2017 Volleyball Season

Recommended Posts

I am able to confirm that Marrisa Wonders was out with a concussion for the home losses to Hofstra and Northeastern. She returned for Charleston, but following the lopsided loss, the team changed its lineup, which has resulted in 3 straight victories including the big one last weekend versus JMU.

Since at least the early 2000's, Towson has done very good job of hiring top notch volleyball coaches.  I think they've had 4 head coaches in that time and only one didn't work out in wins/losses and his stay was short-lived.  Just wish they had more banners in SECU that read CAA and NCAA volleyball.

Two wins this weekend over Hofstra and Northeastern to put Towson into a tie for second. Did it this weekend without the injured Carola Biver, who has been a two-year starter. It's been a good couple of days for Towson Athletics!

Huge match on Friday night in SECU against Charleston.  Their only conference loss was to Northeastern on Sep 24 by a score of 1 to 3.  Charleston turned around though and swept Northeastern on Oct 21.  Doubt the win gives us any better chance for the top seed, but a loss could drop us into the bottom half of the bracket for CAAs.  We still have to play Madison one more time (plus UNCW and Delawho).

After back-to-back 3-2 wins over UNCW and JMU, the team can still capture the second seed (which means a first round bye) for the playoffs. For this to happen, we must beat the Blue Hens on Nov. 12 and hope Northeastern loses one of their final two games to Hofstra or JMU. This is very possible, considering NU is currently in mediocre form and both their matches are against top-half teams. We should expect to beat Delaware, considering they're one of the weakest teams in the CAA (although UNCW is also struggling and still took a 2-0 lead against us on Saturday).

We just got swept by JMU in the CAA semis. The keeps happening: we have a strong regular season, and flame out in the tournament. Seems like a coaching issue in that Metil isn't able to get his teams up at crunch time.
