TOWSON 12, LOYOLA 10 (story up)

Recommended Posts

Woodall played out of his mind as well.  We may get some first place votes (and probably should).  Got really concerned during that 15 or so minute scoring drought, but we turned it on late (just like w Georgetown and JHU).  Loyola simply couldn’t sustain anything with Woodall winning practically every draw in the 2nd half

I thought last year's disease of sloppy turnovers seeping in during the 3rd quarter was going to cause us to wilt.  But fortunately, the defense held firm and Canto was an absolute beast in net.  But you're right, even if Loyola scored, we could feel comfortable that we'd get the ball right back with Woodall taking the faceoff.  Just wish he could have scored on a couple of those 4th quarter wins where he went right down the middle of the field.  He deserved one of those.

Think we go to number 2 with the resume we currently have. Most of the top 5 teams have 1 loss and weak schedule

Loyola L vs towson

Maryland 5 wins but weak schedule

Cornell weak wins

Yale L vs villanova

Penn State L vs yale

Duke L vs high point

Koby Smith did a great job on Spencer, our shorties of Goodrich and O'Dare were lock down, Monahan is playing like the All American he was at Gonzaga, Fromer is turning into a nice little playmaker that displays toughness (not afraid to turn the corner),  Canto and Sunday were outstanding but it all starts with Woodall. Loyola couldn't guard us in man and when they switched to zone we struggled and went on the scoring drought. We struggled against zone a couple years a go at Fairfield. Role players like the California duo in Beachum and McClean also stepped up.

Does  anyone have  the resume that we do with 3 top 20 wins this early in the season?  We should garner some number 1 votes this week. Lastly I hope all Tiger fans appreciate what a great head coach and coaching staff we have.

The scary thing about this team is that they haven't come close to peaking and one of our best shooting middies is still injured in Matt Sovero. Sloppy turnovers by both teams. We had a near-24 minute drought but they figured out there zone and Sunday was fantastic. This kid has grown from tall, think kid to a potential All-American. Like Spencer, he has great vision and he dishes it off when he sees the double teams. Would like to see Maloof shoot better and B. McClean limit the turnovers. We really should have had 6-7 more goals. Hit four pipes in first half and then when trying to protect the lead, we shot very high over the goal. We had 49 shots and just 12 goals but we were saved by Canto. This kid came out of nowhere, a D2 transfer last season who was 3rd or 4th string.

That's coaching folks. They took a 6-6, 245-pound goaltender who was raw and now he's making ridiculous saves against the No. 1 team in the country. Woodall was unreal but again, when you win that many face-offs, you have to capitalize. That's the great thing about this one. We still have a lot of work to do on offense. On D, we triple teamed Spencer a bit too much in the first half and he was just finding guys for layups. Adjustments were made. Great win but it's early.

Earned some respect tonight. Officials tried to protect Loyola and allowed Spencer a couple of bs moves. Thought we got tired in the second qtr and Nads did a poor job of not using TO’s to maintain possessions.  Woodall did what he should be able to do.  Kid from Loyola started kicking his stick in the 4th to try to stop the fast breaks. Nads was going bananas with the refs on the second to last time out.  Canto and Smith were terrific tonight. Cold sticks impacted the game.Loyola could not run with us and had to switch to zone. Early, not in best condition yet.
