1)Dec. 21, 2013: Connor Frazier's short rushing touchdown with 17 seconds left to give Towson a 35-31 comeback win over Eastern Washington to lift the Tigers to their first FCS Championship game. 2)Oct. 15, 2011: 4th and 29. Grant Enders hits Tom Ryan for a 63-yard TD pass with 1:07 left to lift No. 17 Towson over No. 18 ODU, 39-35 on the road. That was the key win in Towson's first FCS playoff season 3)Nov. 14, 1992: TSU comes from behind to beat Northeastern, 33-32. Down 32-27 with four seconds left, the Tigers go to several lateral before Julian Blair is tackled with no time left out of bounds at the NE 20-yard line. But several Huskie players charged on the field before the play was over and the Tigers had one more play with no time left on the NE 10. Dan Crowley hit Mark Orlando with a TD pass for the improbable win that was honroed with ESPN's Wildest finish of the 1992 season. 4)Def. 13, 2013: Terrance West rushed for a playoff-record 354 yards on 39 carries in the snow to lead the Tigers to a 49-39 road win over Jimmy Garrapolo and Eastern Illinois in the FCS quarterfinals. 5)Nov. 1, 1990: Towson holds a football forum for over four hours to try and save the program after the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee decides to eliminate the program. One of the great wins of the Gordy Combs' era and a game that showed Towson could compete with the elite 1-AA teams. Tony Vinson scored from one-yard out with 10 seconds left to lead the Tigers to a 32-30 upset win over No. 14 Delaware on the road.  7)Oct. 6, 2007: Sean Schaefer takes the Tigers on a 67-yard, four-play drive in just 22 seconds to lead TU over No. 14 Richmond, 23-21 at Unitas Stadium. Schaefer threw for 287 yards (29-of-33) and was named national Player of the Week. 8)Nov. 27, 1976: The late Dan Dullea threw four touchdown passes to lead the Tigers to a 38-36 win over St. Lawrence to lead Towson to a trip to the Division IIII national title game. 9)April 29, 2007: Offensive Tackle Jermon Bushrod is taken in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Bushrod becomes a Pro Bowler and wins a Super Bowl with the Saints. 10)Dec. 17, 1988: Dave Meggett was named winner of the Walter Payton Award for top player in 1-AA. 11)Nov. 26, 2011: Towson football is honored at the half of the Oregon State/Towson basketball game. President Barack Obama, there to see his brother-in-law Craig Robinson's team, decided to join the celebration on the court with the team, taking pictures. Bill Murray, father of assistant coach Luke Murray, was also in the capacity crowd, and shook the hands of Obama and his wife, who were sitting in the front row. 12)Sept. 13, 1995. Towson announces that they will join the Patriot League as an associate member for the 1997 season. That means the end of a short-lived non-scholarship era. 13)August 22, 2002: Towson accepts an invitation to the Atlantic 10 football conference for the 2004 season. They finally join the likes of Delaware, Hofstra, James Madison, William & Mary, who were old members of the Yankee Conference. 14)Sept. 5, 2000: Tigers beat Morgan State, 49-28 in front of 8,5117 to open their newly renovated 11,000-seat stadium. Mikal Lundy picks up 177 all-purpose yards and scores three touchdowns. 15)Nov. 13, 1993: Tony Vinson rushes for 364 yards and four TDs to lead the Tigers to a 49-21 win over Bucknell. On his final carry of the game, he rushed for an 80-yard TD to set an NCAA record for yards in a game in 1-AA. 16)Sept. 29, 2012: Towson falls at LSU, 38-22 but they give the Tigers all they can handle, taking a 9-7 lead into the second quarter. They also produced 291 yards of offense against a top-ranked LSU defense filled with future NFL players. It was the school's first win over an FBS program. West ran for 156 yards and two TDs. 18)Nov. 17, 2012: Towson made a statement against No. 7 New Hampshire, compiling 660 yards of total offense, en route to a 64-35 win on the road to end the season with four straight wins. Despite that win and share of the CAA regular-season title, the Tigers end at 7-4 and did not earn a berth to the FCS playoffs. 19)Sept. 20, 1969: Towson loses their first game in the history of the program to Washington & Lee, 14-13.  20)Oct. 11, 1969: Towson wins their first game in the program's history, over Frostburg State, 53-16. 21)Feb. 24, 1992, after 20 seasons as head coach, Phil Albert resigns with a 117-91-3 record.  22)Feb. 25, 1992: Longtime assistant coach Gordy Combs takes over as the third head coach in the program's history. 23)Sept. 13, 1997: Towson debuts in the Patriot League with a 27-7 win over Holy Cross. Unfortunately, the Tigers finished 1-5 in the PL in their first season. 24)Oct. 11, 2003: Towson beat Holy Cross, 30-13 before a crowd of 8,125 people. The stadium was officially dedicated Johnny Unitas Stadium in front of many ex-Baltimore Colts players and Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich.  25)Oct. 31, 1992: Towson trailed Indiana U. (PA), 33-13 with less than six minutes left in the game. They scored three touchdowns and recovered two onsides kicks in the final 5:34 of the game for the historic win. A four-yard TD run by Brian McCarty with 1:06 left gave the Tigers the 35-33 lead and the win. That victory over IUP ended their 29-game home winning streak. 