    ODU Postgame

Gorham looked so improved in that Bucknell exhibition match, so I'm surprised at his stats (didn't see game tonight) vs ODU. It sounds like their frontcourt was perhaps bigger and/or simply outplayed ours.. But bottom line in this one - looks like Martin and Morsell came prepared, but the rest were just incapable. Whether it was rust, nagging injuries, nerves, bad matchups, hostile environment or what, who knows. Ek's probably the best driver this season, so I'd say he was the one to get the ball to - if we can beg borrow or steal a feeder competent enough to dish.

    MBB Preview from TT.com

Would like to see these Tigers have an improved full court press which, considering the athleticism of this year's team, could translate into forced turnovers, steals, &/or points.

    LAX SCHEDULE

Towson's MLax schedule for 2018 appears once again challenging, especially the OOC portion. Huge losses on offense are cause for concern, but coach Nadelen somehow finds a way to pull the rabbit out of the hat every season. The games against JHU, Denver and especially OSU are worth anticipating. The latter should showcase a healthy Woodall @ F/O against the Buckeyes this time around. Clearly we'll need some kids to step up on O if we're to be in the post-season hunt.

I was so very impressed w Gorham's play today! He looked like quite capable in taking Moto's place, and his inside threat plus Morsell and other guards outside stretched BU's defense.. Felt Prophete has a ways to go to be a defender. But he got his first (albeit exhibition) bucket as did Ingram. Ingram DID appear very athletic at times, as you said Matt.. SPECTACULAR, convincing dunk by Eddie K on a lightning feed from up front was the highest highlight of the game, (besides somebody for BU hitting an NBA 3).!!! Thomas was able to play and did a decent job. But Tunstall sat out along w Drayton; maybe TUNSTALL was the big that was injured? I feel our full court press isn't there yet, and the defense play overall was hot & cold, especially early.. I'm guessing about 300 people came, incl Schatzell and the A. D., plus a sizeable/vocal Bison contigent.

MBB to host Bucknell on Oct 28

True, an exhibition game doesn’t chalk up in the official W/L column; plus you don’t want to risk any injuries just now, like with Thomas as you pointed out. But I hope the players will try to show their best game, and believe Skerry and the Bison coach won’t want to come out on the embarrassing & demoralizing end of too lopsided an affair, even if only an exhibition. They’ll want to get a different perspective on the new guys, experiment and test various offensive, defensive schemes. And if it’s advertised as a game with referees, and a (suggested) cost of $5, I think it’s fair to assume the coaches are going to gauge something from it. Great to have this rare October opportunity! Together with the Canadian trip, these guys have been literally “on the ball” quite a lot since last March in keeping the rust off.

MBB to host Bucknell on Oct 28

Looking over Bucknell's MBb website, my impression is we're in for a tough match. Possibly the two best players in the Patriot League with their PF & center, both seniors. Their 6'-10" center averaged 15.5ppg & 7.8rpg last year, and looks 2B the real deal. The 6'-7" PF was MVP in their conference tournament. The 1, 2 & 3 spots are all returning starters. The Bison have dominated their conference in MBb the last 7 years or so. They lost 80-86 to #4 WVU in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament earlier this year.. How do we challenge these guys? My guess is our guards and SF will have to step up and w luck, balance things out in the Tigers' favor. I'm assuming our secret weapon this season will be guard depth, and so perhaps we can press them and w so many substitutions tire them out.. Up front, we'll have to do our best to avoid foul trouble, and try to retain our rebounding forte of the last few years. It'll be interesting to see how EK handles these equally seasoned players, who have the height advantage and appear very skilled.. For what it's worth, we can try to take the meager advantage of having the home court.

    Practice Update from Coach Skerry

Simply sounds like the core or main carry-overs are topping PS's list; so nothing unexpected there.. Hoping MBb doesn't fall into the same dilemma as football. If just one of these newcomers can step up offensively, then I feel we'll be competitive. That's all I personally would ask if this year, because I've a hunch this isn't "THE year"; I thought that was 2013-14.. Minimum requirements for a decent season: win a min of 55-60% of games; @ least 1 newbie progresses to a point where by Feb 1st they R consistently contributing in some fashion (esp points); Martin & (esp) Morsell both improve even more offensively.

    Javonni Bickham

MLax has been my favorite (Towson or otherwise) for decades. Didn't mean to overlook them, except that the $$ & school recognition won't be there nearly as much for a national championship in lax as it would be for hoops. The flip side of course is, it's so much easier to get to the semi-finals in MLax (3x for Towson to date) than MBb (never got past the 1st Round in '90 & '91, the only 2 years we've qualified)... We certainly have good coaches these last 4-5 years in both sports; better than Ambrose, who did take us to the pinacle, but seems to have lost his mojo now.

