Great win for the Tigers
-
1,428 days since Towson was last active in the FCS Playoffs.
Today, CAA members James Madison, New Hampshire, and Stony Brook will all be in action.
Added bonus, former Tiger DC Matt Hachmann will be coaching today in the playoffs for Stony Brook.

BREAKING: Towson head coach, Coach Rob Ambrose, has turned down Tennessee’s offer to be their new head football coach. Early reports indicate he considered the position, but was told that he could not bring his Lil' bro Jammer. Towson will extend Ambrose's contract for another 4 years, bringing the total time left on the deal to 6 years, which will be the key to a great recruiting class in 18 days with the early signing period. Several Vol players to be named later will also be coming to Towson as they want to play for the prolific offense that has been on display for the past 4 years of no playoff football.

Good note on Riley.

I put in Jackson over Lamonica only because Lamonica took over a program that was at the top and has kept it there, as opposed to Jackson who took over a program that had nver achieved anything of note and made it into a CAA champion in year #2.

Nice win. Been a long time since Towson Basketball won a tournament.

With 100 players odds are there will be some crappy students, but they are definitely better now. The football team actually saw a huge bump in their GPA last year, and classes aren't any easier than they were before.
If there was cheating going on at Towson, they really sucked at it cause we litterally have had 3 good years of football out of the last 20.

good enough. happy thanksgiving

What say ye Ed Molen? Is Rob going to make a change with Jammer?

Getting student-athletes to sign because they want to play, be students, and meeting parents looking for a good place for their child to learn. The level of student this staff brings in is consistently higher than it ever was (when I got here "cheating doesn't count if you don't get caught" was a thing), and it's pretty awesome. Of course winning matters on this board, and I'd like to see it happen, but really, at Towson, it doesn't matter all that much to me.

As to the rest of Andy's Ghost's wish list...
(1) A new offensive coordinator; Rob will never fire his brother. Jammer returns in 2018 unless he gets a job elsewhere, which is unlikely.
(2) A tandem of 200+ pound RB’s who can move the pile & absorb the inherent punishment attendant to the position; 200 lbs backs with speed, talent and ability grow on trees, why not ask for 3, plus an NFL caliber QB and some FBS wideouts.
(3) More explosive plays (20+ yards) from the passing game see above - hard to have explosive plays without explosive players with speed.
(4) An influx of talent on the D-Line. Wish in one hand, poop in the other... which one fills up first?

5 playoff teams from the CAA is a stretch.
http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/fcs-football/bracketology
These projections have JMU, Stony Brook, Elon, and UNH in the fold.
CAA is the #2 FCS Conference rated by Sagarin:
15 MISSOURI VALLEY (AA)= 61.61 59.11 10 ( 15)
18 COLONIAL (AA)= 54.36 55.06 12 ( 19)
21 BIG SKY (AA)= 51.15 50.30 13 ( 21)
23 IVY LEAGUE (AA)= 47.34 47.13 8 ( 23)
24 SOUTHERN (AA)= 46.99 45.48 9 ( 24)
25 BIG SOUTH (AA)= 45.06 44.79 6 ( 25)
26 SOUTHLAND (AA)= 41.29 41.48 11 ( 26)

The Redshirts are Coming... The Redshirts are Coming... The Redshirts are Coming...
Towson Football's motto now seems to be "I know we didn't make the playoffs again, but just wait until the redshirts and the players to be named later hit the field, then we will be back"
2014 - No playoffs
2015 - No playoffs
2016 - No playoffs
2017 - No playoffs
2018 - No players left on the roster who have any postseason experience - but they have a lot of reps in games where Towson has lost games.
But hey, we were close. Love those moral victories. -
If we are looking to recruiting to be a big boost, why would anyone who is truly an immediate impact player sign early at an FCS school? This new early period for football seems to be more geared towards a top tier player more than an FCS target. I mean really, if a kid was on the edge of being FBS talented why would they sign early with an FCS school if waiting through the early period would give them 5 more weeks of opportunities at a larger program, offering more $ than the partial scholarships that Towson offers? Anyone that would sign early at an FCS school has no other options, so they are not going to be top tier immediate impact players.

