Football newcomers in the spring

Recommended Posts

I know, no spring game. RA didn't want to risk more injuries. I'll be trying to get out there two more times.

Let's take an in-depth look at the spring roster (some names not posted yet on the on-line roster)

Interesting number change?
Ryan Rutkowski takes No. 7. Jabari Greenwood's former number.

7 Troy Vincent Jr. He's back. Might have been some doubt since he was listed as a senior last year. Really hasn't played much in his FBS/FCS career. Safety? Corner? Nickel?

8 Jesus Gibbs (6-4, 290ish). If we are going 3-4, the South Carolina transfer should be a great candidate for a starting defensive end.

9 Darian Street (6-1, 190)  WR from Pitt has three years. Talented player who will finally get his chance with Jabari Allen and Shane Leatherbury. Could have best WR trio in the league

10 Robert Javier (6-0, 175) Next Tye Smith? Same number as Chris Greaves, who needs to step up this year

15 Sean Bryan (5-7, 175). Diminutive RB gets a chance to play a lot as fifth back with Shane Simpson taking less reps and Yeedee coming off surgery.

17 Jeff Miller (6-6, 253) Future starting QB?

22 Ricky DeBerry Number change from 4. Position change?

26 Daniel Thompson (6-3, 210). Big bodied WR who sat out last season. Hellacious blocker but a lot of players ahead of him. Will be interesting to see where he is by the summer.

27 A. Feliz-Platt. Missed all of last year due to injury. Nobody runs harder. For those old enough to remember, he's a reincarnation of Noah Read.

38 Stanley Davis (6-0, 180). Another juco safety from Louisburg College

39 Steven Brown (5-11, 190), Juco safety from Sierra College in California. All-American

41 Brian Chase, 42 Sean Jefferson 51 Langston Cross. walk ons. Chase spent some time at Rutgers. Cross apparently played baseball

62 Marcus Bowman (6-2, 260) DE Big-time pass rusher from ASA College. Should have three years

64 John Mullins III Expected to move to OL from DL

81 D'Ago Hunter (5-6, 165) Truly one of the most exciting newcomers (redshirt freshman) on the roster. They need to get him the ball in the return game and in the passing game.

82 Ja'Len Elliott (6-1, 186). R-sophomore. RA very high on Elliott

97 Sean McDonough, Sophomore punter from Marshall with big leg

99 Vinnie Shaffer (6-0, 310) Middle River native who played at St. Anselm. Has 3 years and is expected to vie for nose guard spot.
