  2. It's that time again when there's little news before July and everyone likes lists (ok, some do). Let's start with my version of the top 10 point guards at Towson (Division I-only). Based on points per game, shooting %, assists, defense, and accolades. I know some guys were combo guards (Scooter Alexander to name one), but I'll stick with more full-time point guards. 1)Devin Boyd (1988-93). Nobody is remotely close. Avg. 17.2 ppg for his career, 3.8apg, 2.3spg. All-time leader in points, assists, and steals. TU HOF. ECC Player of the Year in 1990-91. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/devin-boyd-1.html 2)Marty Johnson (1986-88). Transfer from Richmond. Avg. 4.2 apg and 5.0apg in both seasons. Avg. 16.1ppg in two seasons and shot around 45%. Ranked second in the nation in steals per game with 4.1 in 1987-88. All-time leader in assists per game at 4.6. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/marty-johnson-2.html 3)Bill Leonard (1983-87). Played point most of his career until Marty Johnson transferred in. Avg. 13pg, 2.0 spg, and 3.2 apg. Shot 46% from the field. Three-point shot not added until his final season. TU HOF. 4)Jamaal Gilchrist (2002-04). Transfer from Texas A&M. I know he was more a combo guard his second season with Mike Green at the point. Avg. 11.4 points, 1.5 spg, 3.4 TPG, and 3.3 assists in two seasons at Towson. Shot 36% from 3-point range. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jamaal-gilchrist-1.html 5)Mike Green (2003-05). What might have been. Wound up transferring to Butler and became an All-American. Avg. 10.2 ppg, 4.9apg, 4.4rpg and 1.7spg as a freshman. Made the All-Freshman team and then was moved to shooting guard the following season. Shot 38% from three-point range, but just 36% overall in his second season. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/mike-green-2.html 6)Jason Gibson (2019-current). More of a shooting guard, but has played mainly the point in three seasons. A 39% three-point shooter in his career. Avg. 9.2ppg and 2.2 apg. Just 1.4 turnovers per game. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jason-gibson-1.html 7)Michael Keyes (1993-97). Avg. 7.9ppg, 1.3spg and 3.2apg. Shot 45% from the floor and 37% from 3-point range. Shot over 40% from three-point range in his first two seasons. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/bill-leonard-1.html 8)Jerome Hairston (2012-14). Another player who would have been listed a lot higher had he lasted more than one season and five games. Avg. 9.9ppg and 2.5apg as a freshman with 2.6 TPG. At 6-3, 190, had the size to be a difference-maker. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jerome-hairston-1.html 9)Damon Cason (1995-2000). Injuries limited him early on. Only averaged 5.3ppg for his career, but as a 5th-year senior in 1999-2000, he averaged 8.8 points, 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals on 38% from 3-point range. His numbers went up when Marlin Wise (10 games) was ruled out for the season. He and Wise were teammates here and at Southern HS. Wise was the better athlete and both were good passers. But you had to wonder how his career would have unfolded had they just handed him the keys almost from the jump. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/damon-cason-1.html 10)Brian Allen (1999-03). Was considering Brian Starr here, because Brian Allen's turnover numbers are poor. In his junior year, he averaged 5.4 turnovers per game, but also averaged 5.3 assists that same season. Avg. 8.1ppg and shot 36% from three-point range, but shot just 32% his last two seasons. Talented player, who was inconsistent. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/brian-allen-1.html

    Top 10 small forwards

Once again, Division I-only. There were some tremendous D2 guys that played for Vince Angotti that are HOFers including the late Bobby Washington, Pat McKinley, etc. 1)Chuck Lightening (1989-92). Three-year player. Avg. 14.3ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.5spg on 47% shooting. Avg. 16.1ppg and 6.3rpg in his junior season and 18.6ppg in his senior season earning All-ECC twice. Scored 26 points in loss to Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament in 1991. Earned CBS Player of the Game. Big-time finisher. Clutch performer in big games. HOFer. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/chuck-lightening-1.html 2)Ralph Biggs (1994-98). Another HOFer. At 6-6, 160 pounds, did not have the frame of Lightening (6-5, 215), but was a great leaper and very good shooter. Should have played more early on. Came off the bench in his first two seasons, which explains why he only averaged 12.5ppg for his career. Avg. over 18ppg his last two seasons and shot 53.4% for his career. Also shot 40% from three-point range. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/ralph-biggs-1.html 3)Brian Fobbs (2018-20). Juco transfer who had an excellent two seasons. Powerful lefty who could get to the line. Avg. 16.9ppg and 5.4 RPG. Had a bit better junior season when he shot 45% from the floor and 37% from beyond the arc. His three-point shooting went down a bit in his senior season (34%). Over 80% FT shooter. Second-team All-CAA player twice. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/brian-fobbs-1.html 4)Kelly Williamson (1988-90). Xavier transfer who averaged 10.8ppg and 5.3rpg. Smooth lefty who shot 46% from the field. Helped win the ECC title in 1990. Could have scored more, but was playing with Kurk Lee and Devin Boyd, so he was the third option. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/kelly-williamson-1.html 5)Sam Sutton (2000-02). Talented and athletic transfer from St. Francis (PA). York native who was one of the best defensive wings to ever play at Towson. Avg. 13.1, 1.6spg and 6.2 rebounds in two seasons. Team took some lumps back then in first season in CAA, but Sutton was one of the few bright spots. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/sam-sutton-1.html 6)Marcus Damas (2011-14). Juco transfer and long defender at 6-7. Avg. 11.6ppg and 5.2 RPG on 40% shooting. Was a 35% three-point shooter his senior season. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/marcus-damas-1.html 7)Mike Morsell (2014-18). Wing with good length and solid defender. Avg. 11.7ppg and 3.4rpg on 43% shoot. Averaged 14ppg on 35% three-point shooting in his senior season. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/mike-morsell-1.html 8)Michael Fink (1984-88). Wing from the mid-80s, who averaged 10.4ppg who shot 44% from the field and 80% from the line. Good passer as well (2.7apg). Avg. 13.4ppg in his senior season. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/michael-fink-2.html 9)Mark Cooley (1979-83). Avg 9.1ppg but in his senior season, averaged 18.1ppg and 5.8rpg. Shot 45% from the field for his career. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/mark-cooley-1.html 10)Rashawn Polk (2009-11). Powerfully-built wing. Avg. 10.4ppg, 1.5spg, and shot 35% from long range in two seasons. Juco transfer. (Last spot was between Polk, Jarrell Smith and Jonathan Pease.)

Top 10 point guards of all time

One of the many what ifs stories of Towson basketball along with Frank Mason and others, but this was more tragic.

Troy was ok for a sec but at least Brian Allen lasted the entire four years.

Top 10 point guards of all time

I considered CC, but his offense was not good. Poor three point shooter. Good defender but how that team didn’t have a winning record is perplexing to this day considering they had Gary Neal.

    General MBB thread 2021-22

Ok, so home is Albany, Navy, Coppin State. No UMBC or Morgan. They won't play us. Morgan and Loyola want to be paid. That's not our philosophy. Road: Clemson, UNCG, LIU, Penn. Also Savannah Tournament. Working on a few more with some pretty good teams, but most of the big boys on the East Coast won't play us.
