    Assuming Hicks gets the assignment?

Any word on Gibby and his back?  After today we have “3” in a row come Friday so I gotta assume Gibby not gonna play Saturday to rest his back.

Thought Hicks looked masterful in tying up Sessoms this evening. A lot of sometimes wild, sometimes brilliant crosscourt passing by both teams. May and Conway got some time in this one, and while not esp impactful, I felt they were impressive; once they see some more action, they'll develop nicely. 5-0 for a start - in my 33 years as a fan, I cant remember that success rate before. Just Hope Gibson will return to action soon..

  2. Good point Matt - Danes' passing was at times really formidable; I think they turned out 2B a stronger test than anyone expected. I'd give credit for the win to our defense in the final 6mins which gradually closed its Tiger jaws on these fast-paced Albany dogs.. One needed improvement - if Hicks can ever provide some offense, it would be helpful; but i have faith in his future with the team.

  3. That was quite the brutal brawl, w more serious fouls than any two MBb games I've ever witnessed at Towson - akin to Ali & Joe Frazier! The Danes seemed to particularly have targeted Holden..

I too agree, Charles seemed intimidated or just distracted near the basket. Not the best night for him.. For a good stretch late in the 2nd half, it was more mayhem than basketball, with both sides out of sync, out of sorts, and struggling w ball control.. Skerry was afraid to use more than 7 players - wondering what that indicates?

  4. As I see it, it's a question of remove and replace: Nolan, Gray and Rizzuto are out. Can Russell, Sylla, Conway, a more experienced Coleman + May fill those shoes. Clearly Nolan will be hardest to sub for.. It's expected that the remaining 7 experienced players have the skills and know-how to glue this whole thing together..

Hoping for a blowout confidence-building opener, with sharp passing, lock down D, and a rain of treys..

VERY excited after 8 months of jockeying, wondering and waiting to see what we've got! Also hoping for a raucous crowd.

Wasn't the 1992-93 squad the one that dominated the whole Big South season and got knocked off by Winthrop in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament? My freshman year was 1993-94 when we dominated Big South play and lost to Liberty in the semifinals. We have a few of these years sprinkled in with many other mediorce and bad ones. Hopefully, we can exorcise those demons this year.

I would definitely agree there is a lot of room for optimism. Let's enjoy the ride from day one, and hopefully we can get where we need to go.

Exactly, DOMINANT in regular season behind Devon Boyd & Scooter Alexander, but couldn't BUY a rebound from Matt Campbell or Larry Brown against lowly Winthrop - the very 1st failure of many in post-season play to come..

  6. I hope our fitness coaches are on top of their game. That and a little luck; because an injury, esp a key one, can potentially damage our chances for a successfull season as you'all have defined above..

But I'm optimistic for our chances. How can you not be? I'm more optimistic in '22-'23 than I was with Truax's '92-'93 squad. We've just about all the pieces in place for a stellar run, and finally get the monkey off our back.

Just steady focus.. Keep the eyes on the prize - Black & Gold !

  7. My most memorable game was where we hosted the Blue Jay's in '91, despite that we lost it 9-12. Itz most memorable because with the game starting and a long line of fans still waiting to get in, Towson ticket vendors.. ran  out  of  tickets!! So myself and about 10 other guys walked counterclockwise around from the ticket windows 180° to the north side of the stadium. There we climbed the 8' chain link fence and dropped inside the (then) undeveloped area of the stadium. We had to ford around thru stickerbushes to find spots where we could see most of the field. Towson security came, but they didn't bother most of us.

Was it Glenn Smith's or Rob Shek's shot that if it was a quarter of an inch lower and goes in instead of denting the crossbar against North Carolina we would have won the national championship in 1991 and no one can convince me otherwise.

I didn't go to game, but listened on radio. As I recall, we were bombed early on in the game such that we were trailing something like 3-10 @ halftime. But we were closing in on them in the 2nd half. Just ran out of time and luck, bowing 13-18 I think..

And absolutely - loss of defensive captain Beernink caused us an untimely close D reshuffling.

  9. I'm not posting much last few years, but still avidly follow the teams via this site. Glad to see W Soccer doing well, and spectacular success of Volleyball this year to date!.. Wish MLax would snap outta their funk. Everyone knows that was a keystone sport for the school in bygone seasons, the last of which was Spring 2017.

  10. After braving COVID to come watch the JMU game and the completion of the UDel "slippery floor game", this team had me convinced they were invincible. I think it was Chris D who said, ".. they're locked in a zone..". The level of play in those 58mins was frankly mind-blowing - the likes of which I've never seen since I began following Tiger MBb in '89-'90!! But then a 6 day layoff before Northeastern, and Ugh; a repulsive squeaker we were lucky to emerge with a W from, only to hot a blue and yellow wall!!

