https://towsontigers.com/news/2024/11/12/mens-basketball-towson-mens-basketball-falls-to-south-carolina-on-tuesday.aspx

There are no mincing words about tonight's performance. It was dreadful on both ends. Murray-Broyles is a heck of a player. Pringle looks bigger than 220. The rest are decent SEC players, but because of fouling and lack of size up front, we had to double a ton or at least more than usual. Until Embeya can figure out how to stay on the floor for 20 minutes, that's part of the game. Here are some dumb, frustrated bullet points.

*We definitely went to the boards-the offensive. You also have to rebound defensively. Didn't think it was fair to start out the second half with May on Broyles. He's giving up about 30 pounds (conservatively) and 2-3 inches. Probably six inches in terms of length. The only guys who could come close to matching up with them are Jones and Sulaiman..

*This team goes as far as Williamson and Tejada will take the offensively. I think somebody said it right on the chat in the first game. How about a two-man game with both? Can Tyler not set a screen for Dylan and maybe get the ball back? Both, especially Dylan, need to make the extra pass when the shot isn't open.

*I know Lowery fouled out but when he's in the game, he should run the offense. Even with Dylan on the floor. DWill can be a solid mid-major guard but he's not explosive in the halfcourt. Not against high-major guys. Lowery is athletic and long. He's also the best passer on the team which right now after tonight's poor passing is not saying much. He should be the backup point guard, not Hicks. Not against this type of talent, but you can't get into foul trouble.

*It's nice to see CMay drive more, but when you try a floater against  6-10 Pringle instead of drive and dish to a possible 3-pointer, not a good idea. Three-point shooting is M.I.A.

*Sulaiman has the size to post up but not the length, the moves, the athleticism....you get my point.

*One thing I agree with Pat about was to bench Tejada several times in the second half. Who cares if you lose by 16 or 26? Taking bad shots, giving up rebounds and not boxing out. He has to do or at least try to do other things than shoot.

*Tarke. I just don't know what else to say. Less minutes. Less missed FTs, Less missed long tiptoe threes. Don't get it. I wish Cole was a little better and stronger. I still don't get why he's redshirting.

*Outrebounded by 8. 29.6% from the field; 20% (5-25) from beyond the arc; 17 of 29 (59%) from the line

*Samb.

*I think I mentioned that last season, we should have gotten a third center to groom to take over for CT. Or a backup center. As much as I like Lowery, that position was more important that another three-man who was super athletic but very skinny and raw as a freshman. Getting a big was much more important because CT was graduating. We could have redshirted him.

To everyone. Take a breath. That's it. Everyone should be frustrated as hell. JMU becomes very important on Saturday night.

Quotes from Skerry on TowsonTigers.com

"We got our ass kicked. We didn't guard, We didn't rebound. We continually took threes. The only thing we did well was get to the foul line. We didn't make enough. Outplayed, outcoached. Got exposed in certain areas. Have to take a look...too many threes. Just played bad all around. Christian got to the glass. We missed a lot of shots. We have to get back to playing Towson basketball. We had a couple of good days of practice. Didn't carry over. Pringle and Broyles dominated us in the paint. We have to shoot a much better percentage. We're settling. We need to get to the rim more and shoot threes. Choppy. A brutal experience in our performance and coaching was equally grotesque."

"We have to have some hard days of practice. Some older guys...maybe rest up but when you guard and rebound that poorly, when you play like this, it's more about re-setting and some things about habits. Who starts and who plays is based on how we perform in practice. We can't guard like this to get anywhere close to where want. Can't take away from South Carolina...the dominated us."

Yeah I know he had foul trouble but against St Mary’s Lowery was effective at the point.  I want to see more of that and hopefully in turn May TT & DWill can score more.

We got in early foul trouble against Penn State WB. Something has to change. Might want to let Ndefo play because redshirting three dudes right now doesn't make sense, even if they asked for it.

Ugly. Pitiful. Disgraceful. Embarrassing. Lack of effort. You name any negative adjective and that’s Towson hoops. One of the worst games in a while.  26 point beat down for the presumptive favorite in the league, to fall to 0-2 on the season

awful shooting  check

awful defense  check

a million fouls  check

awful free throw shooting  check

piss poor passing  check

garbage coaching check

bad finishing check

Sloppy turnovers  check

Shitting the bed against a quality team check

It's one thing for Embeya to be foul-prone as a thin freshman, but everyone just reaches instead of moving their feet. Very few draw charges. It's one thing if you have a great offensive team that can shoot, but you don't have that. It's ok to be a two-way player. Right now, we don't have many one-way players.

I'll give Jones credit by playing hurt. But at 6-6, 235, it's not like he's going to dominate the paint against a 6-10 dude like Pringle.

I mean what is there to add. Embarrassing & extremely disappointing, yet, at least to me, not really surprising. I’ll reserve judgement until after JMU, but I’m beginning to think Skerry made a terrible mistake in not bringing in a competent big via the portal. I’m also beginning to think that the prognosticators who picked us to win the CAA might have rocks in their heads. I guess we’ve already played maybe the two best teams on our schedule (though JMU, C of C and UNCW might have something to say about that), but this kind of dreadful shooting is painful to watch and certainly isn’t a recipe for success.

I mean samb was a 5 and 3 guy shooting 57% in 18 minutes a game prior to Towson. Not great but serviceable.  He’s been awful here.  Everyone who transfers here gets worse.  Why the hell is that?
Also Irvine is pretty good.

Another chance for a nice win, another loss. The sad part about these first two games, is they weren’t similar to past where we blow it late. These two haven’t been competitive or in any doubt.   Zero fucking excuses for a team returning so much
