AtlantaTiger Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Some of y'all need to pump the brakes on the praise you're heaping on Towson for the comeback over Drexel. This is a prime example of the low-standard mindset we have as a program. Three short months ago we were the overwhelming favorites to win the CAA. According to the preseason Coaches poll, we had 7 1st place votes as the top team. Towson was a media darling in multiple mid-major rankings with several outlets predicting we'd finally make it back to the Big Dance. College hoop "experts" were posting on social media about us in the most glowing ways. TT was being hailed as the preseason POY in the CAA. Yesterday, we had to scrap and claw to get past a Drexel team that was picked to finish 10th in the CAA preseason polls and had a losing record coming into the game. We've looked dreadful, DREADFUL, in more games than this season than we've looked competent. TT has been pedestrian at best so far. But here we go with the rose-colored glasses after a 3-game win streak. I know I only speak for myself but I no longer care about them winning games on random Monday or Thursday nights in January. This program has proven time and time again that success in the regular season is no harbinger for what they'll do in the conference tourney. Pat Skerry and this program no longer get the benefit of the doubt. Until he wins the CAA Tourney, this is all just a repeat of all the other seasons he's come up short. This team hasn't done anything we haven't already seen from previous Pat Skerry teams. Just. Win. The tournament. 2 Quote

This team hasn't done anything we haven't already seen from previous Pat Skerry teams. Just. Win. The tournament. I agree we have looked dreadful in a lot of games this year, especially offensively. I don't really care to rehash this conversation, because I think we have all drawn our lines in the sand on our opinions and at the end of the day I still believe we are all rooting for Towson to win. I don't think anyone is excited about being 3-4 in the conference and looking terrible offensively. Especially, when you look at preseason expectations. However, I will continue to say once the season starts I am more-focused on the narratives of the games, players and our opponents. I enjoy the sport of college basketball, and that is the bulk of what I enjoy about it. That comes with positives and negatives. The 0-4 start was dreadfully negative. This three-game winning streak is a little more positive, but I think there is long ways to go before I can actually get excited about what this team can do. I am admittedly still skeptical of this offense. I will admit beating Elon and UNCW (which seems like a stretch right now) would suck me back in a little to get closer to where I was entering this season. However, I am ultimately along for the ride for the season and whatever comes. I don't really know why that is a bad thing. I probably share some (or maybe a lot) of your big picture views about the program, but I do like a lot of these players and it is fun to watch them improve and/or step up in tough moments. That is what I am focused on right now, and until the season ends. We all process this stuff differently. Feel free to lob your criticisms at how naive or rose-colored other fans are, but at the end of the day we all want what is best for this program. Just because you are negative, doesn't make you smarter, more committed or a better fan than anyone else. You do you, and others will do it the way they want. That is part of what weaves together the various narratives on the message board. Edited January 20 by Tiger93 1 Quote

I agree but at the same time being a Ravens fan, this is the equivalent of saying you don’t care about any games until the Ravens play in January. Kind of odd, not really a fan if you’re just supporting/watching 5% of the total season? Again I agree, everything now doesn’t matter if they don’t make a serious tournament push or make the NCAA tournament, but if all fans had that mindset SECU would be empty every game and this school would never build culture. Leaving the game everyone was smiling, had a great time, kids were excited and jumping around, that’s the whole point, build a fan base and memories. Do you want people to keep saying Towson is ass or that they suck until they make the tournament? Show up, support the team, like the players said yesterday the crowd helps and the players notice. We will never make the tournament without the help of fans, whether it’s through NIL donations or support in DC, but it all starts with regular season support. 1 Quote
Bay Area Tiger Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 We all know we need to get to the dance. 35 years!! Can’t we enjoy a league win and have some optimism?? Is that asking too much? Enjoy the journey! I love Pat, the coaches and players and love Spiro on the call If you don’t like them then find another college team to root for! 1 2 Quote

You hit on one of the aggravating aspects of this season so far-when it was announced that TT & DWill were both returning this season many of us, admittedly including myself, looked on this as a huge step towards finally getting to, and maybe even winning, the conference championship game. Could that still happen? Yes. Does it appear likely at this stage to happen? NO. For whatever reason, the play of our 2 top players has regressed. Numbers don’t lie in this regard. Again, the standard caveat is that 1, if not both, could return to form. I certainly hope so, because otherwise we’re just running out the clock until next offseason and whatever that might bring. Added to this, is that we swung & missed on 2 of the 3 guys we brought in via the portal. Does anyone on here objectively believe, given the recent history of guys we’ve brought in via the portal, not named Cam Holden (who came in prior to the free agency that NIL has brought about) that we’ll do any better in the portal this offseason? At this stage, I’m not terribly interested in plus/minus stats (sorry, Tiger93, that’s not a dig at you) or any other real or ginned up analytics. I know what my eyes are seeing, and it’s not pretty. I’ll be happy to eat crow if things turn around. That would start with going 2-0 on this upcoming road swing, but I’m not terribly optimistic about that. I guess the question people need to ask themselves is given the team’s performance thus far, do you objectively believe this team is going to win 3 (more likely 4) games in a row in early March, which is not that far off btw. Completely understand the negativity. Even when we win, this offense can be hard to watch. I am honestly more concerned about going 2-0 on the upcoming road trip on January 20 and less concerned about March. I have only thought we could win 3-4 games in March four different times in my 33+ years following this program. That is what ultimately defines our season as a program, but I just don't find that to be an an enjoyable way to digest the season as we go through it. It is not acceptable that I feel that way, but those are offseason conversations not in-season ones in my mind. I know a regular-season conference title is out the window, which is disappointing. However, outside of UNCW the rest of this conference hasn't shown a lot of consistency either. I think we will have a lot of information to judge this team on after these next three games. I hope for the best, but also know things can go bad too. I feel like there is potential that we can build off the second half Williamson and Tejada had against Drexel, and I like that Embeya, Doumbia Jr., Womack seem to be figuring out their roles a little better. As a fan, it is always fun to see surprise stories like Coleman. I also still feel like Ndefo is a useful spark and could give us some more as the conference campaign progresses. I keep hoping Schmidt finds confidence, but that might be where I really have my rose-colored glasses turned up too high. I honestly feel like we have underachieved so far, and I hate how long it takes us to sort out roles the last few years. This team can still be a good team in this league, but at the same time they are always a five-minute drought away from shooting themselves out of a game. That is a good reason to be negative. I guess we will see where the season goes in these next three games. Quote