After the 1-0 start in the "Battle of Bumblemore" this schedule gets tougher.
Wake Forest is not a joke, and the Citadel plays triple option which requires discipline, poise, and fundamentals, not our strong suit.
The Stony Brook game is going to be a big one, Hachmann vs The Ambrose Brothers.
JMU is a solid L.
Hard to see a path to a winning record here.
2018 Towson University Football Schedule: 3-8, 2-6 in the CAA
Sept. 1 @ Morgan State TBA Hard to see how the Tigers lose this one Sept. 8 @ Wake Forest TBA 1-1 Sept. 15 @ Villanova* TBA 1-2, 0-1 Sept. 29 The Citadel TBA 1-3, 0-1 Oct. 6 Stony Brook* TBA My pick for the pivotal game of the season. 1-4, 0-2 Oct. 13 William & Mary* TBA Rob has Laycocks' number, 2-4, 1-2 Oct. 20 @ Albany* TBA Road game letdown, Danes have solid young team. 2-5, 1-3 Oct. 27 @ Delaware* TBA Hen's revenge, 2-6, 1-4 and Towson eliminated from playoff contention Nov. 3 Maine* TBA Toss-up, let's give it to the home team, 3-6, 2-4 Nov. 10 @ Elon* TBA Let down, 3-7, 2-5 Nov. 17 James Madison TBA What could be the final game of the Ambrose tenure, epic beatdown. 3-8, 2-6
Does Ambrose survive a 5th straight year of missing the playoffs?
-
Better get a win against Morgan State or this could well be an 0-6 start.
-
Nice win indeed over a rival. Strong offense down the final 2 drives of the game and super 3rd down call on the touchdown. Earlier 2 pt call was strong as well. Nice assist from the turf in stopping the UD QB on the last drive as without the turf monster grabbing his toes he gets another 20 yards and we lose this game. Credit due though, nice win. Avoiding a 2-9 record is nice and it's always a good thing to beat UD. 3-5 with 4 to go.
Now comes a defining moment. Did this team "grow up" as eTiger suggests, or was this a homecoming win over a team that overlooked us and left us hanging around?
at Elonat William & Mary
Rhode Island
Take 2 of these 3, finish 5-6, and you have something to build on.
Win all 3, and end the season with a winning record, and you may have some momentum for the off-season and recruiting.
Go 1-2, and there are some real issues that must be addressed ASAP.
Go 0-3, and we are pretty much where most people thought we were.

Don Metl has proven to be a great coach. I like the way his teams play and show unity.

Here's hoping the young man from Texas Tech / FGCU has his life in order. This is a Ace/Ass scenario as if he works out, and makes the most of a 3rd chance, Skerry looks good. If not, Towson as a whole looks desperate to have taken on a kid with so much baggage. On the surface, multiple larcenies is not exactly a resume that we should be welcoming in. I want to win, but not with people with a myriad of criminal mistakes in their past.

I expect a coach to push the envelope, but where is the oversight from the President and AD. If this blows up, all of them have egg on their collective faces.

When you cant even admit that FCS is a tough sell.................................Having a discussion with as negative a person as one could find produces nothing positive. I do hope at some point you can find the half full part of the glass....like what our coach does for his student athletes. Have a good day.
Tough sell? Absolutely. The numbers above prove that. No argument there.
Is FCS the right place for Towson? Absolutely. Why? FCS is not Towson's problem, that's many fold.

Actually, ND State was 5th in attendance last year in FCS, but don't let the facts get in the way of your entertaining, yet off balance take.
FCS Attendance, 2016 - Top 5
1. Montana,
25,377
2. James Madison
19,844
3. Florida A&M
19,710
4. Jackson St.
19,660
5. North Dakota St.
18,556
The average attendance for the CAA was 9,232 in 2016.
Towson's average attendance was 5,703 in 2016, down considerably every year since 2011.
2008 - 4,980 > Last year of Coach Combs
2009 - 6,283, +26%
2010 - 7,107, +13%
2011 - 8,949, +26%
2012 - 8,691, -3%
2013 - 8,473, -2.5%
2014 - 7,288, -13.9%
2015 - 6,594, -9.52%
2016 - 5,703, -13.53%
2017 - 5,783
And so far this year, 5,783, which so far is a gain of +80 fans per game. Delaware and Rhode Island games still to come, so unless there is a push at the end of the year it could end up as a 10-year low for attendance.
