Football falls to No. 5 Villanova 14-13

sorry if I missed this but I really don't understand the QB situation. what happened to Davis and Kent? Is Davis more hurt than we thought? Kent was the starter last year and took the last drive vs Morgan. I don't understand how we go right to QB3.

Davis was injured and not ready to play. Brown outplayed Kent in practice and they gave him the job. Didn’t make a lot of sense on paper but Brown played pretty well and was much better than Kent was last season against the Wildcats.

If Londono catches that TD pass, we’d be talking about whether Brown should keep the QB job over Davis.

The thing that galls me about Saturday was how we squandered an opportunity to set ourselves up for a legit chance at the playoffs. We’d be 2-1, with an impressive W vs a top 5 FCS team, on the road. We would have “only” had to have gone 6-3 the rest of the way to finish 8-4, which almost certainly would have guaranteed a playoff berth. Now, we likely have to go 7-2 the rest of the season. Really, 7-1, as this coming Saturday is a guaranteed L on the road at NDSU. At 1-3, there will be very little margin for error.

Brown was very solid. Kent was good at times last year. I know none of these guys are superstars, but it led me to thinking when was the last time our QB room actually had depth like this. The best I could come up with 2011 when we had both Grant Enders and Athens on the roster. Athens didn't do much that year or 2012, but when you look at what he did in the 2013 and what Enders did in 2011 that was the most talent I can think of in the QB room. Kevin Smith and Joe Lee between 1996-98 looked like one when I was scanning the record books, but I don't remember thinking that in real time.

I don't think there is much hope this week either, but the NDSU fans are pretty negative about the fact that they probably should have lost to the preseason No. 6 SoCon team (ETSU) last week. Of course, that is the difference between their program and our program. They do everything they can to lose and end up luckily winning, and we do everything we can to win and end up losing.

got it. think Davis will be back this week? I know we had a ton of missed opportunities and drops but you can't win putting up only 13 points. Gotta get into the end zone vs putting it in the hands of a kicker. IMO Davis seems to be the best option we have for that.

My guess is no. That they will rest him this week and then they have a bye after that before W&M. Shinnick was very vague about him playing on the conference call, because he wants ND State to think it's Davis or Brown.
