TSU88 Posted November 9, 2024 Report Posted November 9, 2024 Games like this are pointless, to a point. I mean it allows for the assessment of players, albeit against a vastly inferior team. If you win by 50, people say “big deal, we should have won by 50.” If you don’t win in a blowout, then all kinds of alarm bells 🔔 go off. As to Individual players, I was impressed with Suliman’s 3-point shooting. I was also impressed with Tejada’s scorers mentality. He’s remorseless when it comes to shooting, which I like. Not sure if we’ve had a guy like that in awhile. Embeya is raw. Not sure how much we’re going to get out of him, at least early in the season. Was a little disappointed with Lowery tonight. I thought he might thrive tonight, but he didn’t. Samb is, well, let’s put it this way, I have concerns he might not be an upgrade over Chase Paar. If this is the caliber of player we’re going to get from the portal, we might as well just not even go fishing in the portal pool. Anyway, on to South Carolina. Hopefully May will be back for that game 1 Quote

mat1992 Posted November 9, 2024 Author Report Posted November 9, 2024 Not much to say about this one. There were some good quotes and I did ask about the SMC game to PS and the players. Tomiwa had a great answer about his 3-point shooting, which was great tonight and not so great in the opener. He made six straight 3s after missing that technical to open the game, his first three and two-point shot. Slow start but turned it on in the midway through the first half due to defense. The passing was great after that especially from Lowery (4 assts) and Hicks (3asts). Probably should have had a lot more than 18 assists. Samb did a nice job tonight on the boards (7), but his finishing is rough. Also great to see the Tarke brothers play together as Mandela has D1 quickness but not D1 size. Also, RS with about 10 minutes and just two shots. Three-pointers were good and we took 34, making 14 (41.2%) since they were packing the paint. FT shooting (11-of-16), other than Tejada (6-6) and Samb? (2-2) is still an issue and will be our Achilles' heel until proven otherwise. That and the center position. Quote

Hopefully May will be back for that game May will be back. Samb is better than Paar on the defensive end, but you can't play him more than 10mpg because he doesn't have great hands. At least he made a nice short jumper in the lane. Embeya is going to have to play at least 15mpg. I wasn't disappointed in Lowery. Had two quick fouls when the team was going through the motions. Only played about 16 minutes. I think anything you get from him on offense is a bonus. I can still see a minimum of 7-8 ppg with about 5rpg, 3apg, 1spg, 1pg. Still the best passer on the team and eventually, I'd like to see him start in the backcourt with D-Will. He passed up a bunch of shots tonight to try and get his teammates involved. In today's game, that's rare. Quote
mat1992 Posted November 9, 2024 Author Report Posted November 9, 2024 A little over 1,300 tonight. Didn't sound like much but a nice student turnout behind the basket. Getting up 34 threes and having 26 fastbreak points can always get the crowd enthusiastic. BTW, I hate these non-D1 games. I don't have to go but figured with so few home games, it was nice to see some familiar faces and to test out my eyes after summer surgery (saw well w/o glasses). Only good thing is to see these walk-ons get legitimate minutes probably for the only time this season. Of course, Tomiwa making those threes was nice. There's less pressure at home against P-SWB but the three-point line is the same. I asked him why he was comfortable shooting threes after not taking hardly any at IUP. He said they never let him shoot before. Quote
Blounge Posted November 9, 2024 Report Posted November 9, 2024 Hopefully a good confidence boost going into South Carolina. Now these guys know for certain they can hit these shots in a game so shoot away! Quote
