MBB Steals one from Drexel, 59-58 to improve to 3-4 in the CAA
AtlantaTiger replied to mat1992's topic in Tiger Basketball
Some of y'all need to pump the brakes on the praise you're heaping on Towson for the comeback over Drexel. This is a prime example of the low-standard mindset we have as a program. Three short months ago we were the overwhelming favorites to win the CAA. According to the preseason Coaches poll, we had 7 1st place votes as the top team. Towson was a media darling in multiple mid-major rankings with several outlets predicting we'd finally make it back to the Big Dance. College hoop "experts" were posting on social media about us in the most glowing ways. TT was being hailed as the preseason POY in the CAA. Yesterday, we had to scrap and claw to get past a Drexel team that was picked to finish 10th in the CAA preseason polls and had a losing record coming into the game. We've looked dreadful, DREADFUL, in more games than this season than we've looked competent. TT has been pedestrian at best so far. But here we go with the rose-colored glasses after a 3-game win streak. I know I only speak for myself but I no longer care about them winning games on random Monday or Thursday nights in January. This program has proven time and time again that success in the regular season is no harbinger for what they'll do in the conference tourney. Pat Skerry and this program no longer get the benefit of the doubt. Until he wins the CAA Tourney, this is all just a repeat of all the other seasons he's come up short. This team hasn't done anything we haven't already seen from previous Pat Skerry teams. Just. Win. The tournament. -
I was at the Gonzaga vs. Pepperdine game over the holidays. Gorgeous campus but a total dump of an arena. The new place can’t come soon enough. Also, the team is dreadful enough that they deserve to be listed twice on this list.

I’m almost certain UMass holds the distinction of being the worst FBS program….and it’s by a considerably wide margin too.

Good for him, genuinely happy for him…hope he has an opportunity to shine there.

Great size. Need more big boys!

I’ll ask again, how many of us are willing to draft an email to Eigenbrot (with President Ginsberg Cc’d) voicing our extreme displeasure and complete lack of confidence in Pat Skerry and the recent state of the men’s basketball team? I fully understand nothing will likely come of it. Skerry is unfortunately not going anywhere any time soon. The point is that if 10-15 grumpy emails hit Eigenbrot’s inbox on the same day/week all expressing the same sentiment that Skerry is inept, and that he (Eigenbrot) appears to be asleep at the wheel and seemingly content with mediocrity after FIFTEEN YEARS, perhaps we can at least let them know people who actually care about TU athletics are beyond disgusted. Enough is enough.

MBB falls at W&M 84-70 despite late comeback

If there were some kind of petition or letter to the AD voicing a desire for leadership change for the men's basketball team, how many of us on here would sign it? Financial hurdles and practicality aside, even if it was an exercise in complete futility, who among us would put their name of that document? I would. -
Bay Area Tiger, I’m taking in a little WCC basketball tonight. I’m in Thousand Oaks, CA visiting some family and I decided to get tickets for the Gonzaga/Pepperdine game. I can confirm that despite its beautiful campus, Pepperdine has a terrible basketball are arena. Firestone Fieldhouse is a disaster. However, they are getting a new arena next year. Pepperdine is a terrible team. Towson would beat Pepperdine by at least 15.

Indorf sounds & looks like he's a hostage making a proof-of-life video. Could definitely use a little bit of PR coaching. Give me a little more personality and charisma, kid!

I guess my ultimate point is that, unlike UNCW, we don’t make NCAA Tournaments nor do we score periodic marquee OOC upset wins. In the absence of tourney appearances wouldn’t it be nice to say that we at least, on occasion, beat a big-name school during the regular season? Not every season, that would be a crazy expectation, but maybe every 3 or 4 years we do it. Conversely, I really wouldn’t care all that much about beating a big-name school if we were making the NCAA Tournament, every 3 or 4 years. Unfortunately, we don’t do either thing. Since 2000, UNCW has made 7 tournaments. Since 2010 alone, they’ve either made the big dance and/or beat a Big 6 conference team 5x. 2010: Beat Wake, 2016: Big Dance, 2017: Big Dance, 2023: Beat Kentucky, 2025: Big Dance Meanwhile we get fat on steamrolling lesser opponents and splitting season series with the other conference heavyweights. I love Towson basketball but, if we’re being honest, we are one of the most spectacularly mediocre college basketball programs in the country. I want more for and from this program.

I could be mistaken (please correct me if I am) but Towson's record against big boy conference teams (ACC, B1G, SEC, Big XII, the conference formerly known as PAC-10 and Big East) since the 2010-2011 season is 1-30. Thirty-one cracks at glory and a one win to show for it. Ugly.

Always fun to see the “little guy” take down a big boy. Props to Purdue-Fort Wayne of the Horizon League for beating Notre Dame earlier today…..not the Notre Dame that our Tigers beat a few days ago, the actual Fighting Irish of NOTRE DAME.

As of 9:30pEST, Nova is getting absolutely worked by Illinois State. Yikes.

Watching Delaware in their bowl game tonight. I’m pulling for the Hens. Good for them, their university leadership, their fans, their athletic admins, their alumni……everyone who had the vision and ambition to elevate their program. Must be nice.

What’s the old saying, “If ifs and buts were candy & nuts….”? As Towson basketball fans it’s the same story over & over for us….”If only this person steps up a bit more”…..”If we make a few more of those point-blank layups”….”We didn’t shoot well from the field BUT we showed more grit than the last time we played a power program.” This team is a finished product, I wouldn’t expect dramatic improvements from any of these dudes over the next two months. The offense looks disjointed, haphazard, clunky and confused. Too often they look lost and unsure of what they’re trying to do with the ball, the shot clock runs down and they just hurl a prayer at the rim. Truly, the only games that matter moving forward are the conference tournament games. Just. Win. The tournament.

Easy drive over to Columbia from Atlanta. I’ll be there to see LaNorris Sellers face a stout, revamped Towson D. His Heisman dream ends on 9/12/26. 😉

BAT, I sincerely admire and appreciate your unbridled, relentless enthusiasm and optimism for the Tigers, regardless of how irrational it may be. Don't ever change! I, on the other hand will be shocked (and impressed) if we're within 25 points of Kansas at the end of the game.
-
Unfortunately, I feel a 97-43 loss coming for the Tigers.....in front of a prime-time national audience.
-
Don’t get me wrong, the B2B wins were very nice and the guys deserve credit for that….but beating a legitimate, historic “blue blood” like Cuse on their home court, regardless of them having a down year, is waaaaay better than any non-conference win we’ve had in the Skerry era.

I think everyone is done pretending that college sports are "amateur" and it's now widely accepted that things are being managed as a professional corporate endeavor. As such, the vernacular is going to change to things that sound more corporate. With Utah recently getting into bed with a private equity firm, athletes attempting to form unions, NIL money, schools hiring General Managers and Directors of Player Personnel ....it's all changing at warp-speed.
