at the three.

But overall, this is a better team because of Carlos Davis. I know he wanted a few throws back and probably held the ball a bit too long, but his ability to make throws on the run and his arm strength makes this team better. Didn't see any RPO, which was probably a good thing the way that team hits. Not sure if that will be part of the offense or not. I'd like to see it on occasion. We have good weapons at WR. Jaceon Doss from Fresno State? Nice pickup late in the summer as he took it 76 yards on a slant and Davis laid it in there nicely. John Dunmore? The Oregon State transfer makes a difference.  Carter Runyon is probably not 100% but he also saw a lot of double teams. Get used to it. Londono was banged up early on. Hopefully he's ok but we have Sam Reynolds who can play the slot and is a burner. DK James is a strong intermediate guy who can move the chains.

The O-line was very good today and that's our strength. To run for nearly 200 yards and threw for 231 against a Big 12 defense is partially due to that line. Experience and Averaging well over 310 pounds. That's our strength. Three good backs in Matthews, Watson and Greene help.

Definitely a lot better FBS performance than last season and in recent performances.

FWIW, Cincinnati fans were melting down on Twitter and calling for the coach to be fired at halftime. Time will tell if the Bearcats are any good but I came out of this game feeling optimistic about our season.

Just a couple random thoughts: I think it’s safe to say our offense is much improved from last year, both at QB & skill players; despite “only” giving up 38 points (Cincy could have scored a TD at the end, but took a knee) the D was pretty much a sieve most of the game. I didn’t see any semblance of a pass rush & there was some suspect tackling. Was this a function of the talent level of Cincy or our own deficiencies. Probably a combo of the two; I could see us as a playoff team, but, with another automatic L looming in Fargo, the margin is thin. We’d probably have to go 8-2 in our remaining games, after we lose to NDSU; I hope we got out of yesterday without any season ending injuries

For me… I don’t care if Cincinnati is any good this year! We do know that they are a Big12 program with some 4&5 star transfer talent(Buckeye 2 deep)

,This is football, and any time a team with 63 scholarships steps on a field and competes with a team with 85…. That’s a win.

Folks, this ain’t basketball, tennis or Cornhole.  You gettin’ touched for 60 minutes.  You gotta run and tackle…and get up and do it again.
Team and staff left points on the field.  We blocked ( lifted and drove) them down the field. DL got penetration and shut down running lanes.  In the trenches … they competed.  Towson made Mistakes …lots ..and it showed.  Gotta get better with scheme ,  execution and improve.

Yes, I neglected to mention this in my previous post. What if we hadn’t left those 11 points on the field that we did in the first half?🤔

College football obviously could use one preseason game as I saw a ton of sloppiness across the league.
That last Texas A&M drive 🫣

Time will tell but I’m excited to watch this Towson offense every week and I couldn’t say that in the past.

I’m really excited to see this offense against FCS teams. Lots of potential there and I think Davis is going to end up being a great addition. I agree that he held onto the ball too long at times today and was maybe trying to do a little more than what was necessary. Time will tell how good the Bearcats are, but I’m certainly not going to dismiss 438 yards of total offense. Just need to clean some things up like finishing drives - not getting points on the goal line was a bit deflating.

Defense needs a lot of work, particularly in the secondary, but I have to imagine that most of those issues won’t be as glaring in conference play. Maybe we just plan for shootouts every game. It’s obviously hard to judge how good a defense is when they’re outmatched with size, speed, etc.

Pumped about this season. Go Tigers!
