Chris Datres Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 Good to see we’re not overreacting off the first game. No such thing as a bad win. If the sky is already falling after game 1, then I’m gonna stay away from the misery around here. I’m surprised we haven’t called for any firings yet. 3 2 Quote
mat1992 Posted November 4 Author Report Posted November 4 Certainly an overreaction by many including yours truly due to the opponent, who somehow crushed Delaware in a scrimmage, and the enormous expectations of this team. I do think this is potentially one of the best defensive teams we’ve had in a long time. It was my biggest concern when we lost Lowery and May. It wasn’t flawless by any means but I think Ndefo, Embeya and Doumbia are all solid defenders and Tyler looks like he’s improved. Dylan stil gets posted up by bigger guards. Embeya has to provide more help when these guys are struggling to defend. And by guys, i mean Womack, Schmidt, Conway and DWill, But the starting lineup should have Jack D in it. The bench is a work in progress right now. They have nearly two months to figure it out but I’d say Coleman and Samb should not in the mix, 1 Quote
tualum Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 As I said, skerry teams play better than no half and tigers win big. Not sure enough to go dancing as usual 1 Quote

Last season we were scratching our heads why guys were redshirted and that first game against St Mary’s we looked so thin on the bench. Our 1-2 punch has to great every game to get where we want to get. And let it roll off the tongue…. DOUMBIA!!! Welcomed addition 👏 1 Quote

SF Tejada, Doumbia PF Ndefo, Womack/Coleman C Embeya, Seck, Samb Personally, I'm confused as hell right now about the rotation but I'd probably have Conway play minutes over Schmidt. Womack has to play over Coleman. Play through his mistakes. Coleman should only play small ball center over Samb. Doumbia needs to start every game. Doesn't matter the position. We need 8 or 9 players I'm not sure we have more than 6 or 7 solid players right now. That game was pretty ugly. Unfortunately, again, that is how this team will play. Sure Loyola can be good this year (from what I saw in person they are likely a bottom half of PL team), but as the pre-season "favorite" you would have liked a better game. There are expectations. Weren't you high on Cole and Coleman all summer?? It's going to be hard to compete with a 7/8 person roster, as there are at least 3 Non-D1 players on scholarship here. Conway should get more minutes, he proved he could shoot a few years ago when he was here and held his own on defense, in the limited minutes. 4, 15 and 21 will need to score ~50-55 points a game for this team to have a chance at hitting 72+ points. Besides Womack in the future, there is not much offense on the roster. Dylan and Tejada were much better defensively last night then in the past. Better effort there, though playing 38+ a night, having to defend, and carry the lions share of the scoring night in and night out, is a lot to ask. 10 hours ago, TSU88 said: Well, a W is a W. Small sample size, but I was disappointed with Schmidt. I thought he would do well vs a team like Loyola, but that wasn’t the case. Disappointed that neither Conway or Cole (who didn’t even play) got a chance to show if they could hit some 3’s. I think it’s apparent we’re going to get very little offense from Sek and Embeya, but I guess we can live with that if they clean up the boards and block shots, as well as stay out of foul trouble, which remains to be seen if they can do. I saw some flashes from Womack; not so much with Ndefo, who somehow missed an uncontested dunk. Good to see Tejada, and, to a lesser extent, DWill, take over the game in the second half. I also think Doumbia has the potential to be the 3rd scorer. The potential downfall of this team could be struggling to score vs a zone defense and struggling against the press. Also, Samb and Coleman should only play in absolute emergencies or mop up time. Well, on to H-Town, where points for us are going to be at a premium Agree on Schmidt, Loyola should have been a good matchup for him. Quote
Bay Area Tiger Posted November 4 Report Posted November 4 (edited) PS- 17 rebounds for our front court was a great sign to start. Gonna need those 3 bigs to really step up in Houston. Spiro this Saturday 🎙️👍 Edited November 4 by Bay Area Tiger Quote

Simply not happy with the result. We are a good enough program to expect more than just a tight win against a Ken Pom 200 team. 2 Quote

Tourists from Des Moines Iowa are having a huge breakfast in Vegas right now because of our Tigers. “Hey Morris.. that Townsend State Tejada kid paid off for us! I love these here eggs Benedict!” 1-0! Not expecting to beat Houston & Kansas but we are expected to beat the rest! Goh Tigers Edited November 4 by Bay Area Tiger 1 Quote
