SB has hung in there, but it looks like UNCW will get the win. Down 72-68 with just over a minute left. Not a bad team that is about to go 1-4 in this league. Looks like there are no teams you can just walk in to their arena and beat, but no dominant teams either. Campbell with Duggan healthy might be that team, but who knows? We will found out next week.

Every team so far looks flawed except for Hofstra, who got taken to OT by Monmouth, so maybe that loss wasnt as bad as we thought in hindsight, still wouldve liked to have that against the Hawks.

Everyone should be watching the two big games right now, UNCW vs SB and CoC vs Hampton.

Both won and both are undefeated. We know they are better than us. No need to rub salt in the wound

So we are not allowed to praise the team and enjoy wins now!!??

You can. Others here will be. 1-4 and struggled to keep a large lead against a undermanned NE team.
there were some positives in the game. Some negatives. Will they build on the positives? History shows probably not.  This was the easy part of our schedule.

Wasn’t my point. Should be watching because we face both those teams in the next two weeks.

CoC gave up a huge lead and barely escaped at home. UNCW was down 23 points to Stony Brook. Walsh down for them as well though might be back next game.

Away at W&M, at Hampton, Hofstra at home, those were easier games than UNCW and CoC at home? I would rather face CoC at home than W&M on the road.

It’s like the owner of the Indians in the movie Major League wanting them to lose so she can move the team.  Except this is out of some desire to feel justified if/when there is a coaching change.  I’m surprised an attitude like that would have wasted the time and money to follow the team to Kansas.

Now back to the game. They needed this win badly and yes, NE has key players out, while we had just one.

Positives:

1)DWill bounced back from a 2-19 performance. If you watched the Hofstra game, he was pressing. Took a handful of  circus playground shots that he can make when he’s on. He wasn’t. Saturday he was. I’m a Wizards fan, and I’ve been listening to a lot of Trae Young talk. The too much dribbling part annoys me and I have to wonder if Dylan patterned his game after him. However, he also led the league in assists last season. Nothing wrong with spreading the wealth.

2)Coleman and Womack. Both have been good the past two games. Womack has the talent to be the fourth or even third option we desperately need. Pat should stay with both in the starting lineup even when Jack returns.

3)Embeya scored 7 points and had a nice post move.

4)Ndefo had 9 rebounds in 15 minutes.

Negatives

1)Strategy after getting a 22-point lead should not be to take the air out of the ball with 10 minutes left. Build the lead to 30 and then start doing that with under 5:00 left. It’s not inconceivable that the lead hit down to 5. With Doumbia out and no real backup point guard, even with Doumbia, we’re not built for stall ball. We just don’t have enough ball handlers.

But there were other reasons for that near collapse. Silly passes led to turnovers. Poor decision making on offense and leaving guts wide open on D.

2)BB IQ. You don’t foul a player 28 feet away from the basket with a DD lead when they’re in the bonus. That was on Tejada. I’m talking about his fourth foul, not his fifth which appeared to be bogus.

3)I’ll do a deeper dive into Tyler’s slump later. But he took just one three pointer. Most his shots were makeable in the midrange. IMO. That’s impacted his defense and his frustrations overall. Chike trying to lead the break is another that drives me crazy. It’s why we need another combo guard and not Schmidt.

4)Five spot. This may be the worst the center position has looked ever. Even Pat mentioned it in the postgame. Not even mentioning the lack of scoring. It’s the horrific offensive fouls and moving screens that play a part in slowing this offense down. But Caleb’s foul in the backcourt was egregious as you can get. Flagrant and that’s a play that just can’t happen when you’re trying to hold on to a lead. That’s the basketball instincts out bigs don’t seem to have along with hands. We only need 10 points and 10 rebounds combined from both. A blocked shot every now and then would be nice. Seck was brought in to face Charleston and UNCW due to their size. Let’s see how that translates starting next Thursday.

My biggest takeaway from yesterday was that we had 31 points combined from our “4” front court players.  And more importantly 3 of them shot a combined 8-10 from the charity stripe.
Yes I know we shot 60% as a team but if we can get more production and consistency from our bigs going forward we can really make some noise in this topsy turvy CAA thus far.
