we are all different I guess. I would like the other teams best player to play as little as possible.

Statistically speaking it's a wash.  Teams do not gain a possession in the game by choosing heads or tails.  It's just broken up differently.  Time of Possession is also a misleading stat as having the ball longer means nothing if you score on special teams, score on defense, or score quickly when you have the ball.

  2. Towson has not recorded two wins over teams with a winning record in the same season but 1 time since 2013.  Elon is #5, James Madison is #10.  Does anyone truly feel like we are about to  record back to back wins over a pair of Top 10 opponents following what you have seen over the last two weeks.... four years?

    Bye Felicia!

  3. It makes no difference about getting the ball at the beginning of the 1st or 2nd half - it's symantics.  The defense needs to get a stop.  Towson has a poor defense.  Elon and JMU are about to expose us for what we are, a mediocre football team that fails to beat teams that have a winning record. 0-6 so far in 2018 in the category. 1 win against a team with a winning record in 2017 (Delaware), 1 win against a team with a winning record in 2016 (St Francis),  3 wins against teams with a winning record in 2015 (St Francis, Holy Cross & Villanova), and 1 win against a team with a winning record in 2014 (NC Central).  That's only 6 wins over the last 5 years against teams with records over .500.  Weak.

  4. 6-1 start was against sub par competition.  None of the 6 wins are against anyone with a winning record.

Tough loss on the road last week after having a 15 point lead and less than 17 minutes to go.

Then what happened today, at home, on Homecoming, allbeit against a solid Maine team.

No playoffs for this bunch. No chance.

  5. Following the 2017 season Tim Leonard sat Rob Ambrose down and forced him to make staff changes.  This was the 4th straight year that the Tigers missed the NCAA Playoffs.

The 2018 season got off to a great start at 6-1. That was a little deceiving in that ALL of those teams have losing records.

Game 8 of the year saw Towson blow a 15 point lead on the road to Delaware, giving up 34 second half points with their first CAA loss of the year.

Game 9 of the year saw Towson drop a 35-28 game to nationally ranked Maine on Homecoming punctuated by a brutal play calling & game management display inside the Black Bear 8 yard line inside of a minute to go.

Game 10 next week will be on the road at Elon, a team which is 6-2 overall and ranked #6 in the nation.

Game 11 is back at home against a limping JMU team that turned the ball over 6 times and got popped today at New Hampshire.  JMU has Rhode Island next weekend at home and then comes to Towson and likely will need to win both to make it back to the playoffs after playing for in the title game the last two years.

Rob Ambrose's contract runs through the 2020 season, or two more years... Ambrose Contract Extension Story / Baltimore Sun

The Tigers have not been back to the playoffs since 2013, missing in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and likely now, in 2018

IF YOU ARE TIM LEONARD, and the Tigers LOSE THE LAST FOUR GAMES OF THE SEASON, what is your play?

    A. Do you eat the last two years of the contract and start over with a new staff?

    B. Do you bring Rob Ambrose & all staff back and hope for the best in 2019?

    C. Do you force even more staff changes? (Finally get rid of Little Brother)

    D. Something else... __________________________________

  6. Spiro - thanks for doing the shows.  People do not realize how much change has gone on with personnel inside of the department over the last two years.  Mike Gathagan was just hired last week and there is no one in the Football SID office now that has been at Towson more than 3 months. Give them some time to get their feet wet.

  7. 2018 comes down to this... 3 games to go against top tier opponents in the CAA.

    MAINE
    @ Elon
    JAMES MADISON

Two home games out of three weeks.

    Great Quarterback.

    Suspect Defense.

    Average Special Teams.

Win 2 out of 3 and get back to the playoffs. Lose 2 out of 3, or all 3 (which would be the last 4 God Forbid) and you stay home and miss the playoffs for a 5th straight year.

My bet is Towson beats Maine, loses to Elon and JMU and then misses out on the postseason at 7-4 and losing 3 of the last 4 games. When you limp down the stretch it's hard to get a break from the Committee when you are not New Hampshire.

Towson controls it's own destiny, and let one get away today that they never ever should have lost.

Blowing a 15 point lead with 15:11 left in the game is, unfortunately, to my experience, a sign of poor coaching and the failure to adjust to the game as it is playing out.  It's one of the unfortunate Hallmarks of the Ambrose Era.

  8. Not a lot of action, only 2 carries - all from the 8:00 mark and down in the 4th quarter, but T-West gets 21 of his 26 yards on this bounce left.

    https://www.neworleanssaints.com/video/terrance-west-rushes-outside-for-a-21-yard-gain

Not looking good that he will stick in the Big Easy but he still has two games to make his mark, assuming he does not get cut first.

West bounced back from a five-carry, 10-yard effort in the first week of the preseason, but his lack of involvement prior to the fourth quarter suggests he's on the outside looking in. Jonathan Williams is making a strong case to work alongside Alvin Kamara while Mark Ingram serves a four-game suspension, and it probably doesn't make sense to keep a third/fourth-string running back in the mold of West, who doesn't offer much as a pass catcher or special teamer. Williams, Shane Vereen and Boston Scott are all better fits behind the explosive Ingram-Kamara duo.

  9. I've been watching this thread for 3 days and it's pretty sad.  Pat Skerry has been at Towson for 7 years and has 5 winning seasons.  Before Skerry Towson had 16 straight losing seasons.  That being said, I would say his staff now is not what the first staff was with guys like Johnson, Simpkins, and Murray - all had major recruiting chops and reputations with AAU coaches up and down the East Coast.  It all comes down to recruiting, you get the right guys, you win games, you don't and you don't.  May be time to shake up the staff and get some Dudes who can bring in the talent.

As for the other Tiger head coaches who have been fired of late, all were consistent losers.  Erricker, major underachiever and as was mentioned earlier, is successor came in and immediately won big.  Gottlieb, had one good season out of his last 10 = a fluke.  Paynter had 10 consecutive losing seasons. Ambrose has 4 straight losing seasons and would appear to be the most likely of the current coaches to be on the chopping block, but he has another 4 years left on his current deal so that's not happening.

Skerry contract extension this past December was a bit odd in that who really gets a contract extension in December? That being said, Skerry has a 100-percent graduation rate, and Towson had a perfect four-year score in the latest Academic Progress Rate numbers released last summer. The Tigers also earned recognition from the NCAA for scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. Coming off the Pat Kennedy years where he had 7 straight losing seasons and so poor an academic performing program that we were banned from the CAA Tournament in 2013, I'd say we are in a much better place now that at any time since Truax was the head coach and we were going to the NCAA Tournament.
