Tough loss for Northeastern

Recommended Posts

Up 17 in the second half. Speaking of coaching? Coen is a hell of coach but what was their offensive gameplan at the end of regulation? Give the ball to Pusica and spread out? So Charleston started doubling him. The travel call on Pusica with 20 secs left when he was trapped was BS but not sure he wouldn't have turned it over. Turnovers. 20. Tough to win that way. Tough lose a final by giving Chealey a layup to tie the game and the overtime was all Cougars.

Congrats to CofC but have to feel for the Huskies.

But he's the best X's and O's coach in the league! How can his team yak a 17-point 2nd half lead?

You mentioned the defense, or lack thereof, on the final play of regulation.  That's smart playing there by Chealey and a big difference between that and what we would try to do in that situation -- he went to the basket and had an easy layup.  But how about the way NE decided to play the last 3 seconds?  They gave Chealey a free look with zero harassment and he nearly canned it to stay out of OT.  Just an all-out choke by NE.  Loved the emotion by Chealey and Grant and certainly can't help but feel jealous watching everyone there celebrate.

We rarlerly agree but on this one we do. That was not a walk at all. Puscia was passive last 4 minutes of the game. But they have no other playmakers.

Crowd was large and loud for c of c and that probably had some effect on the officiating. Chealey alone took more ft than the entire ne team.

Hahaha 4 semi final trips and 3 champ appearances in 8 years. He is a hell of coach with way different recruiting standards

Giving a player a free look/the entire court with no pressure?  That sounds like  the secu skerry special

Chealey put on one of the most clutch free throw shooting in the history of the CAA at 16 for 16. Amazing. And he's only a 39% field goal shooter. So glad he's gone.

Also wonder which big school is going to swoop in on Grant. I know he's a native of that city so he won't just take any offer. If you see what Keatts did at NC State, I'm sure an ACC or even SEC school would look his way.

Tough loss, no question. I thought the free throw the kid from NE missed, when he had the chance to increase the lead to 7 instead of 6 was huge. Thought 22 was fouled going to the hoop with 2 secs left, but CofC was just the better team. Coven could have used a little more variety on offense.

I wonder if some school, particularly one in the New England region, would take a run at Coen? His record at NE is quite impressive.

Also, Matheny at Elon could be on the hot seat & presumably schools will come sniffing around Grant at C of C. Shaver is probably safe at W&M, after they exceeded expectations this year, but they do have a new AD & we all know their history of futility when it comes to never having gotten to the dance.
