Here's the difference... KENTUCKY is a Blue Blood Basketball Program and competes in a league that can get multiple at-large bids, so yes, it's 100% different than Towson and the one-bid league CAA.

No one makes the NCAA Tournament in March from the CAA by games they win in November. This is a 100% proven fact. The CAA is a weak league and is not getting an at-large bid. The way people whine and whimper about pre Thanksgiving losses could make a less learned observer think that Towson had actually made a postseason appearance since the George H W Bush Administration. But if it helps you to get your undies in a bunch over such then enjoy the shared misery. It's funny to watch. All that being true, the loss to Buffalo was brutal.

As bad as the basketball and football choke jobs were this past weekend this thread is the most embarrassing of all.
From the Chicken Little posts that the apocalypse is near to Professor Know It All coming in for his thrice-a-semester appearance telling us about the "Golden Age" of Athletics being now.
Talk about massive disconnects.
Here's the scoop, RA is not getting fired. PS is not getting fired. TL is not getting fired.
Football did not make the playoffs this year and will not make the playoffs next year with a new QB at the helm. No on is on the roster now who is 1/2 as good as Flacco.
Men's Basketball is not going to the NCAA or NIT this year. Skerry has 5 more years on his contract. Learn to love it cause it ain't changing.
But since Volleyball and Women's Basketball are going gangbusters, and Field Hockey has their own field, we should all be content.

I agree with above that it serves no purpose to repeatedly call for the change in a coach after this season as it will never happen. It would not surprise me to see Ambrose look for a OC job in Power 5 after this season as missing the playoffs again, in 2020, could mean that he gets punted.
Per the CAA Coaches, Ambrose's record is pretty weak in comparison to the group. Pretty damn weak. Wait for it... it's coming... the excuse parade of injuries (everybody has them) & bad budget (fake news).

3 losses now in the CAA mean we are not going to the playoffs, again, which is no big loss in that we would lose major dollars if we hosted a game anyway. To borrow a theme from TU2012, we have never won a playoff game without Terrance West in the backfield.

Until they are serious about athletics and at-least trying to compete for a conference championship every year, it will be status quo
Truly, what would change if Towson Football was 6-1 instead of 4-3? Would big numbers of people really be showing up? Would media coverage be more demonstrative? Would high school students be saying they want to come to Towson? Would more alumni be donating money to athletics? It's third tier small college football in a pro football city with two FBS football teams already active in the state, and that hierarchy is never, ever changing. Ravens, Terps, Mids, and everyone else.

I was referring to every game, not one specific event. Towson Football is irrelevant. Students don't care. Alumni don't care. Population of Baltimore doesn't care.
Is your assertion that 95% of college athletics does not make money your best argument for keeping the $8.5 million dollar football program intact which brings in less than $750,000 gross a year? I'll do you one better, in that there is not a single program in FCS that turns a profit, not even NDSU. FCS Football is a complete and total waste of time and resources for a school that has declining enrollment and budget challenges in the main mission of the University, which is academics. So, Towson would be better off scrapping the football program, reducing the student athletics fee by 50%, and being better stewards of the budget dollars that they have since funds are obviously not coming into athletics from alumni giving.

Marketing is the least of the concerns. You could be placing Hillary Clinton-sized ad buys and it would not move the needle. Marketing is treating the symptom and not the disease, which is dumping millions of dollars into a football program that has no ROI for the University. The students are apathetic, the alumni do not engage, and Baltimore City has not clue one that anyone other than "Joe Flacco's Brother" is on the team. But I am sure someone will educate us about the major value of being on the Sun Sports Section page 6, right next to the Oil Change and Massage Ads.

Why would Towson need to move to the A10? The goal is to WIN the league you are in, so if the CAA is watered down and Towson can win it every year, I'd take that. For each game a team plays in the NCAA Tournament, its conference gets a payout, spread over six years. For playing one game the team's conference gets roughly $1.7 million. In the CAA the team that plays the game gets 1/2 of that number, and if you win one game the $$$ go up. If a team makes it all the way to the final game, it can earn as many as five units, totaling $8.3 million.
Also, Baltimore is the #26 media market, Richmond is around the mid 50's, so yeah, Baltimore is a much better media market for a conference than Richmond, or Spokane, WA, which is #76 and the home of Gonzaga. VCU was gobbled up by the A10 because they were a good basketball program and a natural local rival for the University of Richmond. The A10 already has 14 teams, so there is little reason to add two more schools to the media mix as that means less money for everyone. The A10 is not raking in the bucks.