I know I'm likely in the minority on this, but I'd prefer us being a school with MBb as our flagship sport, not football; a' la UConn, UMass, Temple, Drexel, Kentucky, etc.. I was right there pulling for and enjoying that championship year w TW and the few years preceding it, as well as much further back with Crowley, Hollingsworth, Lee, Orlando, Meggett & Landetta, et al.. But so much $$ has been spent on football and such emphasis placed on that sport; and if only a fraction of those resources were given over to MBb, I think we'd be into the Dance by now. We spread our re$ource$ so thin that we're not making much headway in ANY of the men's sports... On a side note, I miss Men's Soccer a lot! Just sad to think they are no more

    Scrimmage update

Matt, 3 quick ones: 1. You say Morsell might play at the 4? Is his ht & wt at the level for that now?!.. In any case, i (I'm sure we ALL!) hope this will finally be his shining year we've been anticipating! 2. Speaking of wt, hopefully Tunstall has filled out some. Last year he had a lot of good things going for him, but lack of weight/musculature was holding him back.. 3. If Prophete lacks speed, and his "role" puts somewhat of a clamp on his (potential) stellar shooting, then it sounds clear that the more experienced Rolle is the better choice backup @ the 1, no?

OFFICIAL CELEBRATION THREAD -- TOWSON 10, MORGAN 0

Offensive line was one of the top assets of the National Championship team a few years ago (altho give some credit to West for making them look even better). Same coach (other Ambrose) for offense as then, though I don't know who was or is now the O-Line coach. But that's of course a key to establishing a running game, but also pass protection. So much of the focus on remediating the O in general should start the the line, IMHO.

OFFICIAL CELEBRATION THREAD -- TOWSON 10, MORGAN 0

Naturally happy for the shutout win. The way it was achieved however, wow; this game was an eye opener, unveiling so many problem parts to the puzzle. Six days to figure out improvements. Then one he'll of a test. Just praying we're not walloped unmercifully.
  15. Matt, while EK has the weight, a 4 that's 6'5" is going to be handicapped, wouldn't you say?.. Meanwhile somebody needs to give Tunstall a season gift certificate to Pizza Palace (or if they're gone, LOTSA) as it sure wouldn't hurt for him to boost his wt.. John James was pretty good his senior year at 6'-8" / 180#; but that was Div I from 27 years ago; kids are bigger today, I fear for an injury..

Excellent news on the finale. Skerry & staff have to be pleased, plus it's great for the players to get this much practice & playing time together w a valuable boost in confidence here in mid-August.. Assuming Chatman travelled w team (as Kilee T used to) & put Sanders in the boot.

    MBB beats Carleton, 76-64

Took 3 of 4 including the "upset", good practice & playing experience, coaches got a good look at the good and the bad, plus add in the sightseeing - all in all, a successfull and beneficial outing for the team, I believe.

With 5RB & 2 steals also, Tunstall continues to impress. A bit more offense, together with few more (like 15) pounds and continued experience and he'll be a complete package.. Ingram shows some good stats also. But Prophete didn't see the floor.

Sanders didn't play in Game 2, but appears like he's ready to play THIS season. However, to clarify, he's ineligible for 2017-18, correct?.. Must say, I like the way Gorham and Tunstall have come up in the program since 9 months ago! "The future".. With luck, Prophete, Drayton and Ingram will develop similarly as they watch from the guys in front of them..

    Summer basketball practice update

Looking forward to the season. Any chance ordinary fans can catch a practice sometime between now and Nov 1st?.. Last season, I was both surprised and impressed by how Keith's skill set developed. In '15-'16, he didn't seem like he was going to go anywhere, but he really contributed more & more as last season went on. Ditto for him bulking into a hoss - not many would want to have that freight train bearing down on them.. How did McNeil look, Matt?

    MLax transfers

The Twitter snapshot is about Monahan, ok.. But the link is for the giant goalie, Canto. Is he transferring from UMass-Lowell to TU as well? From what it says. Sounds good, yet leaves one curious why he'd go to UMass-Lowell, 4-12 last spring in Div-I. Guessing Nads & Co have him sized up as better than upper tier lax schools thought he was; gotta trust the coach, as Nadelen could hardly be doing better.. Maybe the kid's girlfriend promoted him, saying "size matters"..
