Ugly ass week for the CAA.

Preseason favorite URI needed a late FG to top Holy Cross (0-3) 9-7

Maine lost a team called StoneHill? (1-2) 13-10

Albany lost to a team called New Haven??!  (1-2) 24-17 to fall 0-3.  Little Ambrose struggling there at HC.

Campbell lost to Furman, who has now beat two CAA teams in 3 weeks.

UNH did hang with Ball State. & Monmouth hung with Charlotte. Hawks averaging 42 ppg this season (must be nice and fun). Yes, their defense is bad, but their QB is the best player in the CAA, and its not close.

Saw Mike “the situation” was throwing out T-shirts at the Rutgers game. They also had fireworks and a jersey shore style boardwalk with rides and games for the tailgate

Turning our attention to our future non-conference scheduling for a minute, I just took a look at what we currently have on the docket for the upcoming 6 seasons and it's painfully underwhelming.

I realize schedules can change and games can be added or dropped but this is about as lackluster a non-conference schedule as you can get.  Outside of the South Carolina game, which is a requisite "money-grab" game, there isn't a game that has a bit of juice behind it.  Not a single one that helps elevate our brand exposure.  What a boring, unimaginative, bland, non-conference lineup.

Now, based on what some have shared on this message board in recent days, it sounds like this will be a moot point if we'll be joining the ranks of the FBS....which will completely blow up these scheduled games anyway.....but still....what a terrible slate of games as it stands today.

It is football there are only 2 real FCS OOC games most season.  This has been the same teams funneled in and out for the last decade or so. What else do you want?

If this program can't afford to fly for games in the great white North, then what makes you think we can afford FBS? The Morgan games are great for both programs from a $$$ perspective.  2 buses for ~8 hours. Pre-game and post-game meal, no hotels, or other travel expenses and per diem. Less spent on sending the equipment truck and staff ~5 miles instead of 500!  Add in the money from ticket sales and its a no brainer, even if the games, while entertaining based off how comical bad the play is between the teams, aren;t great.

I know I can be a little overly optimistic at times, but I am looking forward to playing Navy in 2026 (2030 is too far away to care, although I know it will come too quickly). I don't really understand why we have two FBS opponents. That scheduling philosophy messed up a possible playoff berth once-upon-a-time in 2012 (even though the first half at LSU was a really fun in-person experience and a great overall weekend).

As far as future FCS opponents, it would be nice to swap South Carolina out for a decent FCS team, but I would imagine this late in the game it would be a pretty subpar FCS opponent. The 2027 slate is weak with Norfolk State and Morgan State, but still room to add something.

We will see where Youngstown State ends up, but that is a solid 2028 opponent, and I think it is fun to get Dartmouth back on the schedule in 2029. The Ivys committing to the FCS playoffs is probably one of the best things that has happened at the FCS level, and it makes future matchups with them more fun.

We had NDSU on our schedule for two years and we weren't ready for it. It would be fun to play top level FCS non-conference competition, and in general FCS could use more big games between team from different regions in non-conference play. However, I am not sure it is worth it for most of those top teams to do a home-and-home with us.

I am interested, what types of matchup would you prefer to see? I love having Navy (would love to get Army in the future too, but that seems unrealistic), and would love to get more Missouri Valley, SoCon and Ivys in the future. As much as I always worry about losing to them, I think Morgan State is a regional matchup worth having on an annual basis.
