17-18 Non-Conference Schedule

Recommended Posts

Took a look at other non-conference schedules in the CAA and while every team is stuck playing D2/3 schools, we definitely have one of the least attractive home schedules.  Below is a recap of only the non-conference HOME schedules.  Listed are the home opener, best home opponent, any D2/3 schools and what conferences are represented.

Charleston - Siena (home opener and best home game), North Greenville (D2), home games against schools from the Big South, MAAC, MEAC and SoCon

Delawho - Wesley (D3 and home opener), Notre Dame (best home game), home games against schools from the ACC, Ivy, MAC and WAC

Drexel - Bowling Green (home opener), Rider (best home game), Arcadia (D3), home games against schools from the AEast, MAAC, MAC and Patriot

Elon - TBA

Hofstra - Army (home opener and best home game), Molloy (D2), home games against schools from the ASun and Patriot

James Madison - Bridgewater (D3 and home opener), Old Dominion (best home game), home games against schools from A10, CUSA and Slum Belt

UNCW - North Carolina Weslyan (D3 and home opener), Furman (best home game), Greensboro (D3) and home games against schools from Big South and SoCon

Northeastern - TBA

Towson - Frostburg State (D3 and home opener), UMBC (best home game), St. Mary's (D3) and home games against schools from AEast and MEAC

William & Mary - TBA

I understand us not wanting to play Coppin (let em start the season 0-12 to balance their budget), but we've got to find ways to attract A10, MAAC, Patriot and maybe MVC or Horizon schools to make the trip to Towson.  Maybe it's a matter of filling the seats so we have $ to pay those schools to visit, but we won't do that when you can get 4 free tickets for every other game because it's an appreciation night for one group or another (faculty/staff, first responders, military, special olympians, educators, etc.).  Enough for this morning.

Just spotted the following website on early season tournaments that was updated on Tuesday.  It lists only 4 of the 8 teams playing in the Gulf Coast Showcase.  Along with Towson are Florida Atlantic (16-17 RPI was 281), Manhattan (16-17 RPI was 262) and Penn (16-17 RPI was 202).  Towson's RPI last season was 94.  Let's hope for some stronger teams on the other half of the bracket.  I think Missouri State might also be there this year and their RPI last year was 211.

There's the schedule for the Gulf Coast Showcase.  Towson draws Florida Atlantic in the final game of the first round.  2nd game would be against either Penn or Northern Illinois.  Missouri State, Georgia Southern, Manhattan, and UMKC are on the other side of the bracket.  Certainly not much meat in this event but will still be good to get some reps, and hopefully wins against this type of competition before getting into CAA play.