26)Jan. 26, 2009: UConn assistant and former Towson grad Rob Ambrose named the school's fourth head coach. 27)Dec. 7, 2013: Towson beats Fordham, 48-28 at home to win their first-ever FCS playoff game. 28)Nov. 24, 1984. Towson State beats Norfolk State, 31-21 in the Division II playoffs for the first-ever playoff win at that level. The Tigers rushed for 295 yards and linebacker Joe Gamble's blocked punt and touchdown were key plays in that game. 29)Nov. 2, 1996. Kevin Smith threw for a school-record 471 yards as the Tigers beat Marist in three overtimes, 33-32. 30)Nov. 5, 1988: Dave Meggett sets a school record with 221 rushing yards on 32 carries to lead the Tigers over New Haven, 31-17. 31)April 23, 1989: Meggett is drafted in the fifth round by the New York Giants. 32)Jan. 4, 1983: All-American punter Sean Landeta was drafted in the 14th round of the first USFL Draft by the Philadelphia Stars. He wound up playing 21 years of pro football. 34)Sept. 12, 1987: TSU lost to Northeastern, 39-22 in the Tigers' first-ever 1-AA game. Freshman quarterback Chris Goetz threw for 320 yards to lead the Tigers, who held a 22-17 third-quarter lead. 35)Sept. 12, 1988: The Tigers get revenge on Northeastern as Meggett returns a kickoff for 100 yards for a TD and scores three others to lead Towson to a 45-34 win.  36)Oct. 16, 1993. If there is such thing as a most exciting loss in school history, that took place at home against Howard. The Tigers fell 44-41 and unfortunately, that game probably kept them out of the playoffs. They wound up with an 8-2 record with losses to Howard and Hofstra with a final ranking of 24th. Jay "Sky" Walker hit Germaine Kohn with a 9-yard TD pass as time expired to ruin TSU's homecoming and season. The two teams combined for 1,024 yards. Tony Vinson rushed for 224 yards and two TDs, including a 70-yarder. Dan Crowley also threw for four touchdown passes. 37)Jan. 5, 2012: At the FCS awards dinner in Frisco, Tx., Terrance West was named as the first Jerry Rice Award winner as the nation's top freshman in NCAA FCS Rob Ambrose was named as the Eddie Robinson Award winner for FCS National Coach of the Year. 38)May 10, 2014: Terrance West selected in the third round in the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He was the highest Tigers selection to date. 39)May 2015: Cornerback Tye Smith was selected in the fifth round by the Tennessee Titans. 40)Dec. 3, 2011: Towson falls in their first FCS playoff game to Lehigh, 40-38 on a safety in the fourth quarter. The game was tied six times. Towson was the most improved team in NCAA Division I, going from 1-10 to 9-3.  41)Sept. 11, 2010: Towson won one of the longest games in FCS history, 47-45 over Coastal Carolina in five overtimes. The Tigers were down 21-7 in the fourth quarter and tied the game on a short TD reception by Tom Ryan. Jordan Dangerfield knocked down a potential game-tying conversion pass to secure the win. 42)Oct. 28, 2006: Sean Schaefer outdueled Joe Flacco in the Tigers 49-35 win over Delaware. Schaefer threw for 435 yards and tied the school record with five TD passes. Eric Yancy caught 9 passes for 140 yards and three TDs. 43)Nov. 8, 2003: Cornerback Davon Telp had a monster day with two interceptions for TD in the final 2:10 to lead the Tigers over Georgetown, 27-6. His 144 interception return yards were a Patriot League record. That win was the last for Towson in the Patriot League. 44)Oct. 24, 1992: Tony Vinson set a school-record 264 yards on 41 carries to lead the Tigers to a 28-21 Homecoming win over James Madison. 45)Sept. 10, 2011: Towson hands No. 20 Villanova a 31-10 loss to beat the Wildcats for the first time since 2006. Dominique Booker had a strong game with a 47-yard touchdown pass and a short TD run, while Terrance West added two short TD carries. Grant Enders threw for 193 yards and ran for 62.  46)Nov. 20, 1993: Vinson had 364 yards on Nov. 13 and 327 yards on Nov 20 in the final two games of his career. His final game took place against Morgan State as he set a school-record with five TDs to lead the Tigers to a 56-12 win. He ended the season with an NCAA record 2,016 yards.  47)Oct. 23, 1999: Ed Kulic kicked a 26-yard field goal with 26 seconds left to lift the Tigers to a 25-23 win over Fordham. They jumped out to a 4-0 record in the Patriot League. 48)Oct. 11, 2008: Schaefer became the 20th FCS quarterback o reach more than 10,000 passing yards as he led the Tigers to a 37-32 homecoming win over Rhode Island. His 64-yard TD pass to David Newsome gave the Tigers a 16-9 lead and allowed him to go over 10,000 yards. 49)Nov 22., 2008: Wideout Marcus Lee becaome Towson's career receiving leader, catching six passes for 58 yards against James Madison. He set an FCS record while catching a pass in all 45 career games. Schaefer ended his career finishing second in FCS history with 1,044 completions and set school records for attempts, completions, completion percentage and yards. 50)Nov. 1, 1980: Future Towson Hall of Famer Sean Landeta kicked three field goals, including a school-record 57-yarder as the Tigers shut out Del State 30-0. His 57-yarder was the longest kick in the state of Maryland at any level.
