D1 Transfers from Verbal Commits

Recommended Posts

Now up to 565. Latest transfer is 3* Myles Douglas from UCF and Aberdeen, Md. Played just one season. Redshirted last season. Has two years left and has to sit out assuming he didn't graduate. Went to Paul IV and is a Team Takeover guy. Pat O'Connell follows him on Twitter for whatever that's worth.

Interesting possibility. Per his verbalcommits page, he had offers from the likes of Miami, USC, WVA, Georgia Tech, VA Tech, Penn State & MD

Normally I’d think he’s out of our reach, but presumably his stock has dropped, seeing as he didn’t play this past season and in his freshman year he didn’t exactly set the world on fire (9 minutes per game & shot 29% from the floor).

Maybe with his local ties, he’s in play. If he was a RS this past season wouldn’t he be a sit 1/play 3?

If he redshirted last season wouldn't he be eligible to play immediately?

No. He needs to have graduated academically or have a special reason to play right away like parent is sick, sibling health issue, etc.

Even if he did not play?  I was under the impression that you had to sit out one school calendar year between suiting up for different schools (other than grad transfer or special circumstances).

They still have to sit out and lose a season of eligibility, so they if Quinton Drayton had transferred after he redshirted his freshman season, he would have to sit out another season and lose a year, thus becoming a sophomore. Since he transferred after one season and played 10 games, probably can't apply for a medical hardship. So he's going to lose that sophomore season and will become a junior when he transfers because he already had a redshirt season. Not fair but those are the rules.

Talked about him earlier in the thread. Interesting that TCU (Jamie Dixon) is interested in him. His shooting is suspect but can rebound well (4.6rpg) for a 6-2 guard and is solid defensively. Once again, scored 24 against us last year but not sure he would choose us, knowing that Timberlake is a r-freshman and Betrand is a sophomore. Howard will be gone so we definitely could use depth at the 2. If Timberlake lives up to his potential, I'm fine with Nolan as the backup with some ability to play some point. But I assume he'd want to come into a situation where the starting two is a senior this year. Coppin would probably be ideal if he wants to start. But if Timberlake is just meh, then sure, he'd be a nice backup plan, especially if he continues to improve his three-point shot.

And yes, the last three-star guard from Baltimore and Mount Carmel to play at Towson was Troy Franklin.

When these transfers post that they’ve “heard” from X number of schools, I wonder what that really means? In other words, does it just mean some assistant coach has started following the kid on twitter, versus a coach actually reaching out to the kid & talking to him, versus setting up a visit with the kid.

Another transfer who is following one of our coaches on twitter...Ledarrius Brewer, 6’5 guard from SEMO State. Averaged 14.5ppg as a freshman; 12.5 as a sophomore. 46% from 2’s for his career, but only 33% from 3. Also averages 4 boards & 1 steal per game. Would be a sit 1/play 2.