The football program is hardly relevant in the eyes of the students, who are all paying the Athletics Fee of $499, which supports 20 NCAA D1 intercollegiate sports. In total, 87% of the Towson Athletics Budget of $24,795,399 (in 2018) comes from student fees and other institutional support. In Exchange for this support students are admitted free to all TU sporting events. Few, if any sports fans in Baltimore consider Towson Football to be a part of their life to the degree that they will actually buy a ticket and attend a game. There is no data that would say that Towson Athletics success of any kind influences additional admissions. This is reality. Moving Football to FBS would not change that as even then the program would not be competing for a national championship as we would not be in the Power 5. It would cost a lot more money in salaries, scholarships, staff, and stadium infrastructure, and would, in theory, put a lot of stress on the surrounding roads and such which are not built to handle such traffic.
Given a current enrollment of 22,923 students and over 165,000 alumni, we only saw an "announced" crowd of 4,807 come to the U on Saturday to watch the #9 ranked Tigers play Albany. Seeing that students get in FREE, that number is not indicative of being "somewhat relevant". In 50 years of play the Towson Football team has been to NCAA postseason play seven times, D3: 1976 / D2: 1983-84-86 / D1-FCS: 2011-13-18. As much as it pains me to say, no one cares about who wins the FCS Championship the same way no one cares who wins or plays in the bowl game over in Annapolis each year.
Contrast that with men's basketball having been played for 60 years, and has made the NCAA Postseason Play in 1977-78-90-91 and other postseason tournaments in 2014-16, for a total of 6 appearances. Pat Skerry has coached the Tigers for 9 seasons, has had 5 winning seasons (3rd best behind Angotti (7) and Truax (6). Skerry has the most 20 or more win seasons with 3, and he took over following 15 straight losing seasons from Terry Truax, The Jas man, Michael not Mike Hunt, and Pat's Cats Kennedy, the later of which also pushed Towson into NCAA Academic Probation.
Considering the football program is costing Towson more than $8.5 million a year and plays in the FCS, which is not even D1 football (no bowls, and will never, ever have a chance to compete for the national title that the public recognizes) and men's basketball is roughly 1/3 of that cost and has change to actually compete for a national championship, I'd say the men's & women's basketball +men's and women's lacrosse programs are a far better investment and have much more chance for national recognition as they actually at some point can play in the real national championship tournaments for their 4 sports.

Uh, not even close. The 500K pays RA's salary/benefits plus one of the bottom assistants. Towson is spending around $8.8 million dollars a year on football.

100% correct. There are no buyouts at Towson. Ever. Why? There are no revenues at Towson to pay the buyouts, even if the football team makes the playoffs and wins the whole thing it's no profit football.

I mean with the alternate uniforms, white helmets, and a full staff of coaches personally selected by Rob, albeit for the third time as he's cycled through more than 31 coaches in the last 11 years, can you imagine the droves of high quality Maryland High School Football Talent that is chomping at the bit to sign on the line which is dotted and turn their careers over to the same guy who molded Terrance West into the breakout NFL player that he is today. That forever bond between Rob and Terrance is the iconic microcosm of what the program under Rob is all about. Two great football talents, Maryland born and bred, with a true father-son bond, always on the same page and working together to deliver Tiger Football and TU to the brink of a national championship. Four years of futility later, the program marches back to the NCAA Playoffs in 2018, only to fall to the top FCS team in the Steel City of Pittsburgh, perrinial football juggernaut Duquesne. Now, in his 11th season and on his all-time high 4th contract as head coach, paying him over $375,000 a year, Rob Ambrose is thrilling us all with his high octane offense and a bone-bruising defense which today held Albany to only 511 yards in front of a massive crowd of 4,807 fans on a 70 degree cloudy, but non rainy day in October.

We are the #9 team in the nation. You people are just negative nellys. You are ignoring all of the positives. Rob Ambrose is the guy who singlehandedly has made Towson Football what it stodgy. He has led this program to 41 wins in 86 games as head coach and 39 CAA wins in 83 games, by far the winningest head coach ever in our long history. Runk, Albert, Combs - none of these guys can hold a candle to Rob's football IQ, personality, or ability to unify the Towson students and alumni behind this program. 4,807 fans jammed into The U today. Even with the loss, this was a chamber of commerce day for Towon Athletics.

Lay off Rob, he is the head coach of our #9 ranked team and the best thing our athletics department has going for it. If anything he should be made the AD and paid more so we can lock him down and keep him over all of Towson Athletics.

Offense and defense we are both horrible.
You need to be looking at the positive points of today's game.
First, the Tiger Marching Band is awesome. John Miliauskas is one of the most respected musicians in Maryland. The way that this band has mastered the show that they perform week in, week, out, year after year, is awe inspiring. The original take on the ESPN theme song is also loved by students and alumni, and is globally recognized as a tradition, unique to Towson.
As for football, we were +1 on turnovers, this is a positive.
We averaged 41.7 yards per punt on our 7 punts. Impressive.
We had 6 different receivers catch balls from Tom.
Our Offensive Line only gave up 3 sacks on 33 pass plays, which is nice.
Our offense was 2-2 in the red zone.
We made all 3 extra points and did not miss a field goal.
Our defense stopped Albany on all 3 4th down plays. Way to step up.
Big things are on the horizon... stay the course.
What we need for our program to get positive is to sign Rob to a long-term deal as there are ADs out there who want to pluck him away. Do the right thing TL, sign Rob up and lock him down.

Rob Ambrose is a great football coach and an alumnus of Towson University. As such he deserves to remain the head coach as he is doing a great job. 4,800 is a great crowd and is another sign that Tim Leonard should be pulling out all of the stops to move up to FBS and getting us in a major conference. Baltimore's Football Fans are All In on the Tigers. Today's loss is a blip on the radar as the day is quickly approaching that Towson Tiger Football will be on top. I was impressed with the atmosphere around the stadium today, the tailgating, and most of all the students who made a football Saturday on campus the centerpiece of their weekend social calendar.