Since those wonderful teams of '90 - '96, there's only been 3-4 other decent teams that looked like they might've rekindled the flames of "the Special K's & Scooter, of Lee & Lightning, of Blalock & Boyd. Namely, the team where PG Brian Allen was a senior, the better of the two Gary Neal teams, the "Benimon Gang", and then this year..

I can't wait much longer. Another 5-8 year gap, and I may be watching Tiger hoops from the next world. It's like an old record player where one of the groves in the record is bad, and the same 2-seconds repeat over & over; itz like "Ground Hog Day" - how appropriate given Bill Murray sat in the Towson Center 15+/- years back.. Will somebody please, PLEASE fix my basketball team??!!!

  11. It's been such a LONG time since we've had this level of excitement for Towson MBb! I can hardly believe the way this 2021-22 team is playing, winging the ball around like I've never seen at Towson! No more being orientated on solo offensive efforts - FINALLY we have a team that anticipates the ball, that can pass and catch and shoot unselfishly, and with a near telepathic coördination! In the last 5 games, itz like watching men against boys. Down by 8, they scored 20 points more than UDel in 18.5 mins. I cannot applaud the team and Skerry & staff loudly or long enough!

  12. Sheesh - glad 2B focused on MBb! Aside from a few exceptions, Nads & company don't seem 2B recruiting the quality people as was once the case 5-6 years or more ago.. I still have faith in Nadelen, but not sure about the new guy, ie with the changeover from the previous offensive coach a few years back🤔..

Not saying best team. That's only if they win, get the 14th seed and shock the world or at least lose by single digits.

Now that I'm looking at the numbers of the 2012-13 team, the numbers are a lot closer than I thought. That team shot 35.8% from three-point. Defensive numbers were similar and rebounding numbers were slightly down. The CAA was the same, though probably slightly down now. (currently 12 in RPI). That team fell to W&M in the semifinals in Baltimore on 2014.

    Terry Nolan=Ralph Guthrie

    Jerrelle Benimon=Cam Holden

    Mike Burwell =Nick Timberlake?

    Marcus Damas=Antonio Rizzuto

    Charles Thompson=T.J. Parker-Rivera

    Jason Gibson=Four McGlynn.

Walter Foster, John Davis and Guthrie weren't much of a bench. It was really all Guthrie since the other two played less than 10 minutes per game. Gray, Nolan and Paar with some Hicks is obviously better. Benimon was the best big man we ever had. Holden is a smaller version at 6-5, 210, A better ballhandler and passer. Probably better defender, but couldn't block shots like JB (2.0).

Since I'm older, I would probably lean toward the 2013-14 team, but they didn't play on the road like this team. They were 9-8 on the road and 15-1 at home. Burwell was an outstanding defender, but couldn't shoot like Timberlake or Rizzuto. We also played the more traditional lineup while this team plays basically four guards.

Any thoughts? I don't want to compare ECC teams with this one. Just a completely different game now, a much weaker conference back then. But those were great teams that knew how to win the big one. Kurk Lee and Devin Boyd could play in any era.

Nolan much better w finesse and outside shooting than Guthrie; though Guthrie could drive to the hoop better, he was often outta control. Benimon over Holden ✓ Timberlake over Burwell, as Nick's D isn't bad and he's definitely better on O. Rizzuto can be streaky on O, & Damas (if I'm remembering correctly) was a good defender; very close, but I'd give edge to Rizzuto for his superior A game. CT vs TJ, both excell in RBs, but CT's offense + sm misc things definitely tops TJ. Gibby beats Four on O; I forget what McGlynn's D was like, but give edge to Gibson as he dishes better. Agree w you Matt, current bench both better & deeper✓...

Though 1990's Lee & Boyd + Valentine would cause 2022's guards serious trouble, 2022's forwards would cause even more trouble for the other 2 "Special K's" & esp Mike M. - MHO

  14. The Thompson & Nolan Show tonight!!!

Raucous crowd for 3,200+/-, they really got excited at times, especially with one particular slam dunk by Thompson. It was really good to watch a mask-less Holden for a change, and so glad he survived that lasso-like tackle but some Duke player; evidently an accident..
Defensively, I thought they really clamped down when needed, despite allowing a few wide open 3's. Gibby struggled some defensively. Gray didn't see much playing time, and had a quiet game. Excellent to get more PT for the Bench Bunch, and the crowd welcomed them onto the court w 45 seconds left! In some ways, we played like our mascot: we had the Dukes nailed down, but in a few instances let up off the gas. JMU would rally back but like a bored tiger who's chain gets rattled once too often, we'd wake up and go on a run. Some of the runs often included turning a defensive stop into an offensive success @ the other end..
At 22-7, this team is truly the best since the 1990 squad, even better I'd say; because MBb is at a higher level in general over the last 32 years, I'd say..

18 is the most this year against a real team. It is 1 behind the all time Skerry era record of 19, done twice. (we had 2 20 assist games in OT games). If anyone can name the opponent that we had the first 19 assist game, I would be shocked! Hint they are very good.

Game in Spring 1992 when Tigers destroyed Buffalo?
